Well, the hip replacement surgery the wife had in February didn't work so today, she's got the pleasure of being cut open again and having the old/new hip removed and a new one put in. Just dandy..
Wish her luck folks.. and thanks for any thoughts and prayers you throw her way.

Btw neighbor............when she/you get re-squared away............interested in knowing if she received the same "new hip"(is there only one type of "new hip"?) or diff type, etc.
No doubt a few Dawgs on these boards will be in similar health situations in their near and/or future/elderly years.

Very glad to tell you all that the surgery was a complete success. The doctor is confident that they got it right with a different type of hip. So, in a couple of days, I'm once again my wifes Beck and Call boy...LOL thanks for the prayers.. they worked

Glad to hear that they think they got it right this time. I would imagine that it's not the kind of surgery you want to go through even once, let alone twice. Hope she has a full recovery.

I can promise you, it isn't. I met a lady who's husband had 13 hip replacements over a 20 year span.. That's really gotta suck.
Got a text from the wife this morning at 6:08 am.. I was so tired from yesterday that I slept in until 6:30. Noticed the message from her and thought, ,OH No,, whats up. (she wrote, "are you awake yet")
I called her right away,, she was bored and needed someone to talk to LOL That was it.
She's in good spirits, being her silly self. Very alert. So I suspect she'll be coming home either tomorrow or Sunday.
I'll visit her this afternoon..

Actually, as I've come to find out, there are a host of reasons.. 1. infections. 2. The device not being fitted properly 3. the improper device (this was my wifes problem)
And from what I can tell after doing some research and asking a ton of questions there are about 20 or so things that can go wrong. (probably more, but I've only found 20ish) Most of which are so medically technical in nature that I dare not even attempt to explain.. I'd screw it up badly..

Sizing is definitely a critical part of the whole thing. Not only does the joint part have to fit correctly, but the part that anchors into your hip also has to be sized correctly.
Google and pull up an image of a hip replacement. The sorta-spikey looking part is the thing that goes into the hip. Your hip has to be prepped to receive that, and I'm pretty sure people's hips aren't naturally like that. It's not like swapping a hard drive that has a universal plug. :-p
Also, after the surgery, your bone has to "grow into" the device. The anchor part is textured/coated to facilitate bone growth in and around the device, which is what keeps the artificial joint in place. If that growth doesn't occur (which can happen for a multitude of reasons), then the implant is probably going to have to come out. :-(

The Latest News:
She was supposed to come home today but the doctors felt one more day of PT by the hospital staff was the right way to go. So after lunch tomorrow, I'll go get her and bring her home..
I miss her.. a lot.

Daman good see she's coming home soon. Sure she'll do fine in rehab. After both my hips and knee, [not at the same time] i left the hospital on a cane. The ankle was alittle different..16wks non loadbearing, then 16 wks in a boot with therapy starting around wk 20..wish the best for you both..
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

did you ever see the movie "Pretty Woman' with Julia Roberts, there is a line in there that she was Richard Geres "Beck and CallGirl" well, I'm my wifes "Beck and CALLBOY" for at least the next 4 or more weeks.

That's fantastic news!
We noticed right away how much better she is doing this time than she did in February surgery. First, she was home one day sooner last time and wasn't able to move about at fluidly.. I had to help her in and out of bed 2 or 3 times a night.
This time, last night, she got up several times, didn't even wake me. She's moving around great, there is pain of course, but I think the right device, put in properly this time, did the trick
