I remember when we took him back in 2010 in either the 2nd or 3rd round (I can't remember exactly which) after he missed his entire senior season at North Carolina. Their were other receivers still on the board when he was picked (Eric Decker and Jimmy Graham off the top of my head).
I keep reading about how he works really hard and had a great camp but man the guy really just isn't a game changer. He's a good blocker in the run game, but he just completely disappears in games. He had that catch on our first drive, and I don't remember him having another until late in the 4th quarter.
Not just this year, but a lot of last year too, and the drops are really hard to watch as well.
I'm at the point where I really hope we spend a high draft pick on another receiver next year, and hopefully can sign a good veteran receiver in free agency.
To me Little is no better than Massaqqoui was, at least MoMass caught the ball and was fairly reliable as a receiver, he just couldn't stay on the field due to health reasons.

I would be wrong to argue this either way at this point. He played really well down the stretch last year. It's only one game, Brandon Weeden sucks.
But yeah, he doesn't get a lot of separation, doesn't have great hands and doesn't seem to have a high football IQ. Basically he is the anti Brian Hartline.

I have literally no expectations going into any game for Little. Any play he makes I always consider a nice surprise. I've never liked his attitude in games or out and he clearly isn't the smartest dude around.
He's tough and can make some nice plays but he's not what I would consider a prototypical WR. He's a RB who has some WR ability.

I don't thin that he's a #1 receiver, but that doesn't necessarily make him a bust. As stated above, he did play well down the stretch last year.
That said, on Sunday he couldn't get separation against Patterson, the guy we cut last year. That's scary. He caught 4 passes for 26 yards. That's abysmal.

I'll say he's greater than Brian Robiskie but lesser than Calvin Johnson.
Is that specific enough for everyone?
In all reality, I wouldn't call him a bust ... but I will say that I'm concerned that he hasn't been as consistent/productive as I'd hoped.

Not at all, However, he is not a number one receiver that's for sure. Lets see how he does when Gordon comes back. I think all the receivers will benefit from a no#1 type receiver on the field. We are still looking to fill this roster & reciever is definetley one of those positions. Maybe, one of our you guys, Gurely, Copper will step it up.
If I only knew then what I know today...

This guy drops more passes than Perez almost blows games, and when he does make a 8 yard catch it's a major celebration.

This was my first thought. Pretty much all we can do, right?
But shouldn't unreliability make you a bust just as much as flat out sucking does in the NFL? If it feels like the chance of Little catching the ball is only 50-50, doesn't that equate to not good enough and in need of replacing? I'm thinking yes.
If it continues when Gordon is back, sit Little down on that bench. Put in Cooper, Benjamin or Gurley. Any combo that works best.
Disappointing having this conversation after Little had such a great camp. Unfortunately, that was camp and this is game time . . .

1000% YES
For where he was drafted he is a bust. I wouldn't be upset in the least if we just cut him and moved on. Put some of these young guys in. Gurly and Cooper both look like much better prospects at this point.
As a second round pick starting the third year of his career he should be much more consistent. He was a converted RB playing the WR position and as such was an "experiment". I think we can all say without a doubt that the experiment has failed. He is NOT a WR.
I'm ready. He is a B U S T. Next man up.

I understand that our WRs leave us all searching for answers but Gurly? Really?
We've seen this guy play against the scrubs in preseason, he's bounced around all over and hasn't caught on and couldn't even make it onto OUR roster of wannabes.
Now he's the answer?
I agree that he has nice size and and can catch (from the little bit we've seen), but can we hold off on the "gurly for president" talk?

LMFAO Okie doke. This team has wretched talent. We're picking up other teams cast-offs faster than you can blink....and geniuses on here want to cut some of the "little" talent we actually do have. That's priceless... and guaranteed to get us better results than last Sunday too! No I didn't love him when we drafted him. Yes he's a converted RB. No his hands aren't great. Add that up and he's NOT a #1. But he certainly has enough talent and athletic ability to be a #2 or underneath guy who can get YAC (that's why we drafted him ya know). What he needs is a true #1 opposite him who can draw the coverage away from him. If he gets that, like what happened at the end of last season with Gordon, he can excel. If the defense can key on him as our #1...well you get what you saw on Sunday. The real question is if Gordon is our true #1 like he flashed last season or not. If he is, our receivers are fine. If he's not, yeah we still need to find one. Also for that reason I fully expect Little to have another rough outing at Baltimore.

