I just noticed something that took me by surprise. The Indians finished exactly 1 game behind the Tigers. The Tigers won 93 games, and the Indians won 92. We finished with a winning record both at home, and on the road.
This team has struggled against good teams, but they do seem to be peaking at the right time. Masterson stepped in and really settled the back of the bullpen.
Speaking of Masterson, how about this? He threw the first, and final pitches of the season for the Indians. That's pretty cool.

Quote: Unless prices have gone up, you can get into a regular season game for $8 correct?
In my case add in parking, turnpike fees, gas and food. One trip to a game will set me back at least 120 bucks and cost me a vacation day from work so I can attend, so the chances of me attending more than 1 or 2 games a year are slim to none. But I have been a huge Tribe fan since before most of the people on this message board were even alive.

Not 100% sure, and I think others can probably fill you in more, but if you try to walk up and get at ticket, it's more expensive than buying beforehand.
I think walk-up is an important part of baseball. I think you should be able to just head down to the stadium on a whim, and get a decent seat. We didn't get that in the 90's. Indians tickets were gold back then.
Dynamic pricing seems like a bad idea but maybe someone with better knowledge can educate me a little better on it.
you are exactly correct. the Indians use the dynamic pricing model. I believe it's $20/bleacher, $28/upper deck the day of the game. they advertise it as such and everything too.
if you buy your tickets early, you can get those $8 upper deck / $10 bleacher tickets. it is extremely commonplace now for MLB pricing (proven to get more $$$, though not necessarily more people).
I personally don't like it. I'd reserve a section out there for cheap walk-ups even if it's standing room only or something. But, it is what it is.

as far as actual baseball, I love that we are giving it to Salazar. he's a rookie, but Texas/Tampa have never faced him, he has the best ERA of SP on the team, a blazing fastball, and we have guys to come in and relieve him if needed (or he reaches his pitch-limit).
let's go extra innings in the Texas v. Tampa game to tire them out now!!!!!!!!
Quote: I think I read on Twitter yesterday that Texas is holding out Darvish?
he has some injury issues. i don't think they'd pitch him on short rest Wed. Ogando might be the matchup if we get them.
Possibly Garza?
I watched Texas all week, and they have caught unbelievable fire, but for all ripping done by people about the Tribe's easy schedule the last few weeks, the Angels played an abysmal series. Errors all over the place, horrible pitching. The only thing they did do well was score runs.
National writers ripping the schedule because the Tribe had an easy finish sounds like sour grapes because their Yankees didn't get in and they couldn't carry over the Mariano lovefest into October.
Texas played a weaker schedule overall compared to Cleveland.
But, the AL East did have a harder schedule. But, we are talking about a 1-3 game overall "expected" difference on the year. We finished 6 games ahead of the NYY.
If you have noticed, the calls about that schedule have silenced the last week as the NYY fell and the Indians/Rangers/Rays all kept winning.
Old, bloated payroll, and entitled fanbase is no way to go through life
While on Facebook I saw quite a few people complaining about the wildcard game prices. Someone said that $45 was insane for one game. Maybe it's just me, but that's a deal and a half for a 1-game playoff game.
I guess it's a moot point, the Jake is sold out.
Does anybody know if today's game will be televised? I can't find it on the schedule. Maybe I don't really care, I just hope it goes 19 innings.
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”
Bought my Wild Card game tickets and will be making the trek to CLE from Nashville for this game. I went to game 7 of the World Series in St. Louis two years ago and the winner take all aspect of a game like this makes for the most magical moments in sports.
No way would I be content watching this game from my couch.

To be fair, the Tigers haven't exactly been trying the last week of the season. They just go no-hit by the freaking Marlins of all teams.
I know that you're somewhat kidding, but if that were the case then all I could say is that they're idiots, because they finished 4 games behind Boston, and 3 games behind Oakland , winding up with the worst of the divisional winners' records. That means that they will not get home advantage unless they wind up playing the eventual WC winner in the ALCS. They went 5-5 in their final 10 ...... and they could have taken over one of the top spots with a few more wins.
I know that you're kidding .... but the Tigers had a lot to gain be winning

I emailed Terry Pluto about that. I would've went to more games, but they never sold the seats in the upper deck along the lines. Cheapest seat was the bleachers at $15, upper deck at $21. I tried to buy those cheap seats weeks in advance, but they were never for sale on their website. Terry said he would relay my message to the VP. Don't know if he did or not, but maybe they will change that for next year. The Pirates sell their cheap seats every game for $12. I work 35 minutes from pnc park.
he's not kidding. they gave rest to many of their players and guys like Fielder were obviously not caring once they clinched.
and, honestly, being on the road vs. Oakland compared to at home isn't that big of a deal as WC teams proved forcing the creation of the WC-playoff game.
The Tigers are 1 game better than us on the road ..... we are 1 game over .500, and they are 2. Oakland has a better home record than the Tigers do.
I think that I would rather have 1 more home game against them than 1 more road game.

