2 years, $24 million would be a nice figure for next year. If it's a straight split, then we could keep the rest of the team together, and still sign a max contract free agent. (and keep our first draft pick(s))

It would be pretty ideal, it seems. It still doesn't solve the issue of signing him long term along with another max guy, should it come to that, but it gets you two years out of him if everything goes well.

Speights to the Warriors. http://www.cbssports.com/nba/blog/eye-on...three-year-dealThe Golden State Warriors have had to make tough decisions regarding their excellent bench from last season and juggling the process of maintaining flexibility as they try to better this team as a whole. With the recent reported agreement between the Warriors and Andre Iguodala on a four-year deal, it looked like the team lost its chance to keep reserve players like Carl Landry and Jarrett Jack, both of whom were looking for significant pay increases in their next respective contracts. With Landry agreeing to a deal with the Sacramento Kings, the Warriors had to find a replacement for their top reserve big man from last season. They may have found his replacement in Marreese Speights, who last played for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports is reporting the Warriors and Speights have agreed to a three-year deal. The Golden State Warriors reached agreement on a three-year deal with Cleveland Cavaliers forward-center Marreese Speights, a league source told Yahoo! Sports. Speights saw a bump in his production last season when he was traded from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Cavaliers. He averaged 10.2 points and 5.1 rebounds in 18.5 minutes in 39 games with Cleveland. He also made 45.7 percent of his field goals as a Cavalier. This was up from the first 40 games of the season he spent with the Grizzlies when he averaged 6.5 points and 4.7 rebounds in 14.5 minutes. He shot just 42.9 percent with Memphis this season. Speights is certainly a capable scorer, averaging 17.0 points per 36 minutes for his career. He can knock down open jumpers and has a nice game inside. It's just a matter of finding ways to get him consistent minutes that don't leave your offensive flow sputtering or your defense suffering. Taking away a lot of responsibilities from him on the floor and just unleashing him to score on his opponent could be a perfect role for him with the Warriors, if they can surround him with balance on both ends of the floor.

If this offer is true bynum will probably sign in the next 48 hours i am holding my breadth. 2 one of the reasons i believe this is going to happen is because we let speights go. 3 This draft plus free agency looks like a mega trade getting ready to happen. 4 If this true and we have 4 healthy big men come playoffs everybody beware.

Speights was gone as soon as we drafted Bennett. Immediately he became the 4th (at best) big at that point. (behind Varejao, Thompson, and Bennett) He might have been behind Zeller. Who knows? The point is that he wasn't going to get many minutes on this team, especially if we sign Bynum. It's like Livingston. As soon as we signed Jack, Livingston knew that he just wasn't going to get many minutes here. (if any) If we sign Bynum, we would have: PG: Irving, Jack SG: Waiters, Miles, Felix C: Bynum, Varejao, Zeller PF: Thompson, Bennett SF: Clark, Gee, Karasev That's 13 ..... which could be our active roster. We would have to add 2 more players who would likely be inactive on game days, or sent to Canton. At one point we were reported to be interested in resigning Ellington, but with the signing of Jack, who knows? Felix could move to the inactive list if we sign someone who would be more useful on game days. I actually like that lineup. Some will laugh, but that is a playoff team. They have a really nice blend of youth, talent, and experience. Of course, a lot depends on Bynum and Varejao both being healthy. I like both the 1st and 2nd teams, if both guys are healthy. Plus we could play Zeller some just to keep excessive minutes off of both Varejao and Bynum. (or even slide Thompson over to play alongside Bennett in a smaller, quicker lineup) Lots of flexibility on the roster if we sign Bynum. We would have Thompson who can play PF and C. So can Varejao. Waiters can play both Guard spots, as can Jack. Miles can play SG and some SF. Clark can play any front court position. Karasev can play SF or SG. Gee is pretty much locked in at SF, but he can defend either G or the SF spots. That could be very interesting. Man a lot would depend on Bynum and Varejao staying healthy though. I suppose that we could limit their minutes though ..... maybe Bynum with around 25 minutes, Varejao with around 15, and Zeller picking up the rest. That could be a good step towards keeping everyone healthy. With Jack, maybe we can keep Irving to around 30 minutes per game. Anyway, I trust Chris Grant, and if he thinks that it's a good idea to sign Bynum, then I would guess that they have done their homework. I like the 2nd season team option too. No sense letting Bynum get healthy and show he is back to 100% on our dime, then letting him bolt right away. The next week should be really interesting, to say the least.

