Had he just beaten the crap out of Z would he have been charged with a crime? I bet he would have. They would have said if someone is following you, you call the cops. You dont double back on them and attack them.
I don't doubt that he would have. The problem being, when you have a "stand your ground law" it's a two way street. If you feel you're being stalked, at some point you have a right to defend yourself.
I've made it clear that I don't know the answer to these questions, but I could see how TM could have been fearful in this situation too.
As I stated much earlier in this thread, it is a lot about the wording of the law itself. As it's written, it almost appears that if both parties are in fear of their life, the one with the gun wins.
Since we only get to hear one side of the story, I guess we'll never really know both sides of the story.

Do you have any facts or stats to back up that claim?
Yes, I do. But I'll let you research them in public records for your lasy arse self tho.
So, in other words, you don't have any facts to back that up.
So in other words you are lazy also.

And be careful. If he doesn't care for your source he'll discredit all of your work too.

I must have missed his source. He said " In almost every "self defense" case, the defendent takes the stand "
When someone asked for his source, he pulled the old "YOU look it up" thing. I asked for his source, and was told I was lazy as well.
It was just a question. If he had the sources handy, he would've posted them. From my very perfunctory search.......it all depends. I haven't seen anything that says "in almost every self defense case, the defendant takes the stand."

Just admitt you and Jfanent are too lazy to go look for yourself and need help from others. Then denounce the source, or argue like you know it all and add no data sources of your own. LOL

It shows that he has smart lawyers more than anything. Putting Zimmerman on the stand would be suicidal.
Why? You don't think he can stand his ground?
This case may end up being way more important and it will merely have the names Zimmerman and Martin attached.
The "Stand Your Ground" was a non-existent "liberty" pushed through for political gain and now it shows how stupid an idea it turned out to be.

I'm not going to go back and figure out who started this little whizzing contest but if you are the one who first stated that in almost every case they do take the stand, then it would seem to be on you to prove your statement if asked... if he started it by saying they don't, then it would be on him to prove it...
Whoever started it shouldn't just throw generalizations out there without a source and then expect somebody else to either accept it or prove them wrong...
Just my thoughts.

DC, let them have their little war. I even tried to calm the storms by looking a few things up and posting them, but they want to throw jabs back-n-forth anyway.

There was no reason for him to take the stand. They already had video of him demonstrating what occurred in his words and on a talk show. They had his words without him giving the prosecution the ability to cross. There was no benefit for him to be on the stand.

The main problem here is that some of you guys are regarding one man's version of a story as the truth. We obviously can't hear Trayvon's side of the story.
But what if I told you someone was aggressively following you with a deadly weapon? Would that person be the instigator or have self-defense if you decided to confront them? If that is what happened.
Why would anybody confront someone if you knew they had a deadly weapon?
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Judge declined to let jury consider 3rd degree manslaughter / child abuse that the state came up with at the last minute. Defense attorneys were pissed off at that.

Third degree felony murder, not manslaughter.
The jury does get to consider manslaughter.

I tri-screen at work so I can multitask. I can go outside with my laptop but then I would be down to one screen and it's such a pain in the butt to only work with one screen.
I have a few apps that send updates about current events so I see them come across. I haven't watched a single moment of the trial besides what is on the news when I go home as a recap of the day. And it's been at the top of the Google News page pretty much since the trial started, some times I will read an article about it.

All i will say is, I believe Zimmerman acted lawfully in accordance with Florida Law. If the roles were reversed and Zimmerman was the one dead and Martin was in Zimmerman's position I would feel the same way.
The state and the prosecution are grabbing at straws trying to puff up more charges at Zimmerman at the last minute because they fear he is going to walk...which he should walk.
If Zimmerman if convicted on these charges that was just introduced today by the prosecution, i'll be his conviction will be vacated by an appeals court.
Good luck Zimmerman, your being used as a political scape goat.

Tri-screen? So you have the Zimmerman trial on one screen, dawgtalkers on another and work on another? Imagine how much things would suffer if you had one screen and it had work on it during the work day!
The horrors! Actually it's 10:45 here so I'm not standing on higher ground here.

I typically run at any given time 6 application that I am constantly switching between. I use to dual screen when I had a desktop but earlier this year I got a laptop with a docking station so I was able to plug my old monitors into the docking station and use the laptop screen. It makes my job soo much easier because I am constantly comparing data between different programs. I hate working from home now where I only have my laptop screen.
I would Quad screen if I could!!!!

I've been following it a lot too... MY PREDICTION: Not Guilty on ALL COUNTS
Sad that the boy was killed, but factoring in the stand your ground law which I'm not a fan of, I think Zimmerman gets off on self defense.

So who all thinks that the arrest and trial were all products of political and societal pressure? The prosecutions case is been so week, it is almost as if they aren't even trying to get a conviction, and that they are going through the motions to appease the masses.

I think it is entirely because of political and societal pressures.
I don't think that means the case is invalid.
There was plenty of evidence showing that the incident wasn't fully investigated so people put pressure on the government to do something about it.
Is that wrong?

Not at all. The case and trial should have happened. Anyone who gets killed under murky circumstances deserves that much... however, the circus that is has become is ABSOLUTELY purely because of political and media pressures. I won't even call it "societal" pressures, because that is driven by politics and media.

As Ppl said, yes something should have been done. My statement was more on the way this thing is going about. It seems like the prosecution is intentionally trying to NOT win, without looking like they laid down. If they had intended on fighting and winning, I think they would have gone with a lesser charge that they would have a better chance at winning.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

I just watched the closing arguments.. I have a question. The prosecution said two things that don't make sense to me.
First, he said that Z didn't give TM a chance and that TM never saw the gun.
Next he said that TM was the one in fear of his life.
Hmm.. TM is over 6 foot, 200 and in shape. Z is a short chubby guy. If TM never saw the gun, why would he have feared for his life?
Most of the evidence shows that TM was on top beating the snot out of him. At what point was he afraid if he never saw the gun?
