Bobby Rainey - RB - Browns
Browns claimed RB Bobby Rainey off waivers from the Ravens. Rainey spent much of last season on the Ravens' practice squad before getting promoted in October and injuring his knee. He rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries (3.9 YPC) this preseason. Rainey will be the No. 4 back in Cleveland behind Trent Richardson, Brandon Jackson, and Chris Ogbonnaya.

Link also says the Browns claimed RB Dennis Johnson off waivers from the Texans.

I like the style of back we're trying to add. Some were clamoring for Dwyer, but he isn't what we need IMO. These two will battle it out.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Who did we cut to make room for Johnson? Obviously axing Davis made room for Rainey...

Maybe one of the Linemen? Or do we have another kicker we can cut?

Patrick Lewis - C - Browns
Browns claimed G/C Patrick Lewis off waivers from the Packers. linker
Still no word on who we let go, would be two now.

In addition, we have to release the guys and let them pass through waivers before we could sign them to the PS.

He's eligible to be signed by us from their PS ... so clearly they at least liked him.

We really aren't scrambling for any starters or rotational players...outside of KICKER that is. Just a little upgrade here n there for young depth. I doubt we sign any veterans - just up n comers that we had an eye on that got picked up by other camps or since camps started we scouted and liked a kid here n there knowing that a team was deep in that position.
By the numbers I am pretty sure we need more than 4 CBs...so we will probably add a kid that we will perceive better than Wade who we cut. But I doubt we go for a Veteran that will step n as a starter over Skrine. I could of course be wrong but that would be not be the MO that our new FO has shown.

Of course, but the report says he was claimed, which means he could not have landed on GB's PS first. So, conflicting reports, but seems like Lewis is a Brown for sure, just not sure if claimed or signed later, as the claiming period has expired

Speaking of PS: nfl.com has P.Lewis as a PS for the Packers:
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000237146/article/practice-squads-for-all-32-nfl-teams
Interesting. However, I believe our claim of him precedes their signing him to their PS, because players must pass through the waiver wire first before signing to the practice squad. So while GB expected and probably had a deal in place when they cut him, they will not get him since we claimed him.

Rainy was the back at Florida with Demps right? And Dennis Johnson played well when Knile Davis was out...I was hoping for Dennis Johnson or Ronnie Wingo as UDFA anyways :-) I see Rainy and DJ as a clear step above the back we cut from Youngstown State...Rainy maybe to play in the Dion Lewis mold? DJ prolly a depth move

Profootballforcus scouting report:
Bobby Rainey, RB – Baltimore
Grade: +3.1
Snaps: 68
How he impressed: Rushing for less than 4 yards per carry during the preseason, Rainey’s surface numbers don’t jump off the page. What does, however, is that Rainey forced 11 missed tackles in just 26 total touches, and did not fumble. The young running back possesses a build and style similar to Maurice Jones-Drew, and he served as a workhorse in college at Western Kentucky. Don’t be shocked to see Rainey make his way onto a team in need of a quality backup running back. He may even be able to start in this league at some point.
Possible Fits: Cleveland, Oakland

j/c..
You guys are overthinking this Kicker thing.
We're not settling for FG's. TD on every possession, go for two. Average about 70 points per game.

Dennis Johnson will be a strong candidate to be our KR this year. Nice signing along with Rainey.

According to Mary Kay we have made 6 waiver claims today ... Lewis and the 2 RBs are known ... 3 more to come.
We will need to cut 5 more people I believe.

Maybe it is because I am paying more attention, but it seems like the waiver wire is more on fire this year (across the league, especially us).

Some wild stuff going on here. I'm surprised at all of the moves. I'm really intrigued by these moves. Is this our FO being crazy, or does it just seem crazy because were so used to status quo bad... ?

Really liked Fort but he's always seemed more of a fit for the Cover-2 4-3 scheme than the one we want to run. Good luck to him though. Will be interesting to see how these pickups pan out.

?
This. I don't recall things going down like this in previous years.
I know Dwyer is not a Lewis replacement, but I'm disappointed we didn't go after him. I think there is room for another thumper, and I was impressed with him in Pitt.
LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

Right, can't claim a guy off waivers and put on our PS.. But you can move guys on our roster to the PS to make room for guys coming in off waivers.. which is what I was thinking..

Dwyer? No Thanks! Last thing Browns need is Mr. Fumbler. Browns grabbed a good thumper in Bobby Rainey.
