This is not the thread for bickering. Asking for clarification etc.. that's cool

OK.. pre-season is in the books. Browns were 3 - 1 (Big whoop) Anyhoo.. IIRC, the 53 man cut is tonight.

Lets hear your season predictions, your analysis of the Browns going into the season opener vs the fish. Take a look at the different units.. DL OL QB RB and so forth..
Discuss our schedule.. that will certainly play a part in our record this year.

Tell us how you think we'll do and why.. how will we be different from Shurm's Browns?

If you think Banner / Lombardi / Haslam will factor into the won loss record.. I'd like to hear it

Looking forward to hearing from you Dawgs..

Record: 11-5, AFC North Division Winners
Playoff Record: 1-1, Lose to Denver in second round of playoffs, just barely 27-23.

Breakout players: TRich, Weeden, Gordon

TRich stats: 1,400 yards rushing, 60 catches, 500 yards receiving
Weeden stats: 3,800 yards passing, 31 TDs, 14 picks
Gordon stats: 72 catches, 1,200 yards (in 14 games)

5 Surprises Predictions:

1. If Weeden goes down, Hoyer will be next man up, and we won't skip a beat on the way to 11 victories.
2. Haden will not reach All-Pro status (probably wouldn't be much of a surprise).
3. Sheard will become household name. Will outplay Kruger and Mingo.
4. Phil Taylor becomes All-Pro.
5. Ward will play all 16 games.

Bonus surprise prediction: We will go 5-1 in the division.

Giddy up. Pin this to your wall boys and girls. You will look back with eery curiosity and wonder how I got it all right.

6-10.

Give it a 3 game swing in either direction. 9-7 best case, 3-13 worst case.

Unfortunately, we're going to win just enough to keep us from getting Taj Boyd or Teddy Bridgewater. Our DB's are suspect, and I don't think our LB's are great at dropping into coverage. We're going to get torched through the air on a regular basis. I have these visions of AJ Green jumping up and making catches while patting Buster Skrine on the head ala Benny Hill. Our games will be much more fun to watch this season.

My head says 6 - 10. My heart says 9 - 7. A lot depends on those first 4 games. Starting out 0 - 4 would be hard to come back from, especially for a young team having 2 of first 4 games in the division. I would be satisfied with a 2 - 2 start to the season, giving the team confidence to build on.

10-6......2007 all over again....

Except we make the playoffs this year and surprise everyone by advancing to the Super Bowl---where we get blown out when Weeden implodes...as is just our luck.....

@ NYJ - W...Jets will be in the tank

Everything goes right? 12-4

Likely? Anywhere from 6-10 to 9-7. My gut and Pythagoras says 7-9. We'll win at least one game we probably shouldn't (my money is on @Minnesota) and lose one game we should win (I'll say Buffalo).

I have us somewhere between 7-9 and 9-7. I'll split the difference and go 8-8.

Really? 0-16?

Why? This team should be improved over last year's group, and the coaching staff is definitely better. Why would you expect them to go winless?

Because I don't want to have any expectations. I have been disappointed so many times it's hard to have high (or even medium to low) expectations and then have them missed every year.

If I expect 0-16 any kind of success is gravy.

Aha. Might as well expect 5-11 then ... because that's kinda what we've got each year anyway.

Ive been analyzing the league the past few days and it looks as if the AFC has a lot more dud rosters than the NFC. Teams like the buccaneers at least have Revis and Goldson on defense to make them decent. We are in the worse conference with teams like Buffalo, Jacksonville, the Jets (all teams on our schedule) and that makes me think that we have a chance to snag a number of wins. My bet is on 7 wins. This team will either surprise us with refreshing competitiveness or will disappoint us with some poor performances.. but i expect to see a team that looks a lot better than the Shurmur Browns. even if they only get 1 more win.

I look at our schedule and I see only 2 teams that have more holes...Jags and the Jets. Now I see use winning a couple more to get to either another 5-11 or 4-12. Our secondary is scary bad...worst in the league IMO. We do at least have a coach that looks like he will actually be going for TDs than field goals.

