Seems to be a pretty quiet trade deadline. I'm sure we'll see a few decent moves, but no blockbusters.

For the Sox, I like the Peavy trade. He's not the pitcher he once was, but he's still a solid #2 in the rotation behind Clay Buchholz when he comes back.

Inglesias was a nice piece for us, but he's not the future and his trade value will never be higher than it was right now. Sox called up Brock Holt, but it's clear that the Xander Bogearts era is about to be underway with this move.

Any guesses on who else gets moved today?

There are so many teams in playoff contention that it's hard for some to make a trade while they still have any hope of making the playoffs.

Just in the AL, the East has 4 teams in possible contention for a playoff spot ..... 3 teams in the AL Central ....... and 2 out West. That doesn't leave many teams to trade away assets ...... and, in fact, some of those teams may not have assets that other teams would want to overpay for.

Thought it was a great move by the tigers, to get the shortstop of the future. Plus for Boston as well, as they didn't have a spot for Inglesias.

I think Morneau will be traded. I still think a few of those Phillie players need to go. Amaro is dreaming if they think they have another run in them next season, even if Roy comes back.

It'll be interesting to see if anyone makes a play for Michael Young. Supposedly the Pirates and Orioles are looking for a bat, but he does make $20M per year, so maybe too rich for their blood. Then there's Cliff Lee @ $25M ...

Phils are asking too much for Lee. I read the Red Sox were interested, but the asking price was our top 4 prospects, that's why we moved on to Peavy.

I'd like to see the Sox make a move for Young to fill our hole at 3rd.

A lot of these General Managers are overplaying their hands on some of these deals. I think some them will get done in the offseason, but they have to be realistic.

It seems like the suspensions are known. All the guys are going to take 50 game suspensions besides A-Rod. Melky Cabrera, Colon, and Grandal won't have to take suspensions because they are have been suspended for this infraction.

If these rumored asking prices are true, I don't see how you can give any flack to the front office when they don't add anyone else.

Too many buyers, not enough sellers.

24 teams within 10 games of a playoff spot right now.

15 teams within 5 games.

They should follow the college bowl system and randomly pick from the top 20 MLB teams and have each team play a different team in a neutral city a month and a half after the season ends and then declare a champion.

it wouldn't be so random though. it would reward regular season excellence. so those 112 win Mariner's would have made the WS. more of those Braves teams would have as well.

even better, make it top2 in AL to ALCS and top2 in NL to NLCS (and back to 2 divisions) and I'm all aboard (though current format is okay).

j/c..

Since the Astros traded Bud Norris today, their highest paid player is now Erik Bedard at $1.15million this year.

For comparison sake, if Bedard played for the Dodgers (highest payroll in baseball), he would be their 20th highest paid player.

Astros "active" payroll = $13mil (Mark Reynolds + Brett Myer = more)

I understand what they are doing here (bottoming out what was a terrible team and farm system to reboot the farm system first, then team. aka Nats-style), but it's a painful process.

They are on their way already. They have a boatload of great prospects and the right people running the organization.

I'd rather be in the Astros situation than the Phillies. The Phillies GM (Ruben Amaro Jr.) is clueless and believes his team can still contend while being old, injured, and overpayed.
