If you remember this song and the crazy yodels, you're old like me.

2 thoughts:

1) Man, the Midnight Special was a great show in its day. They had everything and anything having to do with music on.

2) Those guys, especially the lead singer, must have done some heavy drugs in their time.

My dad has an extensive vinyl collection. Focus' album was amongst them. This song will forever be tied to those late 70's memories.

Okay I'm old like you.

I just wonder how many scripts that dude takes every day now, vs. the amount he took a day to act like that.

I saw these guys while they were still riding the post-hit wave. It was at an outdoor all-day festival at Doyt Perry Stadium, BG.

The "Poe Ditch Music Festival," it was.... I remember it like it was yesstidy...

Focus (filled in for Styx, who were a late minute scratch)
Richie Havens
Golden Earring (who had a hit they were riding)
Montrose
Pure Prarie League
Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Outlaws

They turned that 4- minute pop hit of theirs into a 20+ minute jam.... it was "mind-numbingly fun."... as I recall...

Wow. I remember that ....I didn't go, but a bunch of my friends did. Wasn't Johnny Winter also on the card and cancel at the last minute? I saw the Outlaws back up Stevie Ray Vaughan at the Sports Arena in the 80's. That was a damn good show.

I will never forget the first time I heard the Blue Swede version of that song. I was a kid, and Mom had my alarm clock set to go off to the radio in the morning. I was something like 10 years old.

I heard the opening part of that song, and kinda freaked out in my semi conscious state. lol

I think that I was having a dream about Indians attacking and shooting arrows, or something when the radio blared that song. It took me a minute to wake up and kill the alarm. lol

As I recall it, a powerful mini "supercell" thunderstorm blew through just as Golden Earring was finishing their set. Johnny Winter was slated to stage-up next, but the unstable weather prompted the 'Powers That Be' to cancel the rest of the event.

Folks got pissy.... and the pressbox at the nearby baseball field was torched to ash

I saw that gig for 7 bucks.Well worth the cost of admission.... considering all that I saw that day-

Just blood pressure meds, not blood thinners.

Here you go Clem, I just came across this pic and story. The Doyt was packed!

"~☮ On June 1,1975 Bowling Green University’s Doyt Perry Stadium, Poe Ditch Music Festival featuring Golden Earring, Johnny Winter, Montrose, Styx, The Outlaws, Richie Havens, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and Pure Prairie League. It was estimated that 33,000-40,000 people attended.

"Perspective of one fan" A hot day baking under the sun, but we were maybe 20 feet center from the stage on the football field surrounded by friendly and generous concert goers and one young lady in particular who spent most of the day topless. Never was a big Nitty Gritty Dirt Band or Pure Prairie League fan, or so I thought, but they put on a good show. The original Styx line-up was on hand and they were mildly OK and Montrose just kicked ass and Richie Havens impressed the hell out of me. ☮~"

I saw Montrose about that same time backing up Foghat in Columbia, South Carolina at USC. Ronnie Montrose was from The Edgar Winter Group before that. Do you remember who the lead singer for Montrose was, the skinny kid with the big blonde afro? None other than Sammy Hagar. And you are right, they kicked butt.

I remember when this show aired, I was 15. (Yep, I'm that old.) I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it and still love it today. I'm pretty sure that Focus didn't have any follow up hits after that, maybe a song called "Sylvia" but nothing else noteworthy.

I never attended those HUGE concerts. The Dayton Harrah Arena was large enough. But I did see Montrose there playing with Edgar Winter's Band and he was jumping, literally, all over the place.

Saw Humble Pie, Spirit, Roy Buchanan and some I can't remember.

We moved up here and I went to a couple Coliseum concerts and decided I didn't like big venues.

Saw Zepplin and kept looking at the back of the arena because the echo made me think there were 2 bands playing. Saw Yes there and was terrified I would get an eye blown out because the concert was nothing but a mess of fireworks going off one after another.

Weird Days. Great bands, but weird days.
