Dawgs:
I'm banging this one out because I just (officially) welcomed a new-ish poster to the boards. "Pastor Marc" is his name- and he came here in the recent exodus from the official site.
It got me to thinking about how I found myself here- and why.
Sooooo... as a gesture of welcome and goodwill to all the "pups" who have recently arrived at Our Site, I thought it would be kinda cool to tell the story of how we became members of the Dawgtalkers Community.
In that way, we could each share our own personal connection with the site, take a moment to reminisce about our early days here... and give our 'new arrivals' a chance to see how each of us (in our own time) became "Hounds In The Pound."
This is the place to tell your story about "The Early Days." It might:
1. serve to 'flesh out' the backstory to your connection to all of us 2. give you a chance to 'spin a very cool tale' of personal (web-based) connections, taking on a new experience, and establishing oneself in a new community. 3. give our Newbz a forum of "equal footing" with some of the Olde Guard who have been here since The Earliest Days.
______________________
What say ye, My Dawgs?
Shall we tell our stories here.... for folks like Pastor Marc and others to get to know us a bit better?
I'm all about seeing "people connections"... and I can't think of a better way to do it (in this message board format) than this.
Who's game for this little experiment?
best to you all, Clem

I was a Dawg Talk refugee. I was a member of the original Dawg Talk board since just before 9-11-2001. Actually I read the boards for a fair amount of time before I ever posted. I remember back when the original board changed over to "Browns Chat" ... and there was going to be this grand and glorious contest to choose a new name ...... that never happened ...... along with some other changes that were discussed ... and never came to pass. I was quite happy to wind up here as an alternative. I hung around the Browns Chat board for a while, but less and less as time went by. I wound up only posting there a handful of times. That's it ... unless you want the whole painful YTown life story.

Ditto here. I came here when they changed the format on the old board.

Here's my story. I was a Dawg Talk refugee as well. I joined the board before the 2001 draft and I was born on the campus of K-State. There was a certain Quincy Morgan who was coming off a 200+ yard game in the snow against Tennessee in their bowl game and I hoped the Browns would take him. I have been a club season ticket holder since the reboot (which makes me very very special now that there are no PSLs) and I moved to Hawaii in 2003. I still own the seats. My family uses them now except for home and home 10 day trips that I can come back to see everybody. Without this board I don't know what I'd do. Other than be more productive and less inclined to spend any time on this god forsaken franchise. And I've actually built some friendships here over the past dozen years. Some who I've met, some who I look forward to meeting. Aloha!

In the 90's I belonged to the Prodigy message boards which had a very active Browns forum. It started going downhill at the time of the move, and in 2001, Prodigy was taken over by Yahoo and I migrated over to the original Dawgtalkers. When that went down, I came here because I loved this format for a message board.....and all of the people I enjoyed interacting with came over here also. I can't thank Purp enough for creating this place.

Well, let's see. First the earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes. I couldn't believe it.

Well, living in Florida my browns news is limited, so I began checking clevelandbrowns.com for news (2000ish) and information and stumbled on the forums. I began reading the forums as they contained many reposted news stories from the local papers and many conversations on topics i just couldn't get down here. I eventually joined and began posting. When they decide to change the format to the Browns Chat format, and Ppl created this one, I created a profile here (Member #9 ), also registered with the new Browns Chat. hated the new format so over a very short period of time, I quit visiting BC, and just focused here.

Even though I have less than 1,000 posts I have the same background as most other vets on this site. I joined the original DT message board back in 2001 (remember the Browns even used to have the Dawg Talk Day for us during training camp? That was the highlight of my Browns year). After that site was revamped I heard a rumor about this new site with the same format ... and I immediately moved over here for good. I do post on some other Browns websites, but this still is my favorite. Some have gotten to know me, but admittedly I don't post as much as I always want to. I enjoy reading and have grown to like everyone here.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

ClevelandBrowns.com no longer has a message board.
I ended up over here after they revamped the original dawgtalk board on clevelandbrowns.com. The new format sucked.

There are a lot of us around from the DT days. I registered on DT back in August of 2001 and moved here to DTers when the Browns changed the forum to the "new and improved" Browns Chat.