Nice breakdown. I agree, it looks good.
IF...and I say IF....If Bynum comes back strong, he is a great pick-up. He isn't a bad scorer, but he is a sweeper off the boards, and I value that in the middle more than anything else.

He also doesn't deserve a statue. I don't know how you can put one up for that guy, with how he left, against Bob Feller and everything he stood for.
Thome should not get a statue before Larry Doby.

Or probably 3 or 4 guys at the very least.
I feel the same way about Lebron. No retired #, no statue.
If he were to come back in his prime and help us win a title? Well then that's open for conversation.

I'm starting to think this is going to happen. Sounds like we will know sometime today.
I know it's a risk, but I think it's a very calculated, and minimal risk move. I like it. It seems pretty close to fair for both sides. I guess it's between us and Atlanta?

I have read that other teams were looking at a 1 year deal worth about $5 - $6 million. I don't know how true that is ..... but I was watching a video on one of the major sports sites and that's what they were reporting.

and Atlanta has Millsap + Horford and no current PG. They "might" get Jennings.
I think we have a pretty good chance at Bynum.

Atlanta is going to be a decent team again this year I feel. Be interesting to see them without Smith, as he was always able to create his own shot. Don't think Millsap can do that.

Unfortunately, that shot was often an off-balanced, ill-advised 3 pointer.

who is their PG? they signed Korver and Millsap, but lost Smith and Pachulia. I don't see a single guy on their roster that can create his own shot or set up his teammates.
I liked how Ferry stripped things down and got rid of the big contracts, but I don't understand what he is doing since that point. The Hawks were stuck in mediocre land before and they seem stuck there again.

I've seen different things, but for the most part what I'm reading is that Jack's contract has a team offer in the fourth year.
Not seeing anything in the way of breakdowns or guarantees, but it looks like people probably won't be liking this signing too much in a few years when we're paying a 33-year old Jack.
I like the signing. We overpaid, but it's the NBA. You overpay.
I'm not the biggest fan of bringing in Bynum, but if it's a team option second year, then I get the idea. I just have a feeling the guy's knee problems are degenerative.
Shaky injury history + immaturity = buyer beware
They sure seem to be leaving the 3 spot open ... which I think is foolish, if the plan is You Know Who. James isn't coming back. Don't plan on it. It would be foolish not to take a crack at it, but tailor a good Plan B.
At this point, the team has jabbered too much about the playoffs not to make it. They have to shove some chips into the center.

Jeff Teague. They're also in conversation for trading for Brandon Jennings.

they aren't exactly inspiring much confidence in that being what they want. they are running rumors that they want to trade him for Jennings, he might just sign elsewhere and will they match, et cetera?
and, Teague isn't signed (and Jennings not traded for) today, which is the timeline of Bynum making that decision.

Andrew Bynum could never say no to a good strip club.
He may make his decision tonight.

j/c http://www.ohio.com/news/bynum-s-agent-no-decision-coming-tonight-1.411889Andrew Bynum will not make a decision tonight and will visit Dallas tomorrow as planned, his agent, David Lee, told the Akron Beacon Journal on Tuesday. Bynum concluded his visit with the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday. Asked if a decision was expected this evening, Lee said, "Not that I'm aware of." Asked when a decision could be forthcoming, Lee was vague and said it could be this week, but he couldn't say for sure. Bynum visited the Cavaliers on Monday and left with a two-year offer, but Lee refused to get into specifics of the visit and wouldn't comment when asked if they had left with an offer from the Hawks. "It's ongoing discussions and I'd prefer they stay private among the parties," Lee said.

I've always been a fan of Horford's game. Guy has been so consistent. I was happy to see a few draft guys compare Bennett's game to his. Obviously a long way to go with that, but it definitely got me excited to see him get out there for the Cavs.

Not quite sure what Danny Ferry's doing collecting all the bigs. He got a great deal for Millsap, though. 2 years for $19 million. And the Bobcats signed Al Jefferson for 3 years, $41 million.

