The Brownie Elf, the drumline on the sideline, and the flag in the dawg pound. Three new elements I saw yesterday that are now parts of the team moving forward. I like it. I think the elf will be the "new" logo of the team starting next year with the unifrom re-design, the drumline will add some atmosphere to the games every week, and the flag in the dawg pound is the least exciting of the three. What does everyone else think? Now, we just need some cheerleaders like every other team in the league. I feel like we've had an Amish family running this team until now, they've been way behind the times with possessing identifying aspects like many others around the league.

I like the elf idea over the dawg idea ... as far as the drumline/banner I could care less to be honest.

My dad joked that maybe the Browns banner was a way for Banner to subliminally put his mark on the crowd/team. Interesting.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I'm glad Brownie is back. While a little goofy, if we can start using him as a way to explain the odd things that happen in a game to help with win, like it's "elven magic", so be it. Could be a fun, harmless gimmick going forward. And really, it adds a little flair to the franchise.

I like the fireworks addition as well. The people that work at the stadium are A LOT friendlier as well. They have certainly improved the experience IMO. I like the changes thus far, but I'll throw all that away for a consistently winning football team!

What is people fascination with cheerleaders?

In high school I can see it, small stadiums, hormonal kids. But in the NFL, I have never paid much attention to the cheerleaders at games I have ben to in Miami and Tampa, my focus was on the games. It is not like you can hear them cheer unless your in the first 15-20 rows.

I have never thought my game experience was lessened or increased by the presence or lack of cheerleaders.

Really?

NFL cheerleaders are much less about "cheering" and much more about PR.. going to the dinners, meeting folks before and after the games, going to golf tournaments and car dealership grand openings, giving the camera guy something to focus on before and after commercial breaks...

They don't do much at the stadium except for the select few sitting right in front of them, they don't help you win games, but they don't hurt either.

Every team but ours has cheerleaders. I don't even look at the cheerleaders during games, it's just a matter of falling in-line with the NFL norm. It's weird that we don't have them.

"all the other teams have cheerleaders" That's why I don't want them. All the other teams have a Logo on their helmet but we don't need that either. How old are you? Who cares what all the other teams have! It's like you're in High School, but Mom, all the other kids are doing it!!

Wow, I guess I'm an immature brat with no self-esteem because I want cheerleaders for my team. How dare I broach such a ridiculous topic in your presence. I apologize and hope I'm still worthy of being a Browns fan.

I'm thinking you need to invest in a pair of glasses

Serously, I've been against any sort of change to the uniform, the addition of a mascot and cheerleaders.. Sticking to my guns on those subjects haven't done a thing to improve the team.

So I am abandoning my beliefs on those things. If they want the elf,, so be it. If they want Cheerleaders, I'm good to go with that. If they want to change the uniforms, fine. (although, keeping the colors would be wise IMO)

If it makes the experience better for those attending games, I'm all for it. They pay a bundle to be entertained. They deserve a show.

I really don't care either way, since I just ignore them at games anyway, was just curious for those that want them what they expect to get from it? Do they really plan to watch them? Or is it just the eye candy and the desire to see what you will never have?

Took my 13 year old son to a Cavs game when we were in Cleveland back when LeBron was there... he met a few cheerleaders on the concourse before the game, bought the cheerleaders calendar, had a bunch of them sign it and give him hugs....... he can't tell you who won that game, but he still has that 2009 calendar in his bedroom.... In marketing, I believe they call that "branding"...

Then we should definitely have cheerleaders because we haven't been a REAL football team for almost 2 decades.

+1 this will obviously sound strange coming from a man but I don't want to have half naked woman on the sideline of the Browns..is it gonna hurt, No, but don't see the point.

I don't really care that much about any of that stuff, I'm just glad that what's taking place on the field is better than what we've watched lately.

I would take cheerleaders, just because cheerleaders are awesome. I don't care about being "different" than anyone else, because when you're good it doesn't matter, and when you're bad, it also doesn't matter. People pay attention most when you have an exciting team. If they choose to stay cheerleader free, that's fine too. It's not that big of a deal.

I do want to call BS on them saying they were going to upgrade the music in the stadium. It still sounds like the same old played out classic rock.

Has anyone noticed an upgrade in cell service at FES? I know that was one change they really stressed. That was one off the field thing that really made things horrible. It's really tough to meet up with people down there when you can't even make a simple phone call.

I heard GB did have them.

The Cleveland Browns could change their colors to a different shade of orange and brown. They could change their secondary logo from the block B inside a football.

At this point, all we know about owner Jimmy Haslam's plans on a new look is that the helmets will remain the same and any change to the uniforms won't come until the 2015 season. Haslam had initially thought of unveiling a redesign for the 2014 season, but he told ESPN Radio in Cleveland that he has opted for an extensive, 24-month process recommended by experts in the field of brand marketing.

