If you still have access to the game, watch the PR TD that was called back in the first quarter. At the end he's blocking the punter and gets tripped to the ground. The way he lands on his back I bet it was that play. Assuming it happened in the game of course.

heard Chud say today that Dion Lewis will need surgery .. meaning he will most likely be done for the year.
yeah if it requires surgery he is done....must have been a really bad break. probably wll need screws and a plate.
I would expect the short IR for Dion with a midseason return for him; maybe around November.... All depends how bad the break actually was, but just because he had surgery doesn't mean it was horrendous, just means the fracture was displaced and had to be put back into alignment....
Of course if the season goes down the tubes- he might just be put on the shelf until next year. But i would not expect the season ending IR right now, they should keep their options open.

How many offensive touches was Lewis going to get per game? 3? 5? That is not a huge blow. And we have other guys who can return kicks.
If Richardson gets hurt we are screwed either way.
I think it was going to be more then that. I am almos tpositive come regular season Norv would have plays were Lewis was lined up as a wideout with richardson in the backfield.

I suspect that Lewis was going to be a 7-10 touch/game guy ...... but that's not going to happen right now. He might be back later this year, or he might be out for the year. Either way I think that we'll be OK. I think that Jackson can catch the ball really well out of the backfield as well. He doesn't have the great speed that Lewis does, but I think that he can be a useful part. We also have Obi who can do some of the same things Lewis does, again without quite the speed Lewis has. Anyway, it does seem like Norv knows how to fill holes when he has to.
I do wonder who is going to be out KR now though. Maybe Bademosi? I think that he's been the #2 KO returner so far this year. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I really don't want to have Benjamin do too much on teams. Then again, if we keep the opponent from scoring, they only get to kick off once, and this becomes a moot point.
Yeah thats a good point. Who the heck is gonna return kicks??? I straight up forgot Lewis was doing that to....that sucks...

Week 3. Lewis goes on the field as a receiver. Who comes off Richardson, Gordon, Little, Bess, or Cameron?

He was going to be our KO returner too. Benjamin might get killed doing that chore, so it looks like we might use Bademosi, which is probably a downgrade.

I would say lewis lines up outside...maybe in the slot like buffalo does with spiller. Gordan and little out there with him and trich in the backfield.

Bess. Or if they want, once again like the bills did last year...you can go spread with 4 or 5 wr's....lewis being one of them

It doesn't make any sense to take Bess of the field in any passing situations. Nor does it make sense to take Gordon, Little, or Cameron off the field. Especially for Lewis.
I maintain that Lewis would have had five touches or less per game this season. The biggest loss will be kick returns, which are becoming more and more irrelevant because of the rules.

In this hypothetical game, Cameron or Bess obviously.
But, I don't think Lewis' loss is so big because he was going to be some extra split out RB gimmicky guy. I think it's a big loss because I honestly envisioned him being our 3rd down RB every 3rd down (minus maybe goal line/3rd and 1) AND getting 5-6 touches per game on 1st and 2nd downs as our "change of pace" back AND being our primary kick returner. I see 8-12 touches per game EASY that now we have to figure out a way to replace it.
Not to mention, in the likely event TRich misses time somewhere this season (let's face it he got hurt at Alabama, he got hurt here last year, he got dinged this preseason and he's a RB in the NFL...where it's a bigger feat if they go a full season WITHOUT getting injured more so than if they do) I felt we could go into any week against any opponent with Lewis as our starting RB and Jackson/Obi to spell him and still feel like we could produce on the ground enough to give us a shot to win. Now, if TRich misses a game and we have to start Jackson? Oh and if he wants a breather we have to pull our starting FB in Obi? Yeah, not good.
So yeah, we better be praying to God, knocking on wood, wishing on clovers and anything else you can think of that TRich never misses time now AND plays to his potential. If he does, you're right this injury is no big deal and we'll ultimately be fine.
Who here is willing to bet our season on that though? Sure as heck not me.

