Barroom convo from last night's happy hour.. what the best month of the year for sports... we were torn between May and October.

May has Baseball, NBA playoffs, NHL playoffs, the Triple Crown, Indy 500

October has World Series, College and Pro Football, NHL

and I'm prolly forgetting a few things.. whats your opinion? Is there a better month?

December is college bowl season, college basketball, the home stretch of the NFL regular season.

December is a good one, too.

What about September? Playoff races in baseball and opening day of NFL and some college home openers.

I'd have to go with May though, I'm a sucker for the Kentucky Derby and Indy 500.

This would be different for each person, but for me it has to be the fall. I love the College football Saturdays followed by NFL Sundays .. and the MLB is into the playoffs and WS. Also, basketball season is approaching for myself personally. So I'd say between October-November is my favorite.

Also, this is my SLOW time of the year. I don't care much for the regular season MLB or Indy or horse racing. I do like the NBA playoffs, but without the NFL going at all it becomes very slow.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

October. Baseball playoffs and Series. College football is in full swing. The Browns are playing and still a few weeks away from being mathematically eliminated. NASCAR Points Cup is winding down

January. I get my Sundays back and my optimism for next season begins anew.

I am unfamiliar with this feeling of optimism

If golf had a major in October that would seal the deal for me. For now I might have to go with April, with the Masters being the tie breaker.

As a Cleveland fan, the start of every season is far more fun and filled with optimism than the end.

I can't pick between these two. I also love the weather in either month. Hoodie weather.

You should try to find George Carlin's rules for what makes a sport! Language can get pretty rough but it was funny. He said of auto racing, 'Racing isn't a sport! Driving 500 miles in a circle doesn't impress me! It's the same 5 ********* rednecks that win all the time anyway!

It's been years since I heard it but that's pretty darn close.

I don't watch NASCAR but I respect what those guys do. The way the teams work together to map out how the driver will work the track, and the way the pit crew gets everything done in split seconds is incredible. I just don't think it's much of a spectator sport. Different strokes.

I literally cannot make it through a NASCAR race at home without falling asleep.

I thought I was the only one.

I went to see a race many, many, many years ago, (around 87 or 88?) in Michigan. Back then it was still called the Marlboro 500. I don't remember how my buddy got passes, but we had food tent passes, and pit passes, and all of the extras. We rented a van and paid a guy to be our designated driver. (Paid his share of the van rental, gas, and food) It was fun .... we got drunk and watched the race, went into the pits, it wasn't just sitting there watching the race. I do have to admit that standing by the fence on the straightaway was awesome. Those cars were already halfway through the corner before you could turn your head.

I actually had fun at the race.

Then I tried to watch one on TV. I fell asleep. It was so boring.

I guess it's one of those things I can only watch in person.

It's like hockey. I went to see a Penguins game in Pittsburgh once, and man was I stunned. There were more flat out gorgeous women at that game than at any sporting event I have ever been to. There is just something extremely hot about a really nicely dressed, totally hot woman yelling "Rip his (censored) head off and (censored) down his (censored) throat you (censored)" I guess it reminds me of most of my relationships. I guess that was the best part of going to the game. Well, that, and that the tickets were free.

I have tried to watch hockey on TV, and it's just not the same.

I can't deal with soccer under any circumstances. I would almost rather sit through a lecture on the Democrat politicians of the 1990s than watch a soccer game. lol

I have told people for years that a hockey game is the best date. Especially if the girl has never been to a game. It gets them going. It's not a very hard game to follow, less annoying rules like football and baseball. Similiar to basketball but with a better flow.

Some people have this huge vendetta against hockey. They get their panties in a bunch if someone even mentions it. "ZOMG I WISH THEY WOOD GO BAKC ON STRIKE!!@!!"

I took my wife to her first hockey game to see the Erie Otters back when they had Cory Pecker and were a really good team. We sat right on the glass near one of the corners. In the 1st period she was bored and thought it was lame. By the 3rd period she was swearing at the refs and threatening guys on the other team. Hockey is great in person.

It's an easier game to follow in person if you're new to the game. A lot going on away from the puck that for some reason, you can pick up when you're there.

Funny that it's very similar to playing the game. It's a huge mistake when you are playing to only focus on the puck and not what's around you. It's very easy to get mesmerized.

That's cool, you don't get it.....I won't make fun of your choices.....I like NASCAR races.

For me, a great way to spend a afternoon......be it nodding off here and there....same with PGA.....I love the game and play 4-5 days a week, but I also like the 1 hour snooze at some point while watching.....I miss Ken Venturi 's voice.
