Another article from the site I write for: Quote:
Constant Change Has One Continuity for the Browns
That continuity is losing. The only thing more amazing than the fact the Browns have gone through Detmer, Couch, Holcomb, Garcia, Dilfer and Frye as named starting QB's since ’99 is the number of coaches. Chris Palmer, Butch Davis, Terry Robiskie and Romeo Crennel. OC’s I recall include Bruce Arians, Terry Robiskie, Maurice Carthon, Jeff Davidson and now Rob Chudzinski. My brain is scrambled on DC names currently but I believe we’ve had at least 4. Oh, and now we are on GM number 3. 2007 will be our 9th year back, essentially equaling 2 years per coach, 3 years per GM and in the first 8 years – 1.3 per QB. How in the hell is a team supposed to compete with this kind of turnover? It typically takes players at least 3 years to develop which begs the question; were our drafts really that horrible or did the constant change prevent them from proper development?
I wish I could remember the poster’s name that stated (to paraphrase) “our only playoff appearance involved an OC in place for 3 years.†My only hope is that Chud is smart enough to run the ball and give this team it’s much needed smash mouth identity. In my humble opinion, Lerner needs to keep this regime in place for AT LEAST the next 3 years so that the changes made in 2005 have time to take full effect. Chud needs to be in place for those 3 years to implement his system and his players. It could be a long hard road but the fact is, if we get a new coach we get a new philosophy and player change. IF we get a new coach and GM we re-build again and the cycle will continue 3 years from now.
1.3 years per QB, I cannot even begin to comprehend that. How is a guy supposed to become a leader in that short of an amount of time? How is the team supposed to hit a comfort zone with that kind of inconsistency? How can a team believe in themselves when the coaches don’t believe in the team? Add into all this Ericht Rhett, Madre Hill, Ben Gay, William Green, Lee Suggs, Reuben Droughns, James Jackson, Travis Prentice and a few I’m sure I’m forgetting and we average over 1 RB per year. Zero continuity at RB, zero continuity at QB and per my last article – completely ignoring the offensive line, is it any wonder why our offense is always at the bottom of the league? . If over the next 3 years more unnecessary change happens, I’ll figure out a way to buy the team and do it correctly. I, for one, am tired of the constant change.

So does this mean if you were to find a way to buy the team, we could expect to see the wishbone formation return and have our RB's carry the ball 35+ times per game??

And blitzing on 90% of the downs, 100% on 3rd down and 300% on 3rd and long.

Not to hijack your thread as that is not my intent but you elude to another thing that troubles me... We aren't an attacking 3-4 defense like Pitt and SD... I wonder if we will evolve to that once we get some more talent here for our defense... I know that Dallas had the personnel but was more of a vanilla Base 3-4... I can see them being DOMINANT this year under Wade Phillips...
Anyway, sorry for the rant... Just that you sparked my intrest when you commented about the defense...

"completely ignoring the offensive line" "
I think Randy's acountant would take issue to this... we have over 100 million in contracts to this "ignored line" If you mean in the draft, then yea.

IMO
The draft is what counts. The only reason we have 100 mill in O-line is because we keep failing to adress it in the draft.

Draft is what I was referring to - that's definitely "ignoring" it.

Hey thanks for going to the trouble of registering on the main board to post the QB Quagmire article. They weren't gonna let me post it. That board needs to see it more than this one does.

After 8 seasons and a putrid OL.
You build an OL through the draft not TRY to buy one, If we've learned ANYTHING since our return, surely that would be it.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

The draft is only half of the story. If we had drafted LCB and Stienbach,we still would have had to pay alot to keep them on the team. The new Browns are a sad story of bad management, bad decisions and bad luck.It will take many years to overcome that.
Indecision may,or maynot,be my problem

It's kind of the point of my article. It'll take (counting this year) 3 more years to correct - if we change regimes we are looking at 5 to 8 more years.

I don't know how you can keep going over there and still keep any sanity. 2 minutes on that board and I need to take a couple of shots of jack.
I go to my 4 year old and get more intelligent conversation.

I'm rather enjoying their, um, lack of cells. It's making me laugh - I take it for what it is. That Broke Back guy is hilarious. He's a typical troll - going to try and ruffle my feathers - we all know that he'll lose that battle. He'll get bored before me.

I think this regime has been more BAD LUCK. Baxter Bentley Combined with Braylon and Winslow make for alot of bad luck. Two 1st rounders and two prize free agents in two years missing all or most of there fist seasons and some beyond. Its not a excuse but it is what it is though. All in all we would definately be better had these guys stayed healthy....how much is hard to determine.

It's tough to have that many players you depend on go down with injury,, makes it harder to evaluate if the FO is doing it's job..
I do believe that in both Baxter and Bentleys case, we would have been better... Baxter because he was better than anyone we put back there in his place.. Bentley only because he's one of the Best centers in the game and he would have had all of training camp to get into the swing of things.. Unlike Fraley who had a week...(man that's gotta suck)
Braylon was doing a decent job finally when he went down.. really started to show why he was a 1st rounder. But he put his head up his butt last season way to many times.. someone needs to talk to that boy.
Winslow,, man I just don't know what to say.. The first injury wasn't even during this regimes time here.. That happened before Phil and RAC were even hired. The second injury,,, that was just STUPID on KW2s part.. But look at how he performed last season.. if he were on a better team, he'd have made the ProBowl with those stats... no question in my mind..
