People are getting way to happy about his return. I bet that if he can play he'll only be 70% of what he was last year. It will not be until 2008 until he will be anywhere near 100%, if he ever gets that healthy.
I still say his career is over as a CB.

You never know,, an ACL tear used to be the end of your career at one time. And now players are coming back in 8 months ready to go physically. Modern surgery isnt standing still. They are continually improving what they can do. Either way Id say most people are just happy for Gary the person. With any possible return to the field just a little icing on the cake if it happens.

And by then, he'd be getting slow as a CB any way. I say, if he is going to make it back, it has to be as a safety.
Let GB start getting used to it now , and grab a CB in the 2-4 round.
If he does play, SJ BP JH GB as safety. LB DH DM and any combination of 2 "roster players" or "drafted players", at corner/safety.

I understand that,,, but what Baxter did was damage both legs,,, that makes recovery difficult. There is history on this injury.
A Chicago Bear WR whose name excapes me at the moment had this happen to him.. he sat out I think it was 2 years., When he came back he was not even close to the same and it ended his career.
Not sure who you're looking for, but I'm almost positive Corell Buckhalter had a torn patellar tendon and missed 2 years, and that was one leg.

Just to add to that, Buckhalter is about as snakebit as Courtney Brown, he'd already done an ankle and tore an ACL before the Patellar tear. Practically every article i found said he was EXPECTED back after 1 year. One article i came across said he'd recovered after 1 year but re-injured the same knee in training camp just prior to the next season, hence the 2 season absence. He was back....just not for long.

That would be the best news of the off season. Sure hope he's right. We could sure use him. He's a hard player and hard players get hurt. If he comes back, I'll have his jersey.

I would be elated to see him on the field this coming season.
If Gary is 100% nine months after TWO torn ACLs and TWO torn patella tendons... he is on stuff that Barry Bonds only dreams about.

I wish him luck and all but this is the same guy that said he was healthy and ready to play after his pectoral injury and was hurt again(same injury) the first game out. He has wishful thinking. I can appreciate his dedication but just seems to be talk. Keep trying PBU......maybe you'll play again someday. I hope you play for us soon.

man.. Gary Baxter is an unbelievable man.. I admire his hard work.. WOW!! almost speechless after that interview.. and then the fact that he is still trying to help others and give back...
I hope Baxter comes back healthy and 100% ready to take on any WR/TE/RB who comes his way... Would love the fact that he would be able to stay and play for this team..

It's a great interview. Heck, if he played for any other team, even the Steelers, I'd be pulling for his comeback. I know a lot doubt him but I have a feeling he's going to prove some people wrong. And if you heard, he's taking names of the people who said he can't come back.....so get ready to have Gary knocking on your door come Sept.

I know...i'm really disgusted at all these nay sayers in this thread.....and we wonder why we suck so bad....cuz we don't have players motivated like this that is the big problem.....i just watched his interview on NFL.com.....and i don't care if he makes it or not as long as his attitude rubs off on some players...we r truly belssed to have players like bax,k2,BE who WANT to play and be playmakers for this team...we need these players.. this is truly inspiring story......i wish him the best....i hope he comes back and proves everyone wrong!!!

Just watched the video, and I have to say I was very inspired. I believe we will see him on the field come Sept. A very good friend of mine had a grandson in the same hospital at the same time that Gary was in. The kid had an operation that removed almost half of his brain. The operation was a success, thankfully. While he was there Gary came in and visited him on a number of occassions. It inspired the young lad greatly and I believe helped him in his recovery. My hat is off to Gary Baxter. You Gary, like the kid you helped, WILL BE BACK, BETTER THAN EVER . Thank you, Gary

Yep, the Browns are losing because fans on a message board are not doing back flips when a player might come back from an injury.

