ATTENTION: Site/Server downtime coming next week. The outage is expected to last at least 4-5 days, minimum.
I was informed last week that the hosting provider that DawgTalkers uses is closing their doors on June 24th. However, in a conversation just minutes ago with the owner of that company, he is needing people to get their servers out of his datacenter space by NEXT WEEK. Unfortunately, I haven't yet even been able to find a new hosting company, yet, so I'm in a scramble to say the least.
I am currently looking at having the server shut down on Wednesday and shipped Next Day Air to me so that I can have it in hand ASAP to hopefully get it into a new datacenter here in Cleveland. I'll be doing everything I can to minimize the impact, and I will hopefully have everything back up and running by the end of next weekend.
More info to come as I have it....
Update 1: Confirmed shutdown on the morning of Wednesday, June 5th.

Since some people may have some questions, I've moved this announcement and (hopefully) have made it so that folks can post on the thread.
Hit me with any questions you have regarding the server move and I'll try to answer things as best I can.
Some quick tidbits:
The server will be getting shut down the morning of this Wednesday, June 5th - I do not know at what hour that will happen, however.
This is temporary; this is NOT like BrownsChat shutting down.
I do not, yet, have a new home for it.
If needed, I WILL get a temporary site online by the end of next weekend if I am able (there is one tech hurdle with DNS that I have to deal with).
No data, posts, etc... will be lost.
I will be pulling down a full backup of the entire server & site Sunday night and I will try to grab another snapshot of the data Wednesday morning before the shutdown.
If you have any questions or comments on the issue, post away. If you happen to know of a datacenter that offers affordable colocation services, DEFINITELY post away with any contact information you have.
I apologize for the inconvenience this is to everyone, but I was caught as off-guard with it as everyone else.

I don't know anyone in the business anymore, but I hope that you will find a new home for the server soon. Let us know if you need any additional financial assistance. I'm sure that many of us will do whatever we can to help out. I feel bad for the Browns Chat refugees. They need a temporary home for while their temporary home is down ....

Some of them will be flooding the DYers Facebook page instead...which would also probably be a good place to check for updates I would think.
I know, not everyone's on Facebook, but it is at least a temporary backup for this place if you are on Facebook.

I thought the server was in your house, in a spare bedroom or the basement. Then again, I don't even know what a server is.
If I had known this I would have saved cleaning my gutters for next week, dadgummit.

They put up a crappy replacement when PPE started this site.
A month or so ago their license ran out, and they are, supposedly, working on what to use as a replacement.

Plus, imo this site was/is light years ahead of the now defunct Browns Chat.
The "double plus" is that the knowledge of the posters here is second to none.
The "triple plus" is that due to that knowledge, they can quickly stuff a "4 day worn" pair of socks into the pieholes of a troll/refugee or 3.

I don't see why the domain name would change. He's just picking up the server from one location and moving it to another site.

What I think we can or should all be thankful for is the timing of this.
Can you imagine if it had come around the draft? Or how about during training camp or pre-season, the regular season?
So for my .02, it really couldn't have happened at a better time if in fact it did have to happen at all. This is what I and some posters here call "The Silly Season". When all you really get is conjecture and feel good articles with very little substance.
So luckily it didn't happen at a far more critical time of the year as it pertains to football and our Browns.
JMHO
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

The domain name will not change. Everything will be the same as it is now, it's just going to take a couple of days for things to come back online.
In the Updated News category, I have definitely identified at least one provider as a frontrunner, and unless somebody local beats them out in the next 24 hours, the server will be getting shipped to Orlando. I've also just, literally this moment, been informed of one in Chicago that fits the bill very much.
Things are looking up.

Possibly, but don't hold your breath. DNS updates take a little while to propagate, but yes, it could be sooner. The quicker I can decide on where it is going and get the new IP Address information, the quicker I can begin the changeover.

Can't they pull a copy of the site and host it temporarily while the server is physically being shipped? I dunno. I've been out of this for quite a while .... but back when I worked for the dealership, when we had an issue with the bozos we initially hired for our website, we managed to grab a copy of the site and host it elsewhere while we waited for them to give us the copy we had already paid for. I thought that the DNS updated overnight ...... but that has been quite a while ago, and my memory isn't what it once was.

Yeah, kinda, that could be done, but given the lag time for DNS updates and all that, it'd just be goofy.
Anyway, I've just handed over credit card info with the new provider. The new provider is located in Chicago, same as the old provider, and the old provider's technician that is pulling the server will actually be driving the server over to the new facility himself, so it SHOULD be powered up in the new datacenter by Wednesday evening at the latest.
I'm hoping that I will have all of the IP addresses later this afternoon or tomorrow morning. If so, I may be able to keep perceived downtime under 3 days.

Sounds good. Maybe I am mis-remembering .... or maybe we set up the change of DNS while the old site was still running ..... but I don't remember any down time when we changed over. Like I said though, that was a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

It's always quoted to me as "up to 48 hours" but my experience has been it's usually a lot less than that.
No way to tell how long, essentially. Either your particular DNS server has the update or it doesn't.
