Surprised this hasn't been posted as yet (or i missed it). All kicking off in the aftermath with right wing groups demonstrating and attacking mosques etc. Linky 'Lone wolf' terrorism arrives. The attack was unprecedented. A British soldier run down and beheaded in a London street in the middle of the afternoon. Britain has spent millions of pounds since the 2005 London Underground attacks to prepare against the threat of terrorism, yet here, in broad daylight, two men brandishing a meat cleaver and a butcher's knife, have shown how cheaply that veneer of security can be punctured. The barbarous horror of freelance jihad has reached the high street. The nation is in shock, but this has been security chiefs' greatest fear, an attack straight from the playbook of the new, ''lone-wolf'' brand of terrorism. In 2008, Parviz Khan, 37, of Birmingham, was sentenced to 14 years' jail for plotting to kidnap and behead a British soldier. In covert recordings he was heard making plans for the killing - and to film it, to ensure the terror message hit home in Britain. ''This was not only a plot to kill a soldier but a plot to undermine the morale of the British Army and inhibit recruitment,'' High Court judge Justice Richard Henriques said. Advertisement It is not known if Wednesday's attack was inspired by Khan's failure. Clearly, some elements have been ''improved'': why bother to film it? Just carry it out in broad daylight, and let the smartphone-carrying public do the rest. Newsrooms in London tied themselves in knots: they could not ignore the story but they were well aware that by putting a bloody-handed alleged terrorist on their front page or news bulletin, and by quoting his message in screaming headlines, they were doing exactly what he hoped for. This was an attack from the al-Qaeda handbook. The terrorist group's English-language magazine, Inspire, produced in the Arabian Peninsula, exhorts people to carry out ''lone wolf'' attacks. Articles and advertisements urged readers to use knives and run people down in vehicles, the Daily Mail reported. The first issue of the magazine contained an article ''How to build a bomb in the kitchen of your mom'', which was reportedly used by the Boston Marathon bombers. This switch to a ''self-starting'' philosophy has not been overlooked by counter-terrorism agencies. Last year, then MI5 director-general Sir Jonathan Evans said: ''I suspect that any problems we may have here will come from lone actors attracted to extremism and violence. In back rooms and in cars and on the streets of this country there is no shortage of individuals talking about wanting to mount terrorist attacks here.'' But one of the main problems for security forces is separating dangerous ''individuals of interest'' from noisy political agitators. Little of al-Qaeda or its communications network remains. In its place are radicalised individuals, families or small groups, armed with ideology, informed by the internet, and free to interpret these ''instructions'' however they wish. Since the July 7 London bombings in 2005, security forces have used electronic surveillance and border security to identify jihadists who travelled overseas for training. Only half of MI5's work involved plots with a Pakistan or Afghanistan dimension, said Sir Jonathan, with Yemen and Somalia the new priority areas. But much of the ''education'' and radicalisation now happens on home soil, or online. YouTube and other sites carry video sermons from radical clerics. One of the most-cited is Yemen preacher Anwar al-Awlaki - who was killed by a drone strike in 2011. The co-founder of Inspire advocated what some officials dubbed the ''just do it'' brand of terrorism, writing, ''Assassinations, bombings and acts of arson are all legitimate forms of revenge against a system that relishes the sacrilege of Islam.'' Awlaki's sermons are continually put on YouTube and other sites, as officials work to have them removed. In one video he advised, ''Don't consult with anybody in killing the Americans - fighting the devil doesn't require consultation.'' Roshonara Choudhry, 21, who was jailed for stabbing East Ham MP Stephen Timms with a kitchen knife in 2010, told police she had been radicalised by Awlaki ''explaining stories from the Koran and explaining about jihad''. ''If you go on YouTube there's a lot of his videos there,'' she told police. A lot of the radical material online mentions beheading, quoting a verse from the Koran on ''smiting the necks'' of unbelievers. British authorities have met to determine whether they need to brace for more attacks. But even if the latest murder was not part of a broader plot, it is unlikely these will be the last lone wolves to attempt acts of terror on British soil.

