I like the thing about it having a glass roof.. outdoor atmosphere but it stays inside...

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Vikings will have a fixed roof and moveable front windows on their new stadium.

Designer Bryan Trubey of Dallas-based HKS Architects presented images of the $975 million project to a crowd of fans, public officials and members of the Vikings organization Monday night. The event took place at the Guthrie Theater, a few blocks from where the stadium will be built in downtown Minneapolis.

It will replace the 31-year-old Metrodome, which the Vikings will vacate after the 2013 season. They'll play outside at the University of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium for two years while the new venue is under construction.

The steeply pitched, translucent roof will let natural light stream in, making the covered, glass-centric stadium seem more like it's outside.

Looks like it's designed to withstand snow well too..

I really like that design a lot.

What part of "No biggie We play there Sept 22" did you not understand sparky? Let me explain for you Einstein.. We play them in September.. therefore the weather will be nice as opposed to December..

They play outdoors.. UNTIL their stadium is built.. in MINNESOTA <~~ freakin cold in December.

Geesh.

Could that have been a *slight* overreaction?

The way I read your post, it could have meant that you thought the stadium was going to be in place this year, though I can see, after you pointed it out, how it could also mean the way you intended.

My apologies for thinking you were saying that you could road trip to see the new stadium this year.... The 9 insults are pretty funny for one little misunderstanding.

Heh, I took his post the same way you did, and was going to post informing him of the same information, presuming he was not aware of it. Glad I didn't now.

that's a sweeet design.

We should go there

How did they get all those people there if it isn't built yet.... seems kind of existential

Yup, we have some cheap cookie cutter design due to how fast we had to build it. I'll say what I said when the "Dome" thread was up. We should build a new stadium, extend the "Sin" tax, build it somewhere down town, spend the next 6/7 years planning, funding and building it and in 2019/2020 open it. By then CBS will be 20yo and a new Stadium isn't all too crazy of an Idea. While the new stadium is being built they can play at CBS so the city doesn't lose out on that revenue.

Make it with a retractable roof and lets try to bring in a Superbowl, Final Four, Wrestlemania and what ever else you can lure in to make the city extra money in the Browns offseason.

But too many "traditionalists" need to have it on the lake and an open air stadium.

I think that this is similar to what Haslam and the Browns had in mind when he talked about adding a dome to the stadium. They could add a structure like this around the current stadium without dismantling what is already in place.

I like the idea of having a transparent dome. It would be unique. We would still have the appearance of the weather without the temperature and wind. Imagine that thing after a Nov/Dec snowfall? We'd nickname it the Globe.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Yeah, but wasn't' there recent talk of putting some kinda dome on First Energy?

Of course, any talk of that I suspect would be put on hold until Jimmys issues are put to rest.

I love the idea of a transparent or retractable roof stadium in the downtown area, it would be really cool.

I wonder if there is any way to build a stadium like Seattle has with a roof. I really dig how the crowd seems right on top of the field in that stadium.

Honestly, I will refuse even free tickets to games in December. Let's see, we're usually in double digit losses, it's 10 degrees, the wind shill is like -15.

No thanks.

But if we had a dome, I would not refuse free tickets even to what will certainly be a loss. At least I could drink my beer without it freezing before I finish it.

Sure there was talk, but it is just that until the Mayor and a few other stuffed shirts show up with shovels to have a photo-op.

Haslams troubles don't factor at all. He isn't going to be the guy paying for it. The city owns the stadium. If a dome is put over it, it is up to the city and local citizens to see that through.

Haslam pays rent to play there, even if it is a small rent.

If you rented a aparment or house, would you pay 20K to have the carpet pulled and a hardwood laminate installed?

Why the heck would he do that?

He might become a lead voice on the matter and make the appeal to the citizens and local business community, selling the benefits above and beyond the Browns, which could be many. Other than football, you can't use the place a minimum of 5 months a year, and probably more like 6-7 months.

Not many events can be held in the rain or slop, or even the potential and be something easy to sell. Big events need some guarantee things aren't going to be wet, or the temps aren't going to be extreme either way.

vibrating seats? Remind me to take a date to a Falcon game.

in all honesty, what a fabulous facility. And once again I'm reminded that we have the WORST place to view a football game.

At least you didn't make yourself look like an old jerk with a childish temper with your reply.

About the new stadium in Minnesota, I love it. THAT is some architecture I hope to see with more stadiums in the future. I don't know why these stadium designers think everything has to be a bowl or square shape.

I wouldn't care if I had to bring my own lawn chair if it meant we were going to be a Super Bowl contender every year.

Cleveland should put in a sportsbar so you have someplace to go during the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters to watch a real game.

It is time that they got a new stadium. As the Vikings Metrodome it will be the last year in 2013, to play as the two years prior to the 2016 new stadium opening, they will play somewhere else. But forget where they are playing now.