He's not a number one receiver, but he wasn't drafted to be one.
I think in a perfect world, he's the guy raking in numbers because of attention drawn to a better WR.
Regardless of who's suspended or who's throwing him the ball, he has to play better than he did Sunday.

I see it from both sides... when your #1 goes down it makes it harder on your #2.. but shouldn't the #2 step up and do MORE when the #1 is out instead of disappearing and/or doing less?
I'm not ready to call him a bust, everybody agrees he was never intended to be a #1 WR... but he has got to elevate his game and be more consistent or his time is short here...

This pretty much sums it up for me. We can't expect him to fill in for Gordon and do the same thing JG does (be a #1). It's not Little's fault that Gordon is an idiot.
This doesn't totally excuse him from his last showing.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

First of all Jimmy Graham and Eric Decker were both taken before Greg Little - 1 year before - they were both taken in 2010, Little was taken in 2011. Ironically, Little has only 19 fewer receptions and 432 fewer yards in 14 fewer games than Decker...
Going to the actual year he was drafted (2nd round, #59 overall), There were 28 receivers drafted in 2011, 5 before Little, and 22 after Little. He is 6th in yards, 3rd in receptions, 3rd in targets, and 7th in TDs in his class. Sounds to me, with the QB's he's had throwing to him, he's about where he's expected to be based solely on the draft (not fan expectations). While I don't consider him anywhere near elite, I wouldn't consider him a bust either.
This class includes these players drafted before him: A. J. Green (1st round, #4 overall - 53 more receptions, 71 more targets, 1187 more yards) Julio Jones (1st round, #6 overall - 22 more receptions, 12 more targets, 851 more yards) Jonathan Baldwin (1st round, #26 overall - 77 fewer catches, 123 fewer targets, 803 fewer yards) Titus Young (2nd round, #44 overall - out of football) Torrey Smith (2nd round, #58 overall - 15 fewer catches, 8 fewer targets, 406 more yards)
The three players drafted before him with better numbers are all playoff teams...
And these notable players drafted after him (75+ catches or 1000+ yards): Randall Cobb (2nd round, #64 overall - 6 fewer reception, 75 fewer targets, 55 fewer yards, playoff team) Jeremy Kerley (5th round, #153 overall - 30 fewer receptions, 76 fewer targets, 196 fewer yards) Denarius Moore (5th round, #148 overall - 29 fewer receptions, 20 fewer targets, 20 more yards) Cecil Shorts (4th round, #114 overall - 58 fewer receptions, 93 fewer targets, 333 fewer yards)

I wouldn't say he's a bust. But I certainly agree that he hasn't lived up to the hype our fans hoped for. I feel that's half of the problem. We don't necessarily look at what a player is to determine our opinion, but more what we feel he should be.
And I'd like to address this notion of Gordon coming back. Are we talking about the early to mid season Gordon we saw last year? Or are we talking about the Gordon of the last 5 to 6 games of last year that produced very little?
In both cases, it was two separate seasons for both of these WR's last year. The first half of the season, Gordon looked great, while Little couldn't catch a cold. The last part of the season, Little's hands were very dependable and Gordon had very little production.
So far as I can tell, which version of Gordon we see in week 3 is a question mark. And only time will answer that question.
As far as Little being a 2nd round pick........ Once you're a starter in the NFL, the only reason to mention where someone was drafted is to make some point about who drafted them. Do I feel it was a great value for the investment? No. But at this juncture he's simply a WR in the NFL. The last half of last season shows some reason to feel he may be able to be productive. This past week? Well I guess if you value one game over the last half of last season, you may have a point.

Those stats are pretty interesting and I had never looked at it from that perspective.... but while I see your point, I don't think expecting him to catch the ball when it's thrown in a catchable spot is too great of an expectation. Because "drops" is the one stat that you don't list in all of your research... and I'm guessing that his are at the top or darn near at the top of the list.