2 dudes stuck around to ambush the cops. Some of the footage is incredible really, the one dude getting filmed by a passer by, blood on his hands,holding a meat cleaver, little old lady walks right by him as he's ranting. He apologised to the women for having to witness what they did and at one point, another woman tried to get him to hand over the weapons. They attacked police when they arrived and both got shot by the armed response unit and they are currently in hospital under arrest. Other arrests have been made at various addresses as they go after the other folk probably involved in the planning of this. Quote:

haha i'd take the odd random knife killing over assault rifle spree killings every day of the week. 
Other reports on this one Purp is they run the dude over in a car first before going to work with the machetes and cleavers. Also read somewhere that one of them had some archaic rusty revolver. They were going down swinging man, they went after the police but were a little overmatched.

This has actually been something I've talked with friends about a lot lately.
I'm anti-gun control ... however ...
Gun control can and does work if you can control the guns.
For some countries, you see a lot of positive results.
As far as America ... gun control is pretty much useless. That's not blaming or praising America or gun control.
But, if you can shut the floodgates before the flood hits, control of any object or substance is doable.
Once the floodgates open ... it's a lost cause.
If you look at the history and circumstance of guns, drugs, etc. ... it pretty much shakes out that way.

England is participating in the same folley we are attempting here. They are letting people into their country without requiring them to become British. Even in this country, we are now allowing people in and not requiring them to become Americans.
The muslims in the UK want sharia courts, bans on alcohol, muslim only zones, etc, etc. If they miss their homes so much that they want their new country to be like home, they should go back home. This is occupation through infestation.

Those groups were neo-Nazis.. they weren't "right wing" in the sense that Sean Hannity is right wing or that I'm right wing... the neo-Nazis are as despised by most of the right wing as they are by anybody else.
Nice try in attempting to make the connection that somehow the "right wing" is responsible for this.

Serious question if there are any Muslims here.
Do they appear out thin air? Were they previous human souls?
Are there Muslim women who want to go to Heaven to be part of a haram with 71 other women to service a Shahid?

Oh hell, I don't know LOL But I've heard more than once the term 70 Virgins and Rivers of Honey is the reward for dying while killing the infidel.. so take that for what it's worth. (maybe it was 72, not sure)
As for where they come from or how they appear, I honestly don't know but is it much different than thinking that as a Catholic, you will die and pass through the pearly gates of heaven? I'm guessing it's that kinda thing.

Sorry but I disagree, at least for me personally... if the Black Panthers performed some heinous act then in writing about it I would state what the "black panthers" did, not what "liberals" did and then leave people on their own to figure out that I was only talking about one extremely radical part of that group...

Umm .. why not get back to the subject of lunatics killing and beheading soldiers . I honestly put Muslims and Christians in the exact same boat as there are zealots capable of twisting their holy scriptures on both sides. Not sure whether the slight against Muslims was intentional .

'Being capable' is one thing. What's happening is another.
I tend to agree with you that all religions are capable of being dangerous ... but the simple truth is, I would personally be afraid to mock or depict Muhammad. I wouldn't do it.
Not that I don't think I should. But I would have a legitimate fear of being killed.
Now, with Jesus...I don't have that same fear.
I think it's correct to point out that all religions are dangerous and capable of being used for nefarious ends.
But I don't think it's accurate to say 'well, they're all the same'. You can certainly go through history and even modern times and find Christians committing heinous acts in the name of their religion. But at the moment... that threat isn't nearly as high with other faiths, on a large scale.

Still, you have to admit that after distancing what are perceived as fringe elements of both sides of our political spectrum from their larger moderate bodies, it's an interesting decision to then pin this action of homicidal maniacs on a religion of hundreds of millions.

I'd argue it has more to do with poverty and anger than Islam, but we have to face the fact that there is a serious problem in the fringe Muslim community.

It wasn't selective, it was an arbitrary number to indicate that in modern times muslims kill a much greater number of people in the name of their religion than Christians do in the name of Jesus....which I thought was a counter argument to a point you were trying to make. Not if you douse their bodies in pigs blood first! I'm not going to try to find it while I'm on my phone but there's a true story about some guy in the Philippines that dealt with terrorists this way and then went like 50 years without any trouble.