Yes, we are.
We are truly blessed to be paying Baxter an obscene salary even though he has hardly played. We are even more blessed because he was getting lit up when he did play. In fact, Cutch pretty much followed the other team's top WR all over the field, while Baxter covered the 2nd WR. Truly blessed. Can you give me an Amen?!
We are truly blessed that K2 injured his knee in an off the field incident. We are blessed that he just had more surgery. We are blessed that he was more concerned w/making the Pro Bowl than winning games at the end of the year. Yeah folks......that's a new tidbit for you. Can you give me an Amen?!
And I saved the best for last. We are truly, truly blessed to have picked Leon # 3 overall. He wants to win so bad, that he is late for practices and meetings. He didn't learn all the plays. He doesn't know where to line up. He tells coaches and teammates who try to help him to "[censored] off." He ignores the directions and suggestions of his head coach. He bad mouths teammates and the organization and loves making commercials and TV shows about himself. He drops passes and runs poor routes. Sometimes, he doesn't even run his route. Then, he goes off on the sideline about other players not doing their jobs and says he is a passionate player........Gawd.........We Are a Blessed Team. Praise the Lord! Hallelujah !!!

and for the record, you can't call an AAFC Championship a NFL championship.
and for the record, the last time they won was 64.

Versitile made the comment that The Browns finished in fourth place more times than not. That is inaccurate. period Versitile is a whiner. Stick with the team or get the hell away. Tired of all the belly aching. It's ok to have constructive critisism, and maybe he is doing it in his own way. I'm a fan. I don't like losing. As a matter of fact I hate it. BUT, I also sent in the money for my tickets once again. And I'll be there every home game cheering them on to hopefully a victory, and if Baxters there I will cheer all the louder. There.... now I'm off my soapbox. Go Browns.

There is this feature on the message board called "Ignore this user" It can be turned on if you choose not to want to listen to his whinning. All you need to do is click on the users name.
We would all do things different if we were the General Manager. Verse has his beef with Savage, as do others, that does not prevent us from being fans.

When you look at Baxter from a non-personal view i can understand where Vers is coming from. Do you know how much he got paid to come to us the first year Savage came here from Baltimore. I thought from that beginning point that it was stupid as he had a history of being burnt. From then on, he's really done absolutely nothing for us. He's gotten injured two seasons in a row and has not lived up to the money we're throwing at him.
In some ways i'd rather throw him a settlement than paying him his full salary this year to come back and be on the bench. Baxter's got a lot of heart/seems like a fine man, and unfortunately he came here and had nothing but bad luck (he didn't have injury issues in Baltimore). But in some ways i'd rather cut our losses than have him this year play for us without a restructured contract...
He must love football because i doubt he'll ever be a starting caliber CB ever again. He must have lost some speed
It's just really frustrating to see our number 1 free agent of two years ago never produce for us, period. and then the number 1 free agent of last year injured in training camp.
Gary Baxter could be a great guy, but unfortunately he's done nothing to help us with this 6-10, 4-12 record

What did he say that was innacurate? How much has Baxter contributed on the field since he's been here? Great guy? Yes he is. The poster stated as much.
But what does that have to do with him earning the cap space he's eating and his lack of production on the field? Nada.
I know a lot of motivated, great guys. Should we pay them millions to sit on the bench as well? Your posting on raw emotions./ Some of us go beyond that and look at the reality and business end of the game. This isn't a charity and all "feel good". It's a business.
If people can get over their emotions, put them out of the way and be a little more realistic, maybe they could see that.

Don't take this as a knock on Baxter, but... If he is taken off IR and he goes back onto the field and it's determined that his ability is lacking can't he be cut? Wouldn't that free a ton of cap space?

National Championships? This isn't college football. Regardless, that is not the issue, because Phil Savage and Junior were not a part of any winning season.

Inaccurate? The Browns were in 4th place both years under Savage, were they not? Since the new Browns came back, they have finished in 4th place more often than not. That is the time period where I could have been in Brown's management. You were the one who brought that up. Remember? It was your idea of being witty and insulting at the same time.
As far as you questioning me as a fan. Well..........I've had season tickets since the early 80s. Two years ago, I moved over 700 miles away and kept my season tickets. I come back at a great expense to support the team as often as I can. I've supported them w/my money and time and they haven't won an NFL Championship since I've been rooting for them. And some little punk like you calls me a whiner and tells me I'm lacking as a fan. I'd really love to meet guys like you and Buck and have you tell me that to my face.
