http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000...strike-contractIn a puzzling move out of Cleveland, Brandon Jackson is back with the Browns. NFL.com's Albert Breer reported Thursday that the running back agreed to a one-year contract to return to the Browns for a third straight season. Jackson inked a two-year, $4.5 million contract with the team in 2011, but missed the entire season with a turf toe injury. He played in only two games last season, compiling just 54 yards on eight carries. It's a baffling acquisition after the Browns traded for Dion Lewis in April and already house Montario Hardesty and Chris Ogbonnaya. Chalk this up as a depth move. Coach Rob Chudzinski has assured starter Trent Richardson that he'll carry the ball all day long for the Browns. With Richardson a candidate to see as many carries as any runner in the AFC, Jackson is no guarantee to make this roster -- or any other.

Kind of a strange move, but I do like Jackson. He can run, block, and catch. I wonder if they might want to look at him in an H-Back/FB type role?

Only puzzling if the contract was guaranteed.
We got a lot of youth even if we feel OGB n Hardesty are veterans really they don't know that much. Lewis he's a far shot to make the team. Tons of talent just has some problems possibly Jackson can help? Lots of UDFA's
We signed him to the 80 roster he will be in all the camps all the drills a good veteran to help the youth. If he makes the final roster God bless him... if not it will probably mean his presence was still felt in elevating a rookie. Also there is a possibility that we have a trade in the works??? Possibly somebody wants Hardesty??? Who knows if this is part of a series of transactions...or just that savvy veteran here for the Yutes.

With Oby, Rouse and Hardesty - I thought the RB spot was a lil crowded as-is for that number two role.

I like the signing. Felt bad for him because of the injuries and thought he was going to be a productive player for us.
Will provide good competition for Hardesty and Oby.
May the best guy win.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Odd I guess, but at this time of the year, signings such as this probably mean nothing..
Could be that they wanted to keep him but the asking price was too high.. since nobody showed interest, maybe the price dropped.

bottom line with the whole roster is that no one knows what we have because nutcase heckert made the coaches play who he wanted. the new FO/coaching is giving everyone a chance and are going to keep the best players.

We sure are stocking up on RBs. It seems like we may want to trade one of them, but man, RBs are so easy to come by. Why would anyone want to trade for one of our RBs, unless it was TRich?

isn't that. no one knows what we have. its like I said. nutcase heckert making poor shumer start who he wanted. after 3 year we have no idea of what we have or don't have. at least this FO and coaching staff know that and are going to let them fight it out in a fair way.

(this is sincere, not sarcasm.) Yaaayy! Now they can bring back all the runningbacks from last year. And have some continuity. I'm pretty sure the hopefuls they brought in as udfa's and such are a step below Jackson. Even though, he hasn't seen the field much, I think this guy, provides more of a threat, to be an every down back, than the smaller in stature backs. And in the event of a season ending injury to one of the other backs, this guy provides welcome stability.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Yea..I'm in that line of thinking and that like a previous poster said Hardesty might have a suitor or even the new brain trust feels he might not make the team. Who knows.....somebody ain't gonna make it.

It is clear that our new FO doesn't trust Hardesty one bit. I'm almost shocked by how many new bodies we've brought in when most of us assumed RB was one position where we were set. This is an odd signing to me, but I also know Norv LOVES him some RB depth. He will keep 4 RBs this year.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

If I were a team desperate for a #1 RB I'd consider trading for Hardesty. He looked a lot better than an injured TRich last season.
Personally I like BJax over Oggy if he can stay healthy.

I could see us keep 4 or 5 RB this year .... maybe even without a traditional FB.
Brandon Jackson can catch, block, and run very well. So can Trent and Ogi. Hardesty is not the receiver the other 3 are .... so who knows? Maybe if they get a chance to add a 2014 draft pick for Hardesty, they might. I don't expect anyone to give up much for a RB though. They generally just don't have huge trade value unless they are a huge name. (like if Adrian Peterson hit the trade market)

I think we'll keep 4 backs this year plus whatever they decide to do at FB. I see them keeping TRich - starter, Hardesty - top backup, Lewis - change of pace / returner, and then either Oby or Jackson as the 3rd string back.

I don't know how you got that out of it.....no, I don't think he is.
As somepne else said, possibly Hardesty is tradable, and as another said, I'd rather have Jackson over Oggie.
I like keeping a lot of backs deep in to camp. If another team suffers a loss at RB, we might be able to call them up to let them know we would be willing to help them out.
Maybe it's Jackson. He is a proven player who we might be able to trade in a few months.

Anyway, like I said, I don't understand bringing him back but it doesn't bother me at this time of year anyway. like you, I want to see as many guys as I can this time of year. You never know who's gonna get injured and we need a guy in a hurry that can come up to speed fast.
So yeah, I'm with you on that.

In that case, why ask him if he was suggesting we might be looking to trade TRich when it was clear he was?

Trent: No way he is a consideration for a trade. This regime can care less what we gave in investments for him to justify. All they look at is him here...HE IS A FEAKING STUD and so fits this new O.
All we can look at is roles.
1. Starter #1 back...no denying who that is. 2. Backup #2 back...to pick up the slack if #1 gets hurt or needs a rest...that would be Hardesty 3. 3rd down back...usually scat back running routes but also have ability to pass block.
Most teams don't go past that unless ST is involved.
FB...I personally don't think we will utilize one much...but need one to give an I-formation look from now n then. Marecic needs to become a stud on ST.
The one RB position set is Trent: End of story.
Hardesty, Ogb, Lewis, Rouse, Jackson must vie for those other two roles.
Hardesty was not used that much with Trent here last season n that was him (Trent) coming off a knee injury. So if a combo of Backup to Trent n 3rd down back can be made great. That would leave the best kid in the pass catching game to stay.
Love to see Hardesty do some kick off duties if he stays. But I would assume the combo of somebody giving up a 4-6 round pick for him n his expendable value here that would have to be Hardesty...plus isn't this his last contract year? If they know they won't pursue him...might as well get anything you can for him. Just thinking out loud.

Ahhh....reading comprehension.
Did you read the part that prefaced it:
Quote:

I was NOT suggesting that TRich was on the trading block. I was saying that it's hard to trade RBs because there are always good RBs available.

I still contend that Hardesty looked better than Richardson last season. Knee, Ribs, whatever. Hardesty burst through the holes and had better vision.
I certainly think there would be market for him. What that is, I dunno.

Have we totally overlooked and forgotten the Marecic? Fear this might involve him or a trade.

I know you were mostly joking but FB has no trade value let alone one who was benched.
Marecic will have to earn his spot on the roster. His best way is to be a stud on ST. I see us actually moving more to 2 TE offense rather than FB. TE is a big piece of a Zone blocking O n the kid we got from CGO Davis is an excellent blocker. Cameron is more of a threat in the pass game than marecic or any FB for that matter.
I'm sure we want to carry ONE FB on the roster (not 100% necessary) to go into an I formation from time to time as a different look. But Marecic has to win his roster spot on ST...if he cannot stud out there. We can always cut him and pick up one of many that will be available after Turk Day.
