I just watched Gary Baxter walk onto a NFL network set. He had no limp and said he'll play week 1.

I saw that also,,
He talked about being bedridden for 3 months straight,, but Rich Eisen said he looked great with no limp at all when questioned by Woodson on it. And Baxter said he will be there at CB on day 1. Amazing if its true,,, maybe that will give us a little hope for Bentley as well.

Woah! That's huge.... but there is also one helluva difference between walking onto a set and running and turning at full speed and contact with a WR on soft turf. I'm prepared for the worst, but praying for the best Prove me wrong Gary!

That is really amazing... even if he doesn't come back, it's great he feels so good. If he does make it back, that would be utterly incredible. If he struggles at corner maybe he ends up making the move to safety after all. That might not be too bad either.

It's better than nothing. I'd love to see Baxter return. By the way, any more word on Bentley? I've been off the boards for the most part the past 10 days. First my cable hookup was delayed, then the computer at home conked on me and I'm trying to get a buddy of mine to fix it.

That would be unbelieveable. Truly incredible that he is walking with full range right now. I remember seeing Kellan Winslow in late June before last season and he was walking with a limp then, but was heathly and played against the Saints. Hopefully he is back and can contribute at CB.

Wow, I hope he can make it back on the field, even if it's not from day 1. Just making it back would be one hell of an accomplishment. Go Gary. Though I still believe we need to grab a cb in the draft.

I am glad to hear he can even walk, I can't imagine him being out there week 1!! It would be great, but I hope he doesn't rush back and risk further injury.

Nope, last official words were weeks ago and saying their was a possibility he still might need another surgery. Although that was the story that also said he had been working on the sleds. At the minimum he is doing workout stuff. Baxters story and upbeat attitude just have my hopes raised for Bentley though. Thats the only reason I mentioned him.

I don't think a torn patellar is considered half as bad as a torn ACL (and i'm no expert on the matter but have nurse friends who work in orthopaedics). But obviously if he can achieve playing time after doing both knees it'll be a remarkable comback. If he plays it's a nice bonus because personally i've written off Baxter much like i used to with Courtney Brown. I have zero expectations from him. (You don't get disappointed that way y'see. ) Now Bentley. I've got a "Butch" Gut Feeling that Bentley dresses for opening day. You heard it here first.

This would be one of the most amazing comebacks in the HISTORY of football if he does it. Nobody has EVER come back, successfully, after blowing out both patellas. Wendell Davis tried & failed, so I'm not holding my breath on this...especially by game #1. I REALLY hope he makes it back though. Best of luck, Mr. Baxter.

I hold out optimism, but him returning week 1 is kind of a stretch.
If he is ready, how does that affect our draft? I don't know that it should affect it at all, but do you think we may not view CB as sucha glaring need and try to find one in the later rounds?
It would be nice to get an update on Bentley as well. He could very well affect our draft also.

1) Great news for Gary Baxter the person. I was worried he'd never be able to walk normally, let alone return to football. If he returns Week 1, great. If he ever returns to football, that'll be great, too.
2) I'm encouraged that he thinks he can return, but as we all know, there's a big difference between what your brain thinks and your tendons think.
3) Savage is smart enough to not let this affect the draft in any way whatsoever. Until Baxter returns to the playing field and shows he is fit to play, we're desperately in need of a corner.
4) Is what happens when you don't get a staph infection halfway through recovery?

I wish I still had NFL Network. Screw Time Warner.
IF Baxter somehow is back by week one and hasn't lost anything, that makes our defense relatively solid all-around (on paper). With Holly and that new guy at nickel, and with Minter and possibly a new draft pick coming in, we should have a decent amount of depth in our defensive backfield.
I hope it's true.
Now all we can do is pray for Bentley.

Could it be that our string of bad luck is ending? Or are we doomed for something absolutely awful on the horizon with these few bits of "good" news about Baxter and Bentley possibly being able to play in 07.

Crikey!
If he pulls that off and plays Week 1, that has to be the greatest rehab I've ever seen. Everyone talked about Carson Palmer last season, but that would pale in comparison to see Baxter playing. It's a shame our man LeCharles isn't going to be there with him.

