OK, let's flip the script a bit here ......
We have 2 prime weapons in Gordon and Cameron.
Who might be available that we could add at a reasonable price, that would give us a legitimate 3rd option in the passing game.
Contrary to some reports, I doubt that Larry Fitzgerald is available, and he would be extremely expensive ...... but who else might the Browns be able to trade a lower round pick for who would be a legitimate 3rd weapon, or maybe even a legitimate option at RB?

Not that it matters, but Arizona is saying the same thing about Fitz as we are about Gordon.

That's why I say that I doubt he's available. I just wonder who else might be available, who could fill that #2 receiver role.

I agree Django.
Hopefully Jordan Camerons and Josh Gordon's success make people more open to drafting freakish athletes and giving them time.

I'm still in denial that Williams lasted into the third round.

It begins and ends there. If the guy wasn't a druggie, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

Gee, another opportunity for you to bash the FO. Are you really still on that stupid crusade? You really haven't seen the light yet, or is it that you just can't admit how dead wrong you were?

which would have greater odds of happening? Gordon fails another drug test or we draft a 2nd round receiver with Gordon's ability?
Thats really the bottom line. Just think about how many receivers in this league have Gordon's ability and how many are drafted in the first or 2nd round every year.

Decent question, I guess. It's probably a toss-up. And that is probably why they would even be willing to listen.
Furthermore, if he is suspended, we have nothing. Nothing.
It's a tough call and I really don't get when people act like it's a no-brainer.

Exactly. And like I said before,a second or third round wideout is likely not going to contribute for their first year and will be maybe one year younger than Gordon. A violation only suspends Gordon for a year, and the likelihood is low that the other wideout would be as good as Gordon even after that player's first year/ when Gordon gets back.
It's taking the possibility you might lose something you need, and getting rid of it just so you have control over the situation.

Couldn't disagree with more with U Vers on 2 points ...
1. This is a HORRIBLE question ... We'll NEVER EVER find a WR with Gordon's skill in rnd 2 .... theres a REASON For that ...I mean come on .. why is this guy only getting a 2nd rounder??????? ....
He's got top 5 physical skills as far as WR's in the nfl go .... yet he's only worth a 2nd rounder?? .. cause hes what ... A 5 TIME LOSER ALL READY ... why the hell would anyone not believe strikes 6 and then 7 aren't far behind???? ...
the better question is .. will he be suspended for the year before or during training camp next year ....
2. this IS A NO BRAINER .... if we can get a 2nd for this dude ... TAKE IT IN A NANO SECOND .... and that's hard for me to say cause this guy could be a top 5 receiver as soon as next year ....
just not worth the risk .... NOT EVEN CLOSE ....

I have to disagree with you bro. If we get a 1st round offer then we can talk, but for a second round pick I would roll the dice.
I AM ALWAYS RIGHT... except when I am wrong.

Man, I am torn really badly on this.
On one hand, I would hate to be the idiot who keeps him only to lose him to yet another positive drug test.
On the other hand, it would be devastating to give him away for a draft pick, even a 2nd rounder, and see him become one of the greatest of all time.
Given the way he has played in most of our games so far this year, I would be inclined to keep him. I just don't see us getting value back in return. I would want, at least, a 1st round pick, and let's face it, no one is going to pay that price. I don't want to give away his potential for some 3rd round pick. I am willing to live with the risk of a ban if the alternative is a 3rd round pick, or lower.
In short, trading him away would be done only at fire sale prices. If we could get a 1st round pick plus other considerations, then I would be tempted. However, for a 3rd round pick, or less, I'd pass.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

It's a total Cleveland move to trade Gordon and watch him become a future HOF. It'll be like Dallas not wanting Randy Moss. There's a reason why we're perennial losers. We like to play it safe and try to win with "blue collar" guys. I'll take elite talent over some limited try hard any day of the week.
Draft picks have become overrated on this board. People like them because of the "what if" that comes with them.

I say trade him. And I hate that. But he's one frell-up away from a year off. Use one of our first rounders next draft to replace him. We're probably not going to be in line to get the top QB anyway. The Jags have that sewed up and it's likely we won't be in line for the 2nd QB off the board either. So take a stud receiver if one is available at 5 or 6(wherever we're drafting) and hope we can take a decent QB later in the first.... Worked for the Bengals. If not we go with Hoyer and Campbell again.
The guy we DON'T want to trade is Cameron. That kid is really coming into his prime and he doesn't have the baggage Gordon has.

Randy Moss had one strike I believe. Big difference. One more Frell-up and Gordon is done for a YEAR. He's constantly getting speeding tickets and having run ins with the law. He is a ticking time bomb. I hate that he's having such trouble. He's the first exciting WR we've had in a LONG time. He can SCORE and since we can't run the ball at all he's one of our few chances to do that. But he is right on the very edge of being gone anyway. Take a WR in the first next year and if they draft correctly we'll have a stud WR to take his place.

