jc I once heard a joke (Not that funny, but eh), where an old man sees a kid texting and lambasts the kid about how reliant the kid is on technology today. The kid then yells at the old man saying something along the lines as, "not as much as you are." while pulling the plug on his life support thing. Again, not very funny, especially without a real build up, but I'd like to think it makes a point

I don't like cutting grass and weed eating, so I don't. I pay a crew of Hispanics to do it for me.
That's approaching blasphemy in the Arch household. I love to mow. My wife loves to mow. My daughter asks quite often if she can mow. I've even hidden the mower keys from my wife before, just so I could mow.
But, I do understand your point.

If I don't mow, it doesn't get done right. Nobody else is gonna use the weed whipper with as much precision. Nobody else is going to reset the mower height for the invading patch of neighbor's Zoisia grass, so the lawn looks uniform. Nobody else is going to edge the sidewalks and landscaped spots with as much care. For me, it's therapy... and- I don't have to spend the entire week wishing I hadn't spent money on results that don't meet my standards. 'Peen's concept isn't lost on me, either. I'll gladly pay others to do jobs/tasks I don't want to do. One of my favorite overused lines is: "Someone else can do that. Hey- I'm a middle-aged man... with a job."
"too many notes, not enough music-"

Me too, it was cheaper than the cost of my time, storing a mower, gas, oil, maintenance, etc. being I can't have a shed in my neighborhood, storing all that stuff in my garage increases it's cost to me. That and it's 95 degrees in the summer, and I'd rather be out riding the motorcycle than mowing the yard.
Used to pay someone to take care o the pool to, but all 3 sucked so bad the pool turned green 3 days after they would be there, and 1 didn't seal the pump right and burned up my motor. In the end it takes me like 5-10 minutes on a Saturday, and the pool never turns green anymore, and it's maybe $10/mo in chemicals, versus the $55 for a service. Worst part was the vacuuming, but I got a self-roving vacuum to solve that problem. We have a screen cage so skimming is very seldom needed.
But I still maintain my own plants, plantbeds, etc.
We don't have to agree with each other, to respect each others opinion.

It is kind of funny how previous generations made things like the microwave, the bigger television with remote control, the computer, the gas powered weed whacker, and a whole host of things designed to make life easier... then they whine that future generations have things too easy because they actually use them....
That's because those things are ours and I don't want to share!!