You want to take our best offensive player off the field every third down? Richardson is also our best third down back (blocking and receiving). Third down backs have to do more than be shifty. Richardson is an every down back that should be on the field for every play. In Norv Turner's first season with the Chargers Darren Sproles had 47 total touches on offense. The reason: LaDainian Tomlinson. The next year? Sproles had 90 total touches on offense (just over 5 per game). The reason: LaDainian Tomlinson. It wasn't until Tomlinson's age 30 season that Sproles really came on.
I'm not saying Richardson is Tomlinson. I'm saying he is an everydown back like Tomlinson was. You don't take those type of guys off the field.

Like I said earlier, if Richardson gets hurt for a long stretch we are screwed either way.

I think we are okay at backup RB with Brandon Jackson, and Ogbonnaya behind him. These guys are solid, if not spectacular as RB's, and Jackson is really good receiver. I never really thought Lewis was Richardson's backup, more of a change-of-pace RB that would be used situationally.

I do think we will look through the league cuts to find a scat back type of player ... someone who gives us some flexibility (notice how much we moved Lews around?) ... but if we can't find one that matches Norv's liking then we will stick with what we have.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I'm thinking that taking your best CB and your 1st round draft pick off of ST's may help reduce the risk of injury to some of your most valuable assets.
But it's just a thought....

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

He plays special teams because he's ungodly fast, can shed a block while running down the field, and is a very good tackler.
Those 3 things are vital on kick coverage.

we will agree to disagree then. They said on the radio Norv turner was pretty ticked about the lewis injury. Like i said i think he was going to be a big part of our offense. Doesnt matter now anyways....we wont find out

According to the article posted right under your response, the team doesn't know how long Lewis will be out and won't know for several weeks. Do you still need that hug?

Chargers WR Eddie Royal suffers bruised lung at practice. Weird.

I heard about that and was thinking the same thing. I have never heard about this injury before and now it has occurred two times within three days. Very strange. Royal's injury seemed to be more serious, they took him off the field in an ambulance.

Dolphins TE Dustin Keller was carted off with a gruesome knee injury. It was one of those plays that makes you flinch and literally feel the pain. Just another injured player at the mercy of the preseason.

Yes, I saw your last reply. I'm not afraid to give another man a hug if he needs one. Okay, seriously though, it would be helpful to know what kind of break it was. I said in another thread I also broke my fibula playing football. It was a clean break, and it healed quickly. I was walking on it within a month. I was able to run again in about six weeks. If I were playing in the NFL, I could have played again in two months. But this was a clean break with no complications. Maybe I've missed it, but I haven't seen detailed information on the condition of his leg. Who knows, maybe he will be gone for the whole season if the break was a bad one, but I'm hoping it was clean. All I'm saying is, breaking the fibula doesn't have to be a season ending injury.

As cruel as it may seem to say this, but I hope Keller misses the regular season game against us. I wouldn't wish this on any player, but he's a threat to that offense and one less target our defense would have to plan around....
Champ Bailey on crutches (x-ray negative though). This saddens me, this dude is playing at an elite level and has been for year after year. He's what, 35 years old?

Obviously Keller's absence hurts the Dolphins ... but the NFL has to come up with a solution to the preseason. All of these injuries hurt the product of the regular season (even from a fantasy football standpoint).
Also, Derek Wolfe from the Broncos was taken off on a stretcher last night.

well if he needs surgery then i would think it doesn't sound like a clean break? Do you agree? Why else would he need surgery? How much rehab did you have to do?

well, seeing that we will be missing Lewis, Gordan, pinkston, lava man, possible mingo and who knows who else by that time, im not gonna lose any sleep if the dolphins have some of their own injuries

Surgery? I missed that. You're right, if he needs surgery, it's worse than a clean break. Hm... hopefully it heals quickly, but that does sound more serious.