The number of guys who have been suspended 4-6 games for drugs is a gigantic list.
The number of guys who followed that up with a year suspension is about 3.
Either everyone stops using drugs (I highly doubt it), or they teach these guys to mask their urine or when it is safe to smoke their weed. I consider Gordon at most a 10% risk to miss the season (and that is because he's been caught like 20 times).
I really don't care about it. I consider Gordon physically one of the best WRs in the league. And at 22 he has the potential to become fantastic if he improves further. People miss entire years all the time with ACL injuries etc. So what if he goes down for drugs? He'd be back up at full speed with no nagging injury and we'd have to suck it up not having our best player on offense for a year.
How is it better to lose the guy for a decade via a stupid trade than to lose him for a season to drugs?
Can you imagine if Denver still had Brandon Marshall? That would be insaaaaane.

I was thinking the same thing...why give the guy up for good when he would only be suspended for a year...makes no sense. Guys with his skill don't come along often...especially to the Browns.

when have we ever held a FO blameless
Really as you say they are in a corner and sad to say they really have no control on this one, it's all on Gordon.

I said almost that very thing and I was schooled. It's not as easy of him having a year off. it's that he may not ever get back. He still has to pass another drug test and will be tested A LOT going forward and he has to apply for reinstatement.. It's not as easy as, hey,, he was booted on October 29th 2013 so he can come back on Oct 29, 2014.
No guarantees

It's not even this FO's fault.. They were handed the issue. Honestly, I have no reason at this point NOT to trust this FO. So if they keep him, fine with me, if they trade him,, so be it.

I'll take a guy with a drug problem over a guy with a knee problem any day.
If Winslow had been smoking pot instead of riding motorscooters we'd probably be better off for it.
Look at guys like Benjamin and Hoyer. Sure they'll likely be back next season. But will they be the same players? Will they injure the knee again?
With the number of dudes being suspended for drugs up to Gordon's stage being so so high, yet the number of players being suspended beyond there being....3...
I have a suspicion they teach these dudes how to mask their urine or when it is safe to toke up. I'd wager the odds Gordon is suspended for a year being incredibly small for that reason.

see now you have gone and clouded the issue again
I'm just glad it's not a picket fence I am climbing on.
it's a tough one... all i know is if we keep him and he drugs out or we trade him and he studs out then the FO will be reamed by revisionists and suported by apologists... actually will make for some interestng arguments
Bottom line... who the hell knows

I am kind of with everyone else and don't think anything happens today.
I know Gordon has some issues, but I will take that over the risk of getting rid of a really good talent for another risk of a 2nd round pick.
People forget that you have no guarantees with these picks. Although our past history with the draft has nothing to do with this current regime, take a look at what we've done with 2nd rounders over the years.
If we don't deal Gordon, and somewhere down the line he screws up, I will live with that.
If we deal Gordon, and he lights it up with another team, and you're stuck with having to draft and develop another WR, I can't stand by that one.
It's the lesser of two evils. I think you have to put your faith into Gordon. I'm not saying this regime can't draft guys and have the coaches develop them, but I think it's a step back in our progress if you trade him.

If a team is desperate enough to give us a 1st then you HAVE to make that trade. Same with Jordan. If you have a team like Green Bay (just an example) who lost Finley and they feel getting Jordan to fill the spot will put them over the edge to offer up a 1st then you make the deal. If not then you keep the young player.
No one is going to be that desperate so we have nothing to worry about, Josh and Jordan will be on the team this Sunday. It would make no sense to draft a QB next year and give him no weapons unless you have some extra high picks to draft weapons with him.

That's not the way it works though.
He would be, essentially, kicked out of the NFL. For good. He could apply for reinstatement to the NFL after 1 year. He would have to stay, and test, clean for the entire time he was out of the NFL. If he had a dirty test, or tests, he could be refused reinstatement.

I know it's just an example, but GB would never make that move. They value draft picks way too much.
The way I see it. even if you're beyond lucky to get a first for him, it's going to be a high first. Jacksonville, St. Louis, Tampa aren't trading for JG.
Everyone keeps talking about getting a 2, but it's going to be a 2 at the tail end. It's going to be a borderline 3rd round pick if you trade to New England, San Fran, etc...
Is that really getting value in return?