9 wins. Best case

I think we will have a O that can move the ball and score points, and a D that will get off the field enough to allow the O several more series per game.

6 and 10, progress but not enough for the fans. Weeden will be blamed and we'll pick a QB next year.

OR

10 and 6, we'll make a playoff run and just miss a wild card finishing behind Cinci in the division.

OR

Heck I don't know... let's just watch and see.

Offense

Basically, this year comes down to Weeden (as we all know). If he is able to make accurate throws under pressure and consistently get the ball to the correct spot (without staring down his target), then teams won't be able to focus on Trent. I feel comfortable enough with our OLine (this could change with one more injury) and I think our WRs are upgraded with Bess and another year of experience for Benji/Little/Gordon. I am a little wary of our TE, but if Cameron stays healthy I'll feel better. I actually see our offense as improved ... but that isn't saying much.

Defense

I think our DLine is the strength of the team. We have some sick depth at that spot (what a far cry from a few years ago). Our OLB's also show some promise because we'll be able to keep guys fresh, which is important down the stretch of games. I still disagree with the Mingo pick, but if he's used in an isolated spot he'll succeed. Our secondary is the biggest weakness of the team. I am absolutely disgusted that we are starting Skrine. Owens couldn't beat him out? That's a bad sign. McFadden also showed next to nothing this preseason, which didn't sit well with me. In the end, I see the defense as having some very good games and some shaky games (a lot will depend on our ability to stop the run on 1st down and get enough pressure on 2nd/3rd down).

Miami - LOSS - I have a bad feeling that many are underestimating the Dolphins. Plus, it's the opener.
@ Bal - LOSS - Tough game. They'll be at home and coming off a loss.
@ Min - LOSS - AP will have a big day on turf.
Cincy - WIN - We always split with them.
Buffalo - WIN - We somehow control Spiller.
Detroit - LOSS - Their offense is too dynamic.
@ GB - LOSS - Perhaps the toughest game of the year.
@ KC - LOSS - They are being underestimated by many people. They have weapons.
Bal - LOSS - Their young players will be improved.
@Cincy - LOSS - We always split with them.
Pitt - LOSS - As always they appear to be on the down swing, but Ben and their D do it again.
Jax - WIN - Easiest game on the schedule.
NE - LOSS - This is a tall task.
Chicago - LOSS - They will be fighting for the playoffs and Forte/Marshall are too much.
@ NYJ - WIN - They stink.
@ Pit - LOSS - They'll be fighting for the division and/or playoffs.

I didn't expect the number to be this low, but I'll say 4-12. I expect it to be between 4-6 wins ... Our talent is better than our record, but get ready for Bridgewater/Boyd if at all possible.

I see 7-9, 1-5 in the AFCN. Wins are Miami, Buffalo, Det, KC, Pitt (here), Jax, and NYJ. We could go to 8-8 with an upset win at home vs Cinci. I think Balt and Cinci are the class of the division, with the Browns and Steelers duking it out for third place.

7-9.. split in the AFCN

Offense is going to start off slow. But by the middle of the season, we'll know if Weeden is the man or not.

Defense is how we'll win most games. I think we're gonna like Hortons D at the same level we hate Pittsburghs D.

TRich will have 1400 yards.

I think I like it but I don't want to get my hopes too up.

I'll play...

Miami - W: I predict we finally get the home opener win we've been yearning. 2 similar teams make it a close game, won on the final possession.
@ Bal - L: On the road in their house, I think we lose this one, but we've been playing them well even with poor coaching. The really big question is, will Weeden be a schlub when the rush starts coming?
@ Min - W: If we contain AP to around a hundred yards we can make this a close game and win it late. I think this is a surprise win on the road, coming off a loss.
Cincy - W: On paper this is a loss, but I think we beat them at home. We play them tough, and though they have gotten better, so have we. So much depends on Weeden and his ability to read Ds, find the open man, and stand up to pressure.
Buffalo - W: This could be a trap game, short week, but I think we win it, but it's much closer than it should be.
Detroit - W: Momentum carries us into this game and we beat Detroit.
@ GB - L: We play them tough, but lose, they are too talented and too well coached.
@ KC - L: We lose another road game and KC is turning into a surprise that will only lead to fan disappointment as Chokey blows another playoff push.
Bal - L: Another tough fought, well played loss to the world champs.
@Cincy - L.: Cincy at home making a playoff push gets the win.
Pitt - W: Here's where the tide starts turning in this long fought rivalry, we beat them soundly in their house.
Jax - W: Another win at home against an inferior team.
@ NE - L: A loss on the road against a well coached team is closer than most people think.
Chicago - L: This is a heartbreaking loss at home, a close game the Bears win by a last second FG.
@ NYJ - W: Coming off the loss we steamroll this pathetic team.
@ Pit - W: We finish strong, beating our arch rivals in a very close game.

