Well, unless they beat Ohio State.
This is why my 64-team Super League would work, every team plays within their division only. Maybe everyone is allowed to dip into Div1 for one game, but it would be better to standardize the schedules as much as possible.

Even if they do, it does nothing.
If you go undefeated in the SEC, you're playing for a National Title, with or without a big time out of conference game on the schedule.
Alabama, LSU, Auburn, etc. going to Ohio State or Michigan -- It's everything to lose, nothing to gain for them.

I understand you're point with being undefeated, but that's really hard to do, even for Bama. And for the most part, going undefeated in the Big10/Pac12/Big12/ACC should get you into the BCS title game most years too. My point, anything that can help build your resume is good for you. That's what most of this thread has been about..."who have you beaten?"
Assuming nobody goes undefeated next year and we're in that 4-team playoff, an SEC team's resume would look pretty good with a win in the Horseshoe.

I think that we will eventually see the Super-Conference setup, where the winners of the Championship games move on to a playoff. Actually, it would be a playoff system all the way along. (of a sort)

I agree with Top. I was also showing in my earlier post that not only do they have nothing to earn with the game itself, but they would also be allowing the Big10 schools into their recruiting areas.
Also, I am sure there is bad blood between the schools as there really aren't alot of long-time OOC games between the SEC and Big10. I am guessing that the Big10 schools at times in the past also refused to go down South for games when they had the stronger foothold on the game. Shoe is just on the other foot right now.

I've watched probably 5-6 Baylor games. I love that offense. Their defense is much improved. When they had RG3, they played little to no defense.
Phil Taylor has told me that he takes offense to this comment.

Actually Ohio State scheduled a home and home against Georgia later this decade but then backed out because of the expanded Big Ten schedule after they added Maryland and Rutgers.
The other reason is that most SEC teams already have very good non conf rivalry games scheduled year in and year out.
Florida always plays Florida State. Georgia always plays Georgia Tech. South Carolina always plays Clemson Kentucky always plays Louisville
LSU and Alabama usually play in the Atlanta or Dallas opening season game vs named teams such as Oregon, Virginia Tech, Michigan, Penn State etc...
Lets also not forget that Tennessee has played Oregon in a home an home the last couple of years. Ole Miss has played a home an home against Texas the last 2 years. Georgia has opened against Clemson for 2 years. The SEC and ACC plays the toughest non conf schedules year in and year out of all the major conferences and that isn't even close. Those 2 conferences schare quite a bit of common territory and those games have almost conference frenzies built into those games.
The Big Ten has tried to improve with the Pac 12 games. They just did not fair well in those games. They also play multiple games against Notre Dame but overall they don't add enough quality non conf wins to build their reputation early.
The Pac 12 plays quite a few games against both the Big Ten and Big Twelve to build their reputation.

That's my point.
So, your point is that FSU runs up the score on inferior opponents and Ohio State doesn't. It doesn't mean that FSU is better, it just means that they run up the score. The Buckeyes could run the ball 70 times a game and beat these teams 54-0 and cause them to control the ball for about 7 minutes for the entire game but they don't.

Who mentioned Florida State?
You said: " Ohio State gets criticized for their schedule and inability to blow bad teams away BECAUSE everyone agrees with the rankings."
I presented the scores of our last three games. We won by an average of 43.3 pts. per game. How is that not blowing away those teams?

1st of all, the video has no mention of sluggishness or anything of the sort. 2nd, the article was written by the AP and just reposted on ESPN. It was not written by an ESPN writer even though it was on the ESPN website. 3rd, Despite starting out as saying Quote:
Alabama looked lethargic, uninspired, sloppy and downright ordinary against a middling Southeastern Conference team on Saturday.
the article had an overall positive tone to it.
Quote:
And the top-ranked Crimson Tide still found a way to win by nearly two touchdowns.

Yes I do and I have great respect for what Urban has done... my only point is that what happened last year has no bearing on what the rankings look like this year... which, as a side note, is my problem with preseason rankings and early season rankings, they are largely based on what you did last year, which means about as much as an NFL preseason power ranking...

I don't watch videos on ESPN's website so I can't speak to that.
As to it being from the AP, so what? It's reprinted on ESPN as their recap of the game, so I can only assume that it represents their view of the matter, unless it specifically states otherwise.
As to the tone of the article, it's matter of fact. I don't really think that saying despite playing a really bad game ("brutal" was used to describe parts of it) they managed to win by nearly two touchdowns (which is true...13 points is nearly two touchdowns) is a glowing endorsement. Teams that turn the ball over four times often don't win at all, let alone win by 13. I think you're just reading bias into it because you want to believe that it's there.
But by all means, please show me where ESPN, or any other media outlet, is saying that Alabama rolled over Mississippi State.