Yeah, after I closed the spreadsheet that I was using to calculate, I thought about looking at reception/target ratios...but it was too late. Drops info I didn't have, and same with INT when targeted - both would be interesting to see. And the question was if he was a bust, not if he was under-performing

Good lord. It was one game. New system, hyped up YOUNG players. I am not saying that I am extremely optimistic about the season, but I think it is foolish to base judgement on players after one game.
We are the 2nd youngest team in the NFL and we have a completely new focus and system in place. We are not a playoff team, that needs to be understood by all. The thing we are looking for is progress and improved play on both sides of the ball. If we see that, then we have to look at this season as a success. The problem is, we will see glimpses of it early, but how we finish is the key.
Bottom line, be patient folks. It's gonna be a long season full of highs and lows. Where we sit at the end of the season will determine where we stand for the future.

I look forward to commenting on this thread again when Little has a standout game this year.

I'm not saying that he could be the answer to all of our problems ..... but UDFA types come up fairly frequently in the NFL.
Heck, look at Victor Cruz. Undrafted in 2010, and he's salsa'd his way to the Pro Bowl.
Lance Moore was signed by us as an UDFA back in 2005. 311 catches and 36 TD passes later, he's still going strong for the Saints.
It's about time we get a major break like that. Maybe Gurley can be that guy for us. It's a nice dream anyway.

Is this the first server crashed bump?
I noticed something odd today when re-reading those stats.
What is with the gigantic differences in Little's reception to target ratio?
Obviously Little has some drops, which I don't know exactly how many account for the difference adding in other players...
But has Weeden been that innaccurate throwing to Little?
Look at Randall Cobb. 6 fewer receptions with 75 fewer targets. If we account for all of Little's drops...that still has to be a mountain, maybe 50? of balls thrown his way that were deemed uncatchable or defended. I may be reading the specifics wrong (beer is involved), but it sounds like out of everyone on this list Little has a huge percentage of uncatchable balls. The difference may be as simple as Rodgers vs. Weeden, or perhaps Little doesn't fight or run bad routes, but that statistic really sticks out at me.

Cobb is a better receiver and I wanted him at the time of the pick, but in defense of Little, he also played a lot out of the slot with much safer, shorter routes due to his stature whereas Little played outside and vs no1 WR some too until Gordon established himself. That has to be accounted for too. Top CBs have a much better comp% against then nickel or no2 CBs
Little has been a huge disappointment so far this season, but I think he has the work ethic and motivation to become more consistent and reach his full upside, which imho still is that of a pretty decent no2 WR. If not, he can still be a valuable big body slot guy. He has some pluses (body/toughness + position versatility + blocking), so he's not another Robo or Massa who were AVG at best even in their best tools. He has flashed late last season, so the potential is there. It's all about becoming more consistent and regain some trust in his own abilities
I would not trade him now that his value is at its lowest. If you can't get a Top 75 pick for him, which nobody would offer right now probably, then just keep him.

I have been thinking about this a lot, and I almost would like to see the Browns have Little add 20# and move to TE. He might be the best blocker on the team, and he could tear up most LB and S. His speed would be good for a TE, where it is lacking for a WR. He would never have to face a team's #1 or #2 CB ever again. Combined with Cameron, we would have a devastating 1-2 combo there.

good idea!
I think that Little is 800 yards blocking specialist type WR with Gordon getting 1200 yards a year. If he accomplishes that... he's not a bust, he is a steal. Especially considering he was taken as the 5th WR.
Hunter + Dart = This is the way.

I like the idea, but hands are hands.. He drops too many. Unlike Jordan who seems to have glue fingers.

The thing is that Little would face more zone cover as a TE as opposed to having a DB draped all over him in man. He could also get more easy throws, as opposed to having to catch the ball over the top. (which he has said he is uncomfortable with) He would be an excellent jump ball guy in the end zone. (which he is very comfortable with)

He just needs to get his head back in the game like he had it at the end of last season.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
