We're talking about Eric Wright, right? You're suggesting we bring in a guy who just failed a physical that voided a trade in which his team shipped him for peanuts after he got nailed on a DUI? The guy who was suspended four games last year for failing drug tests? Who played so poorly that he had to re-structure his deal to the tune of $6 mil less a year? That Eric Wright? Hadnt heard about the suspension. Obviously that changes things.
Granted, he's gone downhill but he was a good little player when he was here. Don't know what the hell happened to him since. Maybe whatever Detroit has is contagious.

Read the article.... he had a four game suspension last season, and he had a DUI arrest 10 days ago.
Of course, it is not written in stone that he's going to be suspended, but after a four game suspension, the next step is a year - so if he gets put in time out, that's how long he'll be out.

Eric Wright is not facing an 8-game suspension, unless something crazy happens e have a new myth to justify trading Eric Wright. JoeBucsFan claims that Eric Wright is facing an "eight-game suspension as a repeat offender". Unless JoeBucsFan has any information I don't (which is possible), this claim seems ludicrous to me. Here's why: •Eric Wright is in principle not a repeat offender. He was arrested for DUI last season, yes, but he was never convicted. The charges were dropped, no league discipline was handed down, etc. This is his first DUI offense as far as the NFL is concerned. •While Wright ran into some suspicion in college, he was never convicted. In fact, charges weren't even filed. That can't realistically be used as a basis to see him as a repeat offender, even if you ignore the issue of those problems pre-dating his NFL career. •The four-game suspension under the PED policy does not count. That policy and the substance abuse policy are seen as completely disparate policies under the CBA, and the NFL does not view a first-time substance abuse violation as a repeat offense regardless of the amount of preceding PED violations. •The NFL has historically viewed DUIs as substance abuse issues, and first-time substance abuse policy violations are not grounds for suspension, but grounds for entrance into an expanded drug testing program. However, this may not be the case anymore. •According to a 2012 Pro Football Talk article, though, DUI punishments are handled differently. At the time a first offense was punished by a fine of two game checks, although the NFL wanted to move to a two-game suspension with the NFLPA resisting. If the NFLPA has relented, Wright might be suspended -- for two games. •The NFL could also suspend Wright under the personal conduct policy, as they did when Vincent Jackson (!) was popped a second time for a DUI back in 2010, but there's little reason for them to treat Wright differently from any other first-time DUI offender. •Even if the NFL does find reason to suspend Wright, an 8-game suspension seems extremely unlikely. Vincent Jackson got three games after his second DUI arrest. Last year's DUI policy didn't even allow a single game suspension for a first-time offense. That may have changed since, but to an 8-game suspension? Not likely. This doesn't make Eric Wright an angel. Obviously, he's run into minor and major trouble repeatedly with the Buccaneers. They got rid of him not because he was a bad player (he was starting during offseason workouts), but because they didn't see him fitting the culture. It made them a worse football team, but that's the decision they made. But a looming, eight-game suspension? Unless JoeBucsFan has some information I don't, that's nonsense. Eight-game suspensions are not handed out much at all, and they're certainly not handed for a player's first DUI conviction -- if he's even convicted. Fans thought he deserved top CB money. I'm not sure how this article addresses this.
This one year "show me" contract ended up being smart for Wright as he subsequently signed with Tampa Bay in that giant free agency period they had. He got paid #1 CB money for the most part.

It's probably my second favorite on TV. I was working in NY, but had to go to Dallas for business. All the Giants fans from work were giving me crap, and I walked into the hotel sports bar wearing my Bernie jersey. Every guy in the place gave me crap when I walked in. Meh, I don't care. They all shutup, then ran and hid by the end of the game.
The other was a Jets game mid-80s. The bet was the loser washed the winner's car. I had a nice shiny car!

I'd rather give the spot to a young player who wants to be here because he wants to play ball and help the Browns become a winner.....Wright would be here for a PAYCHECK...Thats it...Lets develop a younger player...not try to retrain a broken down retread...lets move forward...
P.S....There is a reason the Bucs tried to trade him to the 49ers and when the 49ers vetoed the trade...then Bucs released him anyway....ya he was making to much...but alot of CB are over paid and there teams keep them becuase CB's are a needed comonidty there highly valued...so when a team releases one it has to atleast spring up the red flags.....

That is exactly what some are talking about. The "glory" days when Wright was our #1 corner, and Peterson came to town and raped the secondary. This guy has bounced around the league, never staying anywhere long. There is a reason for that. No thank you. I'd rather have Leon back, at least he had one great season(knock on wood that DOESN'T happen though).

That's not an accurate statement. Just because I referenced A game, they wouldn't have won without that player, doesn't mean it was his only good game. It was during a time when he strung together a number of good performances.

Either way, good riddance. At one time he could cover alright, but he was a lousy tackler. I MUCH preferred Sheldon Brown. He wasn't perfect, but he WAS tough.

I didn't say he was a bum. I said I did a lot of research on that rape and drug case and I thought the guy was a character risk. I was around the game for a long time. Most of my friends are coaches. While there are some guys who overcome their character flaws, most seem to keep making mistakes over and over. And just when you get to the point of trusting them...........they break your heart all over again.
That's why you won't see me getting too excited about Gordon. I hope he overcomes his issues. I hope he plays well and becomes a star. But, I just don't trust him. He's had a lot of chances and he is who he is........

Wright was good enough to draw a contract valued over $37M from Tampa Bay. Awful players don't usual get that. And now the 49'ers just tried to sign him. They expect to compete for the superbowl this coming season. Their not looking for bums. Wright's problems are not on the field they're in his head.