Look at the halftime scores..
Cal 31-20 Wisconsin 24-14 Northwestern (losing) 20-13 Iowa (losing) 17-10
The rest were well in hand by halftime..
Now look at the halftime scores of FSU's games...
Maryland 21-0 Clemson 27-7 NC State 42-0 Miami 21-14 Boston College 24-17
In all but 2 games, FSU has put teams away in the first half.. whether they ran up the score or not after that is sort of irrelevant. I understand your point that OSU doesn't want to run up the score, but they aren't letting teams in the game in the first half on purpose.. they aren't losing to Iowa at halftime on purpose.
I really hate this because I feel like I'm disparaging OSU and that is not my intent, they are a great team and I really wish they were in a playoff system this year because I think it would make for great football... I think they would compete well with the other teams in the discussion... but if they all go undefeated and you have to pick 2, I understand why OSU is going to be the odd team out.

I think it's pretty dumb to judge teams on what they do in blowouts.
If anything, we know Ohio State can turn it off and on, do we know FSU can? Nobody has given them a game? I think that's a negative for them should they finish they way they have gone, and then have to go and play Alabama...
I just think it's petty to judge on that. We all saw Ohio State struggle against teams the year they won it all. They barely beat a bunch of mediocre/bad teams, only to pull off probably the biggest upset in the history of the BCS.
I understand they don't have a lot else to judge on, and if I were a voter, I'd go 1. Bama, 2. FSU 3. Ohio State just on what I've seen on the field, but I think the last few pages of this topic are not OSU fans making an argument for being higher than 3, but just pointing out the fact that OSU seems to be picked apart and viewed at in a negative fashion, for things FSU and Alabama are guilty of as well. Alabama not fully showing up in some of their games, and FSU having nearly as horrible a schedule as OSU. Seriously, without Clemson, Ohio State plays the tougher schedule between the 2 and FSU better hope Clemson doesn't slip up against South Carolina, or I believe OSU has a legitimate argument on their hands.

Ohio State wins by playing football. FSU executes a scheme. Also, if you're going on 'halftime' scores, take a look at the Alabama vs. Mississippi St. game. Are you going to make the argument that Alabama isn't as good as FSU because of it?
That's laughable. Purely laughable.
Frankly, I think Ohio State could very well win against FSU or Alabama. I might have to wait until next year to find out.
The only reason Ohio State wasn't in the title game last year was because it was under sanctions, no other reason. None. This year's team is even better than last year. Next year, FSU will be 'middle of the pack' at best. Where will Ohio State be? Year in, year out, Ohio State will be there at the top.

I don't even know that that means... though I'm pretty sure if Urban Meyer could score more points and give up fewer points and dominate people more using some other scheme that he would use it in a heartbeat. OSU runs the ball better, FSU throws the ball better.. which part isn't real football, running it or throwing it? Or is it the part where FSU has given up almost 80 fewer points?

Nope, wasn't to make any point about any individual game.. FSU was close with BC at half and not too far out in front of Pitt.... It was to prove a point when people said that FSU was merely blowing people out to accumulate style points and OSU could do that if they wanted to.. OSU couldn't do it if they wanted to, not to the level that FSU has done it.. and the first half scores prove it. Is it in Urban Meyer's Manual to Football Purity to be losing once in a while at halftime just to prove you can come back?

Middle of what pack? Assuming this season plays out like most expect, where Bama and FSU play in the title game, assuming its close, FSU is probably going to be the #1 team in the country at the beginning of next season because Bama is losing McCarron and has nobody with any real experience behind him and FSU is returning Winston. They have the best returning QB, top skill position players are sophomores and juniors (even if they lose a few juniors, I think they will be ok).. the defense lost 7 guys last year and got better this year and is largely led by Freshman and Sophomores, with just 4 seniors.. Depending on who leaves from FSU, there is a very good chance they will be better next year.
Now as mentioned, OSU's big OOC game next year is Va Tech, which unless they improve, isn't going to be that impressive.. FSU starts with Oklahoma State, who may finish this season in the top 10, then they play Florida in the last game and odds are they will be better than this year.. so forecasting into the future, FSU's schedule next year is already harder than OSU's unless Wisconsin or Michigan or Michigan State really pick it up and move up the rankings next year..