“I think we’ll have a better idea of what we want to do after that,” Haslam said. “This allows you to change anything you want. That doesn’t mean we will. I want to be perfectly clear about that. We just want to get a lot of input from our fans and take our time with it. Because you can do it only every five years.”

Haslam is making a wise decision to conduct a thorough study. He obviously wants to put his stamp on the team, from a new decision-maker to a new coach to a new name for the stadium. But you have to be careful when you're dealing with the tradition and identity of a team. Whether you like them or not, the burnt-orange, seal-brown uniforms have barely changed since the 1940s.

If you remember, our friends at Uni Watch did a fine job of offering some suggestions on the redesign. This will become an increasingly hot topic in 2015 when Haslam plans to make this unveiling a major event around the draft. Changes in uniforms and logos always generate a great deal of buzz. But the best way to sustain that interest is putting better players in those uniforms.

How does the team have anything to do with quality of cell service at the stadium? I'm curious, as that seems like it would really be a function of whatever cell provider you have.

They said they were going to work with the cell companies to add a tower.

Being able to keep up with other scores, check your fantasy team, and also use social media should be a part of the experience. Especially since the NFL waters down their product with commercials after every freaking possession.

It's something they talked about during the summer when trying to improve the experience.

My buddy actually does this for a living. Teams contact his company to come into a stadium and map out where the cell tower boosters will go and layout the wi-fi system. It's very much a thing teams are doing to provide a better experience for the fans.

The Bears did a huge upgrade just this past year. Season after season I'd just turn my cell off while at the game. I couldn't check fantasy scores, receive calls or even send a text message. A few weeks ago at the Vikes game I was able to load the redzone channel on my phone, upload multiple pictures to Facebook and receive likes/comments from the post during the 2nd quarter. I was very impressed.

As for cheerleaders, I think they're worthless. Even the "what's wrong with having 12-16 hot women in skimpy outfits on the sideline" theory. It's a waste. They provide nothing other than taking up space. And this includes the NBA and NHL (Blackhawks have ice skanks that clean up the rink).

Cheerleaders work in college sports. I get it. They're students at the university and it's part of the atmosphere. But in the pro's, if your job is "professional cheerleader", I don't know what to say. Buy a ticket and cheer with the rest of us.

The improvements/traditions are better and a step in the right direction but there are still a few I'd recommend:

1. The scoreboards could be bigger. The screen should somehow have all other live scores running along a "ticker" or something similar.

2. Better FFL updates somewhere. It drives me crazy how they currently show updates. QB, WR, RB all get about 4 seconds for the top 10. But for kickers, they show about 4 seconds for PATs and then 4 seconds for FGs. Essentially, kickers in FFL (arguably the least valuable position in FFL) get twice as much "screen time" as anyone else. I swear, every time I look up there, they are showing kicker stats. Why show kickers at all? Ugh! Maybe if they get the Wireless sorted, I can just look on my phone but it's easier to just move my eyes to that stadium screen during a timeout.

3. They should do something with section 343. For those of you who don't know what i'm talking about, this is the top-right west end-zone section, opposite end from the Dawg Pound. If you sit here, you can't see the eastern half of the stadium because the 500 level upper deck stick out in front of you. Terrible, terrible design mistake. They should just remove it or put a marching band in it. Either way, fans should NEVER have to pay to sit there.

4. And Cheerleaders. I don't understand how it could be a detriment to the fan experience. The argument to have them because everyone else does isn't a good reason. But the argument to NOT have them because some other teams don't isn't a good reason either.

I could say the same thing about making sure thousands of people in the stadium have good cell service so they can stare at their phones and make tweets and check their fantasy teams during the game.... It's not something I do or enjoy, therefore it's worthless..... In the end, they are both just a distraction for an ADHD crowd during downtime in the game.... so if you can focus on your "fantasy team", why can't I focus on mine?

At least they're providing a service though. The game flows better when excess snow is removed, especially in the corners.

Touche...but with good cell/wi-fi service, I can get something better video-wise on my phone than you checking out a cheerleader from 350 feet away.

I know your response was tongue-in-cheek, maybe not your cheek, but I get your point. Good cell/wi-fi service lets me check other scores (specifically the Browns), the weather, and helps me arrange a meet with my tailgate friends.

And anyway, I've since quit fantasy football (3 years ago anyway). I know a lot of people on here are still going strong and like constant updates.

QBs and cheerleaders, they two hottest topics on this board. Funny.

Last year I was at a game and while on a bathroom run decided to get in line for food. I sent a text message to the people I was there with asking if they wanted me to grab anything for them. No reply. When I get back to our seats, they hadn't received the text. ABout 20 minutes later that text came through.

This week, I sent a text from home to friends at the game and got a reply text within 5 minutes. FWIW
