CANTON TWP. They were like bacon and eggs. Lee Owens recruited Charlie Frye to the University of Akron and coached him four years.
Three autumns have passed since they were together, but Owens remains as interested as any observer in whether Frye has lost his sizzle with the Cleveland Browns.
Now the head coach at Ashland University, Owens shared some of his insider's view Monday following a speech at the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club.
Owens has watched Frye at Cleveland Browns Stadium when he could. He has been in Frye's home, where they have watched game film.

So all the Browns need a QB talk is BS? Crap? Has it not being discussed by the Browns in depth and at legnth? Is it not the topic of countless many in the know and not? And none of this talk is becasue of CF perfomance or lack ther of? How can anyone here or anywhere blame the Browns WR's for being primarily responsible for CF areas of improvement, inabilities, interceptions, TO's, mental mistakes??? How many bad balls have gone as incompletions, dropped picks, throw aways, when not needed??? All players make mistakes. Especially young players. If you are a fan or claim to be a coach you should know this... To make excuses for players is idiocy. To accuse others here of fabricating information when you aren't capable of proving them off base or innacturate is weak BS... Some of you ask for literal sources, links, hard concrete facts from others because you are too lazy and incapabple to do so for yourself... Or you don't read, watch, study or know. Others here think they can never be wrong, don't care about what others think or know... You can't learn anything if your pie hole is always spewing your single minded drivel and your ears don't get the opportunity to do thier jobs... For many of you know it alls; imagine if you were listening this is what you'de hear... You don't know jack... Just like the rest of us... If you did you wouldn't be here... bcoach, If you've got somthing to say say it to me, say it to me

LOL, maybe you should take your own advice. I couldn't respond to you because after you made such an absurd statement, you aren't worth a reply. No one needs to open their minds to statements that are beyond ignorant and simply false. To say that every WR runs the wrong routes, rounds off routes, and lines up in the wrong places as often as the Browns WRs did this year is simply absurd. This was well reported on when it happened. Vers posted on the other thread where a WR ran the wrong route 19 times in one particular game and (IIRC) there were only 35 pass attempts in that game. Now, I challenge you to back up you absurd statements with facts. Name ONE other team with that kind of pathetic WR play. You won't because you can't, but it won't stop you from spewing more ignorance and insults since that's all you can bring to the subject besides your "nuh uh" response.

Same crap different day... Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah... What does any other teams positional struggles have to do with this subject? Nada... All teams have them... You don't blame the QB cause the kicker can't kick, cause a DT jumps offsides, cause a coach can't coach... CF's issues are his... The teams issues are theres... Every player makes mistakes. Period. All WR's make errors, run the wrong routes. Period. I make mistakes all the time too. You do too... Just like the one you're making on this thread... Your perspectives are not always correct and sometimes are wrong... Just like mine and everyone elses on here... The difference between most and you is the others here admit it. Until next time... Take care hang in and enjoy!

I'll pose to you the same question I asked asked Attack that he hasn't answered yet. In the past 20 years, name me 3 ELITE QBs that have been successfully behind an atrocious o-line.

Again, name ONE set of WRs that run the wrong routes over 50% of the time. Explain HOW that doesn't have an affect on the QB. You saying it has no affect doesn't prove it doesn't. Here's a simple one for you to explain, if it's so obvious. If a play calls for the receiver to run an out pattern and he runs a go pattern, how does that not affect the QB? Again, you saying something doesn't make it so. I have stated why it affects the QB, as it makes him hold the ball too long to ensure the WR is going to run the right route. You claim "all" WRs do it. Back up your OPINION with some facts. Until then, you are just arguing to be arguing with nothing to back it up. Like you said, though, "Same crap different day... Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah... " Nothing to back up your false statements other than you saying them.

Stop "Twistin' Soupy...
He SAID...If we took Russell or Quinn it would be an UPGRADE at QB...
And it WOULD BE...Both these guys are a better TALENT than our 3rd round QB...
I fully understand where you're coming from...But don't confuse Talent Upgrade with Production cause of the OL...
Go Browns!!!

Nothing is being twisted. First, Russell isn't an upgrade over Dorsey let alone Frye. However, the reason people ALWAYS avoid the question is because you cannot determine anyone to be an elite QB until they have a line to work behind. We don't know what we have in Frye and don't know what we'd have in Quinn - we do know that without a massive upgrade there will be no discernable difference. So way pick Quinn when we have a chance to fix the root of the problem?

You do know that Dorsey is highly intelligent and is there to help teach the others the finer points of breaking down film, correct?

This is for Toad as well:
what you two are saying is it'd be better to have Frye, Anderson and Russell - 3 really young guys without much experience in anything let alone film breakdown - than to have Frye, Anderson and Dorsey. One of which is noted for his smarts. I see Russell as a complete downgrade to the QBs mainly due to the fact that he brings no knowedge with him.
You can talk about upside all day. I believe in the rgith way to build a team, FIX the o-line, then put a QB into the proper situation to develop. Otherwise we will continue to spin our wheels. If Thomas and Russell are available and we draft Russell over Thomas it will be as big a mistake as drafting Warren over Tomlinson. Quit avoiding the problem and fix it. Can QB be upgraded? Sure - it can be on 99% of NFL teams. But then you lose chemistry and continuity and leadership. It's much smarter to finally fix the line and do what we've avoided since 99.
Fact: It is an extremely rare occasion that the 3rd QB hits the field on any team - when he does, the team isn't going anywhere anyway. Three teams who's 3rd stringer hit the field at some point this year were Cleveland, Oakland and Tampa Bay. Remarkably those teams have 3 of the first 4 picks in the draft. We aren't in a position to use a pick to upgrade the 3rd string QB talent.

Russel is the most overrated player in the draft. He DID come out of nowhere based on a few games. The questions that surround him are very critical ones.
But let's ignore the obvious on that folks..........
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

If I may interject,,,
Soup, I actually see where you are going with this,,
If I read you correctly, you are saying that at least in the BEGINNING, Russell is actually no upgrade because of a lack of experience and knowledge of the NFL game,,, not the game in general! Do I have that right?
If so, I agree, there is a learning curve associated. But the upshot of this is that in the end, if Russell is what he's been purported to be,, if indeed he is the next stud QB, then in the long run, it's a major upgrade,,,
Just that today,, from day one, he's not any upgrade....
Am I reading you correctly here Soup?