Wow. A national media-type who thinks the Browns should keep Gordon. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000...ade-josh-gordonWith Tuesday's trade deadline closing in, the Josh Gordon whispers hover in the ether like a bad fart. It's time to clear the air and close this topic down: The Cleveland Browns would be nuts to part with their ultra-talented wide receiver. Gordon -- once again -- was Cleveland's best player on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs, hauling in five catches for 132 yards and a long touchdown. With 32 receptions for 582 yards over six games, Gordon is on pace for 74 catches and 1,358 yards this season -- in just 14 appearances. All eight of his NFL touchdowns have come from 20-plus yards out, bringing an explosive element to the passing game that Cleveland hasn't seen since Webster Slaughter roamed old Municipal. "I feel like I'm where I want to be," Gordon said Sunday, per The Plain Dealer. "I'm not saying I'm playing at a superb level. I still don't feel I've reached my full potential and I'm always going to feel like that until I'm done playing the game." In a league flush with players who would rather live in San Diego or New York than along the lip of gray Lake Erie, Gordon -- who's heard all the gossip -- said: "I do want to stay in Cleveland. Cleveland is my first home, the team I got drafted to. It's a great place to be. I love the fans in Cleveland and everything about it. But business is business." So much of that business for the Browns has been in shambles since their return to the league in 1999. The franchise hasn't seen a quarterback play all 16 games as the starter since Tim Couch suffered through the task in 2001. For the second year in a row, no less than three passers have led the Browns into battle, but Gordon's numbers remain consistent. It's clear that CEO Joe Banner and general manager Michael Lombardi initially struggled with the red flags draped around Gordon, who's one positive drug test away from a one-year suspension from the league. He's not an ideal building block in that sense, but Gordon's off-field status will prevent the Browns from getting proper trade value for a player of this caliber. Linebacker D'Qwell Jackson -- with the patience of Job -- has toiled through countless losing seasons in Cleveland and hopes Gordon won't be shipped away. "Absolutely, I want him here," Jackson said. "He's a playmaker." Jackson knows how rare that is in Cleveland. Let's hope this front office does, too.

If he got his act together and started displaying a work ethic along the order of a Walter Payton or a Jerry Rice, he would be utterly insane on the field and impossible to stop.

Keep Josh Gordon! The reward outweighs the risk. We only have a 2nd rd. pick invested in him. Its not like we have never wasted a 2nd round pick...see Robo and MoMass and many others. Imagine the kick to the gut if this kid is shipped elsewhere and becomes a HOFer??? I would much rather lose out on a 2nd round pick than to take this chance.

Wow. A national media-type who thinks the Browns should keep Gordon.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000...ade-josh-gordon
With Tuesday's trade deadline closing in, the Josh Gordon whispers hover in the ether like a bad fart.
I still don't feel I've reached my full potential and I'm always going to feel like that until I'm done playing the game."
In a league flush with players who would rather live in San Diego or New York than along the lip of gray Lake Erie, Gordon -- who's heard all the gossip -- said: "I do want to stay in Cleveland. Cleveland is my first home, the team I got drafted to. It's a great place to be. I love the fans in Cleveland and everything about it. But business is business."
So much of that business for the Browns has been in shambles since their return to the league in 1999.
"He's a playmaker."
Jackson knows how rare that is in Cleveland. Let's hope this front office does, too.

I was thinking the same thing...why give the guy up for good when he would only be suspended for a year...makes no sense. Guys with his skill don't come along often...especially to the Browns.
He's not getting kicked out of the league for good for smoking weed. Guys have done much much worse and are still playing.

Ricky Williams sure tried.
Look, I don't want to trade Gordon, especially given that we would not receive anything approaching equal value for him. That does not mean that Gordon isn't in a troubling spot. If Gordon wasn't in danger of being banned, then teams would be lining up with massive offers for Gordon if they thought that he was truly available.. He has the potential to be one of the very best ever. He could help every single team in the NFL. He could be the difference between a team making the playoffs, and sitting at home.
Imagine Tom Brady with Josh Gordon to work with. Throw the ball up and let him go get it. Put Gordon on the Ravens and how much do they improve? Significantly, I bet. Imagine Gordon with Roethlisberger launching the ball for him. How about him playing across from AJ Green in Cincy? He would improve so many teams immediately, and significantly. If teams that need that big play guy to put them over the top weren't concerned about his future with regard to suspensions, then we would probably see offers approaching that which we received for the draft pick that allowed Atlanta to grab Julio Jones. He is a weapon that would turn a 1st round playoff team into a potential Super Bowl team. He would improve any and every QB. He is that talented.
If teams were not worried that eh could be suspended indefinitely, then we would hear about massive offers for Gordon. We don't though. We hear the proverbial "High" draft pick ..... but then national writers discuss a 4th that could become a 3rd. To me that's not high. That's what a marginal talent with a marginal contract brings in a trade.
Teams have to be worried about Gordon's future, or they would be lining up to trade for him. I can't think of any team that he couldn't play on. Maybe Denver. Who else though? Who else would he not be a huge upgrade for? If he would be a huge upgrade, why wouldn't teams be lining up for him if they thought he was available? The only answer is that they are concerned about him being suspended indefinitely. They aren't willing to risk significant value, the value his talent is worth, because of the risk that also comes with him.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

I don't see it happening.
Banner has come out of every trade we've made with a distinct advantage in value, and you can't really do that with Gordon right now.
They do seem overly fixated on this draft, but I would be a little surprised if he's moved.
The value just isn't there.
