Ahhh... good to know we have such noble, deep thinkers out there. Just be careful to not fall off that steed of yours. Looks to me like it might be a pretty long fall.

Yes,Andy Griffith and Leave It To Beaver are "deep thinkers" shows. Try again Skippy...........................................

Like I said,it's not too much to expect Hollywood to actually put on shows like those that have something of value in them. But you're too busy reaching for something else. Go for it........

I just expect more from those making the shows. There's nothing wrong with expecting Hollytwood to do a decent job of putting something with some type of message, lesson or moral to the story in a funny and entertaining way. They did it for decades very successfully. But as long as we keep accepting less than that, they'll keep airing it.

Simon's the reason I watch.

As for King of Queens, only watched it a couple times, and frankly, I thought it was already off air.

And someone mentioned Roseanne...I loved that show.

Hehe... the only thing I reach for is the remote (usually to hit the "OFF" button).

Of course there's nothing wrong with that. However, get 100 people into a room and ask them what they think "good programming" consists of, and you'll probably get at least 50 different answers. King of Queens has been on since, what, 2001 or something? Obviously, SOMEBODY liked the show. That's why I said one person's trash is another's escape. What do I care if it stays or goes? I didn't watch the show.

You, on the otherhand, felt it necessary to come in here on your soapbox whining about there being no strong male/father figures on sitcoms, how TV has gone to hell and how the entertainment industry makes fun of the "very people who pay the majority of the bills in this country." I just thought it was funny that somebody would get so wound up over the state of television in America. That's all. That's cool though Ward... far be it from me to stand in the way of your quixotic quest to re-create Mayberry. Have at it!

Let's put it this way. It's a lot like voting has been for some time now.....................you choose the lesser of the evils.

Why should I get wound up? I have a remote control and use it. But mediocrity is the choice because there is no other.

You can have great entertainment with a sound message anywhere. If people choose to settle for less, they have that choice.

But stating the facts of how entertainment has went downhill on our nightly TV's isn't standing on a soapbox. It's stating the truth. Sorry you can't seem to tell the difference.

Yes, I am sad to see this show go. It's funny as hell and one of my all-time favorites.

Pit, you're so full of it, I'm stepping in it all the way over here on the west coast. Give it a rest. It's freakin' sitcom.

Oh give me a break. It's people like you who think video games, and movies are the root of all problems. It is only a show man. I am sure there are Full House, and Family Matters re-runs for you to watch.

And last I checked, the character kevin James plays is not even a father.

And the character he plays isn't manly enough to be one either. Childless is best in some situations.

Wow, you got me.

I was trying to start a trend where people just used the term west coast to describe close to the west coast as well as right on the west coast, and you just ruined it.

You got me thinking. Since you were so quick to pick up on that and tear it apart, I decided to go back and re-read all of your posts in this thread.

Man, I was wrong. You were so right about everything you said.

Where I was once going down a windy road, I'm back on the straight and narrow.

Thanks for your help.

IMO, the problem isn't that there isn't strong role models on the sitcoms, it's that someone would look to sitcoms for role models in the first place.

Yeah,I guess kids watching dunces for dads night after night is a positive thing.

I'd say that's more of a problem if that describes their own Dad rather than a sitcom character.

It is you who is confused. You equate your OPINION with FACT which is a fallacy except in your own world. Nothing wrong with that EXCEPT when you arrogantly proclaim your OPINION to be some universal truth. THAT is what I was referring to as "standing on a soapbox." I don't care if your OPINION is that the entertainment industry is pumping out pure crap. I might even agree with that opinion. You stating that, however, doesn't not make it a FACT. You have one opinion among millions of opinions. That's all.

Sorry to burst your bubble there, but you are NOT the grand arbiter of "truth" that you seem to think you are. Get over yourself.

It was for YEARS, and there are still ding bat women on TV (New Adventures of Old Christine comes to mind). Most shows, IMO, are pretty even with men and women being dumb...look at Friends, for example. Every one of 'em were dumbasses. Same with Raymond.

I don't think people WANT Ward Cleaver any longer...how incredibly boring that would be. "Hi, Honey, I'm home." "Great Darling, tell me about your day while I serve you dinner."

I guess I just don't see how either sex looking stupid on a television show reflects the rest of us. Most people understand that it's supposed to be a comedy.

Well,it USED to be "pretty even" on TV. But not anymore.

You had Ralph Cramden. You had Dagwood.

And if you think Archie was the brilliant one while Edith was the stupid one,you obviously didn't watch the show. Stupidity was fairly evenly distributed between the two.

Point being, there was some type of balance there. Not anymore and that's the entire point. Although obviously it seems to be escaping some.

I don't think anybody has suggested that TV have subserviant, stay at home moms. The point was that you don't have to make EVERY man on sitcoms some bumbling moron. But I guess that point has seemed to have been lost by what others wish to make out of it.

But you'll have that from time to time...................

Well, given that I don't watch sitcoms these days, I can't debate what's currently happening. So, I'll leave that to those that are in the know.

Edith and Archie were BOTH idiots. Trust me.

Watch out...if the women around here happen to agree with one another we can get accused of being a coven against men.

What's funny about this is, a) the women around here rarely agree with one another, and b) the men agree on things all the time but don't get accused of forming a hater's club. You HAVE to love double standards.
