Yep, Maryland is a bubble team this year more than likely but they have a top 5 recruiting class coming in next year.. a good mix of guards and a 7'1" big guy.. In years past I would have said they should be good in a few years but with the way freshmen produce these days, they should me considerably better next year. I was joking with some guys at work the other day... told them exactly what I said above and then said, Maryland will be a 18 win team this year then they'll be a 25 win team next year and people will say see, we told you the Big 10 couldn't play basketball.

I understand that everyone gets a little home cookin' ... We do too. They don't call it CorRUPPt Arena for nothin'
But my god, there's no where worse than Chapel Hill. This is pathetic.

You can say what you want about Calipari, but anyone who has watched him coach knows one thing he doesn't do is complain to officials. For Calipari to get a T, you know it's bad.

Hopefully OSU fans are watching the Buckeyes. They are a REALLY good team right now. Matta has done an awesome job developing his bench this year. Sam Thompson doesn't count, but ADV and Marc Loving are finding their niche. We NEED Trey McDonald to progress if we want any shot at a Final 4. If I had to guess around tourney time Sam will get serious minutes. Loving and McDonald will get spot duty minutes to give guys a break. I like ADV, but if he's not shooting I don't see why we have him on the court. Our starters will be very well rested come tourney time.

Having watched Maryland go into Duke and Carolina for over 30 years now, I just consider that you have to start every game as if you are already down by 10... I'm sure Kentucky and some other places probably get the same treatment...
On one hand, I get that they are typically very good teams who make a lot of their own breaks, on the other hand, they also get the benefit of the doubt a lot.

We're probably better this year than last. Lost Thomas, but as you have said, we are deeper on the bench. Aaron Craft will go down as one of the all time buckeyes. Is winning % is off the chart, and the guy is a model student and citizen.

Wonder when John Calipari starts to take some heat in Kentucky.
He hasn't been quite the same since winning that National Title.
We haven't beaten a Top 25 non-conference opponent in 20 months. (Last one was Kansas in the National Title game)

He won his title because of MKG and Anthony Davis. At least he got the job done with his superstars. Granted Conley and Oden usually would have too if they didn't have to face that Florida team.

All pre-conference games.. I wouldn't worry so much about that since you have a new starting 5 every year.. what I would worry about is having a new starting 5 every year.. it really is rolling the dice and the fact that it worked once might have been a fluke. The team needs veteran leadership and it's never going to have any...

I think this Ohio State team is going to be better than the past two Buckeye teams.
Yes, we are lacking the superstar----Sullinger and Thomas----but in my mind, those two guys often bogged us down. They slowed down the tempo and demanded the ball. I am not knocking them too much, but they bogged down our offense.
This year's team is deeper. They are more athletic. They spread the ball around more. We will move the ball faster. This will create more open looks for our shooters. Guys will not stand around as much.
Guys like Scott, Thompson, and Ross have improved and their athleticism will help us become a better team. The big goof in the middle won't be as bad, but will someone please help learn how to catch. The freshman from Toledo is a player. The backup big man will contribute. We are deeper. More athletic. Not as one dimensional.
We are better.
We are Ohio State!!!!

I agree with you.
We also have better shooting. I love what Marc Loving is doing right now. Him and Sam Thompson give us a TON of flexibility in rotations. ADV likes to rebound so you can put him at SG or SF. I worry about two things right now: rebounding and FT shooting. Come tourney time guys will fight for rebounds more. I think they want to conserve energy. A problem we have is a lot of Big Ten teams are more guard oriented. Just look at Sparty and Wisconsin. They run the EXACT SAME style we do of 3 guards and a stretch 4. Michigan is the only team that will test us in rebounding.
Rebounding is about heart really. Defense is about attitude and effort. I don't know what to do about FT shooting.

What an unbelievable comeback. Wow that was an insane final 2 minutes.
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

was just gonna write that...
What a finish...all i can say is wow...
What a comeback...and what a collapse for ND. That should haunt them for a while...glad they got xmas to rebound and recover.
Also...unrelated. My boy Tony Buckets (TJ Warren) dropped 32 today against ECU. NCST is gonna be a force to reckon with come March...theyre young and eager. Theyre gonna get a lot better. Unlike that entitled team they had last year they often played lifeless...This team is so much better at TEAM. Cant wait to see em keep improving. Get to conference play and then get some Ws and get some love.

That would be so depressing...
Thats such a horrible score. Ive been on the losing side of a score like that once (had a college JV team lose 111-37). It's demoralizing. Nothing that you do, can really change anything thats happening...and nothing you do makes it better. Except emptying your bench...which just makes it worse.
unrelated...NCST hosting Mizzou tonight. My guys have a chance to get some recognition. They've been mediocre and flying under the radar but picking up wins...save for two (NC Central being one loss that is hateable) but they won in the ACC/B1G challenge and have played much better of late.
I dont need to see em win...just be in it start to finish at this point. Wanna see em ready for the ACC slate.

In news even stunning to me, "Toledo Guy", my Rockets are now 12-0. Considering it seems the Rockets won 12 games over the course of the past say three seasons, this is amazing. The big test now comes Tuesday night.

Did anyone else see what Southern did to Champion Baptist the other night?
They led 44-0 and won 116-12... We all thought the SDST v. St Katherine was bad...and Southern destroyed that score.
also Arizona beat Wazzou 60-25 yesterday...25 in a 40 minute game...ew. Crazy stuff goin on in college ball this year.

Matt's recruits too many "nice guys." You need nastiness to win a championship. He always recruits the same damn types of kids. They're either soft or undersized.

He may, but he sure can motivate them and keep them focused in adverse situations. They play great team basketball.

The thing is that Payne and Harris are future NBA guys. I've looked at Spartys recruiting. I see great "college players" but not guys that are scheme busters.

That 3 ball from Appling in OT was ballsy as ever...
Great game...do they play again in Ohio State? Because that may be game of the year.
On the other side...NCST caught ND ripe for the picking after that huge win against Duke. Outscored em 25-9 at the FT line (out shot em 32-12 in ND...crazy) which is a huge win for NCST.
Also...The Mayor has REALLY got Iowa State playing amazing basketball. I was skeptical because he'd never coached before but wow this guy is amazing. Iowa State is a title contender this year.

Something I've noticed in big games. Matta is EXTREMELY underrated as an X and O guy. However, I'm starting to question his recruiting. I understand you want good kids, but a lot of these guys are soft. Amir finally played with an edge in the second half so I'll give him credit for that. We keep seeing flashes of his talent. He moves very well for his size. Aaron obviously plays physicaly out of his mind. I just don't understand why that doesn't rub off on guys.

I thought there was too much standing around in OT. Both sides of the floor. Pressure the shooters, and on the other end, when you just stand there, turnovers and bad shots are going to happen. It's college basketball, you're supposed to be moving around.

I thought the biggest issue in OT was that Loving attempted to do his best Evan Turner impersonation and he just isn't quite there yet. Led to forced opportunities rather than allowing the game to come to them. Craft was killing Sparty in the lane at the end of regulation and he only even attempted to drive once in OT? why?

Today is an example of why I don't trust Aaron Craft when we play tough tourney teams. 5 points and 4 turnovers. I value his defense and leadership, but this team can't win a title with a Rajon Rondo type of PG. ESPECIALLY when everyone else struggles on offense. Too many turnovers today killed us.

I'm glad Notre Dame is finding out that beating the rest of the ACC isn't going to be as easy as it was to beat Duke.