This is where I almost feel bad for OSU.. they did the right thing and scheduled a quality opponent in Virginia Tech for 2014 and 2015..... unfortunately the Hokies are going to be coming off one of their worst seasons in a long time so OSU isn't even really going to get credit for a quality win there.

FSU is returning Winston Ohio State might be losing Miller & Hyde (and is losing Guiton)
there are no guarantees that the Buckeyes continue this run and the odds are squarely in FSU's favor right now for who will be better next year.

Braxton will be back, but we lose everyone else. Hyde, Corey Brown, 4/5 on our o-line will be gone. Our defense will lose 3/4 of our secondary (although it's more like 2/4 since Christian Bryant didn't really play this year). Shazier and Roby are likely gone too. Good news is that the entire d-line will be back and 2 of our starting LBs will be back. Our front 7, WRs and RBs will be a strength. It's just our o-line and secondary are screwed.

Man, there are so many of you guys who work very hard at discrediting Ohio State. We have won 22 straight games. We are undefeated this year and last. I'm proud of them.
I really don't see too many posts from Ohio State fans saying we should be first or second. There might be a couple, but not many. Most of us are just saying we aren't getting much respect and are being unfairly criticized. We're proud of our team's accomplishments.
Not sure what satisfaction and enjoyment you guys are getting out of raining on our parade? Kinda weird........

For any Cincinnati fans (or people who have watched Cincy for a while) out there... Is Brendon Kay better than Munchie Legeaux? I thought he was pretty decent to start his career at Cincinnati then just vanished. He had some good but raw skills.

Baylor Rolls, OSU survives I don't know if I can post the site or not. But the point of the link was part of the bias,…the top photo and in the comments at the bottom is from the front page of espn. (yes i know it doesn't include Bama on there) btw, on a side note…yes OSU gave up a lot of points against Illinois and not making excuses for them. Just want to point it out. Illinois does avg around 30 points per game, Also OSU played without their 2 starting linebackers, a starting D-lineman, and safety (technically the safety sort of doesn't count b/c Bryant's been out most of the year, so I want to state that) for the game.

Beating an inferior opponent by 4 scores (OSU by 25) just isn't as impressive as beating one by two scores (Bama by 13).

No, I'm saying that if "Alabama is said to have rolled over Mississippi State" that surely you could provide an example. Once upon a time around here we posted links when we made claims about people saying stuff.
I take no pleasure in "discrediting" Ohio State, to use your term. I just don't become an irrational homer when it comes to the Buckeyes, like so many people inexplicably do. I've put forth my reasons for being guarded regarding them many times: I think the defense is suspect, I've never been a fan of Braxton Miller, and I don't care for the read option offense. I honestly don't understand how OSU homers can watch them give up 20 points to a team like Buffalo or 34 to Cal, or trail Iowa and Northwestern at halftime, or give up 28 points to a terrible Illinois offense, and not feel even the slightest twinge of concern.

I don't really have a dog in the hunt. My team has been out of the race for a few weeks now. That said, if I'm voting my top 3, its Bama, FSU, Baylor. Sorry, playing good teams and having signature wins matters. The weakness of the BIG 10 is hurting OSU. Sucks, but thems the breaks until next season.

Georgia played a similar game against Buffalo last year, and was literally 10 yards from the national championship.
you could also argue this year's Buffalo team is better than last year's. They really aren't that horrible of a team. Plus it was the first game of the year.

at the moment I can see that, but would your vote change if Ohio State beats an 11-1 Michigan State and Wisconsin finishes at 10-2? That would be 2 pretty high level teams, while Baylor has beaten OkieState and Oklahoma. it's basically splitting hairs there.

Difference is, UGA played a stronger schedule and still had to (hypothetically in hindsight), topple the top ranked Tide to get to said National Title.

Thats why we play the games. A lot can happen in the next few weeks. If that scenario breaks that way, OSU moves up...to 3. Unless Auburn beats Bama. Which is not far fetched.

ok, but then why do you have Baylor ahead of Ohio State now? I see them pretty much tied (so I'm not flaming here - I can see people going either way). Baylor has beat 2 loss Oklahoma. Ohio State has beat 2 loss Wisconsin. Noone else on either resume is very appealing.
Baylor plays OkieState this weekend in Stillwater (and temps will be in the 20s). If they win that game (and Ohio State doesn't have the MichSt game yet), then I see why people would put Baylor ahead (at least for now).

I just give the slight edge to Baylor because the Big 12 is slightly less . than the Big 10. but, as said, we still have 2-3 games to figure it out.