With no preconceived notions prior to looking at each game individually, I come up with 9-7, and figure it could go two games either way, 7-9 to 11-5. I'm happy with anything in that range.

GO BROWNS!

I honestly believe that much of our season hinges on Weeden's ability to stand up to pressure and perform well against the rush. This, in my mind, may be his greatest short falling. I fear that his age leaves him feeling vulnerable, and that he tends to "panic" when pressure comes. My hope is that experience and good line protection help him to develop the confidence to stand tall and find the open man when pressure is collapsing the pocket.

I believe its possible to go 3-3 in the division, Pittsburgh is going to be horrible, and there is no reason we can't beat Miami, Buffalo, Detroit, Jax, and Chicago all @ home and get road wins @ K.C., and @ NYJ, thats a possible 10 wins with no outside the division upsets, I have alot of hope this year and our schedule is part of that hope ... This team will go no better than 6-10 and that is my prediction.

To many question marks and too little depth.

How will Weeden progress and improve? He had a decent preseason but that doesn't mean a whole lot.

Can Trent Richardson stay healthy and be effective?

Can our receivers be effective?

We have no depth on the offensive line (at least not at tackle). We need Pinkston and Lauvo (Spelling?) back, bad.

Can Jordan Cameron stay healthy and be reliable?

While I think our front 7 on defense will be a major strength our secondary is a major question mark.

I hated our draft.

I think our team will be competitive and will score more points, but there are just way to many things that can go wrong, and too many question marks.

6-10 and picking.

MIA - W.................Horton unleashes the Dawgs.
@ BAL - W.............Distracted, the players and fans are still celebrating SB win well into 4th qtr.
@ MIN -W..............No Percy H = too 1 dimensional.
CIN - L...................Tooo much talent for Haden to cover by himself.
BUF - W.................Tuel much pressure by Horton.
DET - W.................Brownies pay back Suh. Weeden gets flagged for roughing the DL.
@ GB - L................Not this year. Not in GB.
@ KC - W...............Ray's D really starts clicking.
BAL - W.................The Rats really start missing leaders Lewis & Reed.
BYE
@CIN - L................Still tooo much talent for Haden to cover by himself.
PIT - W..................Finally.........the Stools are on their downturn.
JAC - W.................Close game. The "gimme's" are always difficult games.
NE - L....................Belicheck has Lombardi in his back pocket.
CHI - W.................Trestman's team struggles down the stretch.
@ NYJ - W.............Webster's rewrites the definition of turmoil at the end of this season.
@ PIT - W..............Their house, our turn.

12-4, and eventually 15-4, but in reality, no worse than 8-8.

There are an awful lot of double-digit win predictions for a team that - on paper - is looking more and more like a squad that's punting it to next year.

My guess is 7-9.

I really think 6-10, but I think coaching improvements will bump it a little.

I don't really know what to think. I think this squad and certainly the coaches are better than the teams that went 5-12, so I added some wins. And pythagorous chose 7-9

Exactly. I do see some areas that we've improved (I think our DLine, pass protection, and Trent are areas of real strength) but I also don't see us winning more than we lose. I'm leaning towards 4-5 wins, and if we'd win more than 6 games I'd be shocked.

If that is all we achieve, I'm predicting a fan revolt. That few number of wins is unacceptable; 7 wins would at least indicate that we are progressing.
