EnglishDawg...there's a 25% chance you may be showing me bars next fall!

As someone who follows the Browns and wants to see them in every NFL city, this gets me pretty excited.

Link

The Cleveland Browns could be playing in London next season.

The NFL announced on Tuesday three London games for 2014, with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons and Oakland Raiders named as hosts.

The pre-determined portion of the 2014 schedule has the Browns playing road games vs. Jacksonville and Atlanta.

Exact dates for all games, including the London games, won't be announced until after this season. It's unlikely the NFL would play division games in London, meaning there's at worst a one in four chance the Browns would be selected as the London opponent for the Jaguars or Falcons. The Steelers also play both on the road and likely wouldn't be selected for a London game in consecutive years.

Teams that go to London play night games at Wembley Stadium -- a 1 p.m. Eastern Time kickoff -- and then have their usual bye the following week.

Exactly. That's actually a break if we play Atlanta in London due to their home field advantage.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I kinda hope it's not the ATL game, that was going to be a get-away weekend for me.

I know a lot of people get irate over games in London. Meh, I'm more worried about the team being good than where they're playing. And as long as we aren't losing a home game, even better.

Not to say I could afford a long European trip with a Browns game thrown in, but that's far enough away that I could save for it. It's a possibility.

Because all NFL teams have to be scheduled to play 8 home games and 8 road games. Someone has to be the home team in order to even things up on the schedule.

I'm hoping it isn't the Jacksonville game. If it doesn't end up conflicting with work, I was planning on going up there for the game.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I still don't think this answers my question.

The game can be a road game for both teams and still accomplish what you are saying.

How? You need an equal number of home teams and an equal number of road teams each week for the math to add up. If you have 2 visiting teams in the same game, then somewhere (could be a different week) you would have to have 2 home teams in the same game...

You could pull that off with the Jets vs. Giants, but that's the only game I think would work.

That is probably as close as you could get but even then, you have two completely different sets of season ticket holders, who gets the seats?

Others have answered. I'll add revenue as well. I am not sure what the split is for ticket sales....maybe 60/40..but the home teams keeps sodapop sales. I assume it would be the same set-up in this game.

Doh!

Apparently, I didn't stay at a holiday inn express last night.

Makes sense now. I wasn't really looking at the big picture over an entire season and how that would work out league wide.

Because they actually have a chance of drawing a crowd in England.

Plus, a good team wouldn't want to give up their home field advantage for one of their home games. It doesn't matter to a bad team that isn't going to sniff the playoffs anyway. Further, the gate is much larger in London than it would be for a bad team at home. (except us, where we sell out no matter how mad the team is) London generally sells out NFL games with average attendance over 80,000. Oakland is drawing 50K so far this year, with a decent team that is better than anticipated. The Jaguars are drawing 59K so far this year. I expect that to drop as the year goes by and they continue to lose. A huge home gate would be very nice for those struggling teams.

For me as a UK based Browns fan this would be so awesome. One of my bucket list goals is to come over to Cleveland to watch a game. We have 3 young kids though, another on the way, so that may be a way off but I think I could manage the 3 hour trip to London to watch my Browns

I totally understand, by the way, why some fans disagree with this staging of games abroad. However, I will unashamedly take advantage

Can someone explain this to me please? I have been to 6 Browns games over in Cleveland now and with ALL of these games the stadium hasn't been anywhere near full? I also watch every Browns game through NFL GamePass and again there are usually quite big empty areas within the stadium?

Do people really have season tickets and just dont attend? How does it work?

I was really looking forward to heading overseas for the first time for this. Guess I settle on Atlanta and a return to Nashville for my away trips next year.

Already penciled both of those trips on my calendar for next season. Never been to the ATL, so that's my new one. And Nashville is one of my favorite road trips.
