As for the rah rah cheerleading types, I don't think that works at all.
There's a difference between being saddled with a leader that nobody has confidence in, and choosing a leader because he's a Rah-Rah kinda guy. Totally different things. If you don't have confidence in who is leading you, that can and will affect morale.
Conversely, however, a guy simply being a Rah-Rah type isn't going to accomplish anything. It might look great in cut spots on TV and make for good sound bites, but in the end, if your motivation isn't coming from within you will NOT remain motivated. Period.

I don't think that is inconsistent with what Purp and I are talking about at all. I view what you are talking about as leadership, not motivation...