Not really sure
I was on the original DT board way back in the beginning. Probably 99 or so.
I enjoyed arguing with Jules, Diam, Shep, CoachB, and who knows who else, that I have never completely left.

If you were arguing with coachB, then you surely don't know who you were arguing with. It could have been anyone.

LIke so many on here, I was on the other board based on the Browns main site. When it changed in I think September 2006 I didn't like what I saw. I didn't' care for the feel and texture of the site. I didn't like that it seemed like in a matter of days, over 6000 new members joined and they didn't know the history of the site.
So I think one of the guys from here told me about this site and over I came.
Been here ever since. I think I went back to the main site maybe a couple of handful of times since. Still didn't like it.

That's pretty much my story too. I don't remember for sure, but I think michelle told me about this site at the time.

I joined DT back when it was the official site on the very day that Butch Davis resigned. I was a senior in college. I was going through the Browns site as I found out that he resigned to read all the articles and I stumbled on the old forum. I loved all the football talk and the rapid posting of Browns news articles. I quickly became addicted. I had the site saved in my favorites, so I was still able to access it even after the Browns site changed over to Browns Chat. I think there was a week or two where the original dawgtalk site just existed in some sort of limbo and resembled a ghost town, but you'd still see the occasional post. Then I happened to chance upon a new thread created in Ghost Town Dawgtalk. It was a link to Dawgtalkers. I clicked on it, and originally thought that I had just reopened DT. But then I realized I wasn't a member and there was a flurry of new posts. I realized the site was a replica and I became real excited. I remember the first post I read was from OverToad. It was a long-winded post (of course) congratulating Purp on creating the new site. I also noticed he took advantage of the fact profanity had not yet been banned and there were no Refs in existence yet. I thought we were going to have a free-for-all, but alas... I'm real happy this site was built as I love the format, the discussions, and almost all the posters here. Thanks Purp!

This is kind of how I remember it (memory isn't what it used to be ). The only difference in my case was that I joined the original DT later than most and wasn't there too long before it shut down and Purp started this site. Been here ever since.

I was an original DTer and when this site got up and running (and nobody told me) I noticed a lot of the people I knew started disappearing and the new format at the official website wasn't nearly as good... I was left to languish there for a while until somebody came and saved me and let me know about this place...

Hard to remember what brought me here. I registered on the old DT board sometime in early 2002. I remember by September 2006 I had almost reached 1000 posts, and I was excited to get my "Dawg Talker" status. And then they told me they were shutting it down. One of the administrators promoted me to Dawg Talker on the last day. Then I registered here and have been climbing that hill again now for seven years. LOL. Well, life does get in the way, and I sometimes disappear from here for six months at a time, but I always come back, and seeing the old names and reading the familiar posts makes me feel.... happy. This is the oldest and most consistent community I've been a part of. Not sure if that's sad or not, but I don't think so.

I was around the original DawgTalk. I believe I joined around 2002. Went to Browns Chat when they switched over. Then someone -- I forget who PM'd me over there and told me about this site being started up. Haven't looked back since So figure out who PM'd me over there and yell at them for me being around!

I'm also one of the refugees from the old DT board. I posted a lot back then (HOF but since I started a job 8+ years ago I post a lot less. I'm not even sure how many posts I have on this board (i'll see when I post this) but I still love to come here and at least browse. I've met some of the folks from the board, especially Columbus area folks. Hell, SaintDawg and I knew each other from the board for probably 3 years before we figured out that his kids were my neighbors!

Wow, that was quick, and must have been quite the surprise. Most kids take 9 months or so to finish cooking.

Well we tried to not let you know, but somehow you found out anyway. lol Good thing that PPE was able to get rid of all of all of the threads where we made fun of you before you made your way over.

I'm #26 - it's nothing to do with being cool. Actually, quite the opposite; us guys with early numbers were the uncool guys who had nothing better to do on a Saturday night in September of 2006 than hang around waiting for the old DT to go dark. That's when I found out about new DT, reading PPE and (I think) FloridaFan talking about message board set up, and UBB vs not-UBB. PPE set this MB pretty quickly, so my time at Brownschat was mercifully short.