I think if Karma exists, that the Browns have earned Baxter and Bentley both coming back this year. We are so due for something to go right with this team. Those 2 returning healthy and ready would go along way to improving what we can do this year.

1) Glad he is doing very well... like seriously... that is amazing...
2) Even if he comes back on day one, teams will TRY HIM OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!! just to see if he's healthy.. could be a bad thing, or a good thing...

I agree entirely.....I don't see how he could possibly play anywhere at a level that he did before, and he wasn't an elite player as it was anyhow. As soon as the injury occurred, I chalked it up as dead money where he would be given an injury settlement this year. If he plays, that's great....but I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm glad to hear that Baxter is feeling so good. That's very nice.
I am not all that excited about it though, because I just think the guy is very overrated. I think his coverage skills are well below average and he isn't the hitter that we heard he was. Signing Baxter to that obscene contract was one of Savage's worst moves.

I understand that,,, but what Baxter did was damage both legs,,, that makes recovery difficult. There is history on this injury.
A Chicago Bear WR whose name excapes me at the moment had this happen to him.. he sat out I think it was 2 years., When he came back he was not even close to the same and it ended his career.
I'm almost positive it happened to someone else prior to that, but I have even fewer details on that one.
I know there have probably been medical advancements in the treatment of this injury, but geez,,,, its still amazing

I caught that last night around midnight.
Great story, but to echo some earlier comments, I am not going to hold my breath.
If he can make it back, that is only a bonus. I wouldn't let that get in the way of drafting a corner in a few weeks.

Agreed Peen.
He cant be depended on for anything other than a nickle back as far as the way we buildthe roster. He hasnt been able to stay on the field since we got him .....why wouldwe depend on him now.
I am happy for him though and hope he has some football left.

Wow I am untterly amazed that Gary could get this far so quickly after blowing out both knees. I can't hold my breath on him starting day 1 that would just be setting myself up for disappointment and I don't need any more of that with this team. It would be fantastic if he was able to start day 1 or at any point this year.

This is incorrect. The average time to come back from this in the NFL is 2 years+ while an acl is a one year injury.

(as posted by Ballpeen) I wouldn't let that get in the way of drafting a corner in a few weeks.
I feel like its Wright in the 2nd.
If Baxter can just play at or near his previous level it makes great spot duty and depth.
Its a HUGE plus!!!!!!
Lecharles i feel is gonna be on the field come week 1 but maybe not at playing speed or strength till mid season.
You dont have to win every game just the next one!

What a story that would be if he made it back and was essentially the same player he was before the injury.
I don't think Baxter is as bad as some make him out to be. I think this would be a very big boost to the secondary, assuming he's the same guy.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Almost everywhere i go i'm finding evidence to the contrary. Like i said i'm no expert but know a lot of people in this field. The whole reason i got thinking of this by the way is i've recently had a re-construction myself and one of the options for the graft is to take it from the patellar (about a third of it) so i figured, how important can it be?

CB Michael Waddell is expected to be sidelined for up to sixth months after injuring his right patella tendon.
Now this guy:
Quote:
Detroit Lions receiver Germane Crowell will miss the rest of the season with an injured left knee, compounding problems for the NFL's only winless team.
Crowell will have surgery as soon as Oct. 23, Detroit coach Marty Mornhinweg said.
Crowell tore the patella tendon in his left knee while jumping for a pass in the end zone in the 27-24 home loss to Tennessee. He caught four passes for 65 yards, including a 46-yard touchdown catch that gave Detroit (0-5) a 14-6 lead in the second quarter.
Had the Surgery in Oct 2001.
He went on to play the following October for the rest of the season.
Kailee Wong of the Texans tore a patella on October 17th 2005. He was activated for the Jags game 1year and 5 days later.
I believe Bentley's time out is the exception not the norm but obviously you have to factor in the dreaded staph infection I'm just not seeing 2 years + for this injury.

I think it also depends on how bad the tear(s) is/are. He may have just gotten a minor tear in both, while Bentley may have destroyed his and ruined some cartilage.