ARLINGTON, Texas — David Price threw a complete game, Evan Longoria had a two-run homer among his three hits and the Tampa Bay Rays are in the playoffs again after a 5-2 win over Texas in the AL wild-card tiebreaker Monday night.
The Rays face another do-or-die game Wednesday night at Cleveland in the AL wild-card game. Tampa Bay is in the playoffs for the fourth time in six seasons.
Price (10-8), the reigning AL Cy Young winner who had a 10.26 ERA in four previous starts at Rangers Ballpark, struck out four and picked off two runners.
Even with the return of All-Star slugger Nelson Cruz from his 50-game drug suspension in the Biogenesis case, the Rangers missed a chance to get to the playoffs for the fourth year in a row.
Texas had won seven in a row to force the majors' first wild-card tiebreaker since 2007.

Heard that the Rays were going to pitch Alex Cobb. He is 11-3 with a 2.76 ERA (per mlb.com). He is a 6'3" 190# righthander. Anybody know more about him? Did the Indians face him earlier this year?

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- In late July, neither Tampa Bay right-hander Alex Cobb nor Indians righty Danny Salazar was active with his respective major-league club. Cobb was on the disabled list recovering from a concussion; Salazar was in the minors. But they comprise the pitching matchup for the A.L. wild-card game Wednesday night at Progressive Field.
Here are Cobb and Salazar at a glance:
Alex Cobb
Age: 25
2013 review: He went 11-3 with a 2.76 ERA in 22 starts of his first full major-league season, third overall. Gave up 120 hits in 143 1/3 innings, walked 45 and struck out 134. Lefties hit .235 against him and righties .217. ... Was 4-3 with a 2.70 ERA in nine road starts. ... Missed 50 games because of a concussion suffered June 15 when he was hit in head by liner from Kansas City's Eric Hosmer. Returned Aug. 15 and went 5-1 with a 2.41 ERA in nine starts, including 3-0 with a 1.16 ERA in the last three -- against Texas, Baltimore and the Yankees.
Career vs. Indians: He is 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA in three starts, including one this season. On April 6 in Tampa Bay, he allowed four hits in 7 1/3 innings of a 6-0 victory over Trevor Bauer.
Scouting report: He threw 43.4 percent fastballs, 23.6 percent curves and 33 percent changeups, according to FanGraphs. Only one qualifying pitcher in the majors, teammate Jeremy Hellickson, used changeup more. Fastball settles in the low-90s and features late action; changeup thrown with splitter grip. His 72.6 ground-ball percentage would have led majors if he qualified. Rays manager Joe Maddon tabbed him to start wild-card game because of the repertoire and a competitive nature "in the elite category.''
Notable: Since Aug. 1, 2012, he is 18-4 with a 2.87 ERA in 33 starts.
Danny Salazar
Age: 23
2013 review: He went 2-3 with a 3.12 ERA in 10 starts of season/career with Cleveland. Gave up 44 hits in 52 innings, walked 15 and struck out 65. Righties hit .237 and lefties .216 against him. Batters were 4-for-33 with runners in scoring position. ... Opened at Class AA Akron and was promoted to Class AAA Columbus on May 12. Made MLB debut with Indians on July 11 against Toronto, allowing one run on two hits in six innings of a spot-start victory. Walked one and struck out seven. Returned to Columbus, then came back to Cleveland for start Aug. 7. ... His 65 strikeouts are most by a Tribe pitcher through his first 10 career games in the last 57 years.
Career vs. Tampa Bay: First appearance.
Scouting report: He relies on a mid-to-high-90s fastball, changeup and slider. Fastball has hit triple-digits. Has been able to get hitters to chase fastball above belt. Generates velocity from smooth delivery, thereby not sacrificing command. Uses a splitter grip for the changeup. Secondary pitches have been a work in progress, but he said he has made strides with changeup in recent starts. Indians manager Terry Francona tabbed him to start wild-card game because of repertoire and unflappable demeanor.
Notable: At 23 years, 263 days on Wednesday, he will be the youngest pitcher to start a postseason game for Indians since CC Sabathia (21 years, 84 days) in the 2001 American League Division Series.
Quote: Just wondering what folks are anticipating tonight for attendance and crowd rowdiness... the Pirates fans set the bar pretty high last night..
It will be loud. Yes, the Pirates haven't had a playoff game in 20 years, but the city of Cleveland has not had a playoff game since Lebron lost to the Celtics. That seems like 20 years ago.
The Captains gave away a bobblehead this year that plays this song. It sits above my desk at home and I think I've killed the battery in the past two weeks.

I got chills thinking about what it would sound like to hear Tom Hamilton call a walk off, World Series winning HR for the Tribe.
Oh man ...... that would be a perfect end to this magical season.

It would be a lot more fun to win though. Go Tribe!