Bargnani traded to the Knicks for three players, a future 1st and two future 2nds.
Perennial thorn in the Cavs' side, Mike Dunleavy, signs with Chicago.

Another former Cavalier with a new home. Wayne Ellington agrees to terms with Dallas Mavericks - sources - ESPN Dallas http://espn.go.com/dallas/nba/story/_/id...vericks-sourcesThe Dallas Mavericks have agreed to terms with shooting guard Wayne Ellington on a two-year deal worth more than $5 million, league sources said. Ellington, 25, averaged 10.4 points and 3.0 rebounds in 38 games with the Cleveland Cavaliers after being traded from the Memphis Grizzlies in midseason. Ellington has career averages of 6.9 points and 2.0 rebounds per game for three teams in four seasons. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Ellington likely will compete with fellow free-agent addition Devin Harris to start at shooting guard for the Mavs. O.J. Mayo, last season's starter at shooting guard, has agreed to a three-year, $24 million deal with the Milwaukee Bucks. The signings can become official at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, when the league lifts its annual moratorium on player business.

link Source: Andrew Bynum to Cavaliers Andrew Bynum has decided to join the Cleveland Cavaliers, a source close to the situation told ESPN's Chris Broussard. Bynum and the Cavaliers agreed to an incentive-laden, two-year contract that could be worth up to $24 million, sources told ESPN. The Cavs hold a team option for the second year of the deal, and only $6 million of the contract is guaranteed, according to sources. Bynum, who missed the entire 2012-13 season with the Philadelphia 76ers due to a knee injury, will have to reach a variety of health- and games-related benchmarks to collect the full $12 million in the first year of the deal, sources said. Sources told ESPN that the Cavaliers, however, see the $6 million guarantee as a low-risk move given how rarely a former All-Star center like Bynum becomes available on the open market -- and how rarely they are available to lottery teams like Cleveland. If Bynum exceeds all expectations and plays well, the Cavs also can pick up the second-year option and have another attractive piece alongside star guard Kyrie Irving for their long-planned attempt to bring LeBron James back to Cleveland in 2014 free agency. Bynum made his decision Wednesday night after three consecutive days of meetings with Cleveland, the Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks. Although the Cavs are realistic about the severity of Bynum's injury history, the team was encouraged by recent MRI results, league sources told ESPN. The Cavs hope Bynum will be ready for training camp. ESPN.com's Chris Broussard, Marc Stein and Brian Windhorst contributed to this report.

Great signing if he is healthy and can actually get on the court for the majority of games.
Horrible signing if he is still injured and never heals playing only enough games to meet some incentives.
Time will tell.

I wish I could make my deposit on the NBA broadband 5 team pack right now.
Even for those against signing Bynum, you have to love the provisions of this deal. 6m gauranteed, 2nd year is a team option. Low risk. The Cavs also needed to reach the floor so the move was near perfect.

Its a great signing. If he flames out, its what they paid Luke Walton last year. If he goes in the middle ground, he's off the books at the end of the year. If he is what he once was, he's signed for next year at 3/4 of a max contract. Love this move. Absolutely love this move. Chris Grant is having himself an offseason. If Bynum is healthy, he's set himself up to trade Andy at the deadline for a SF and plug Zeller in as backup 5. Lots of depth on this team now.

Pretty much.
I'm not so sure that this a good move for us, but we've insulated ourselves from taking all that much damage on the gamble.

Irving/Jack Waiters/Miles Clark/Gee (or Gee/Clark) Thompson/Bennett Bynum/Varejao/Zeller
Not too shabby.
Potentially awesome, and potentially many visits with the team Dr.

I root for cap space. Why would we want to spend money on a one year contract just to watch someone play Center well?
I'd rather hoard cap space and think about it all the time while watching my team perform at a poor level.
And don't get me started about the Browns! Woohoo! $30M! Hopefully they can cut some guys and get that number up around $35M.
Ughhhhhh....
So we're out of cap space. What now!!!
I'm forced to watch quality NBA basketball!!! Arrggghhhh

I don't see it as a horrible signing even if the guy plays 9 games for us. It costs 6 mil and we dunp him.
It's not my money and we weren't going to spend it elsewhere.
It's almost all upside and very little down.
