As you can see a 1.8 million year old skull has been found of what they say is our ancestors......if so.....i just want to know how discoveries like this make you feel about God? If you believe in God...do things like this make you doubt your belief? What does it make you feel? How do you react? What is your argument for God? I myself believe in God....however i am always curious to see how these kind of things effect people. http://www.foxnews.com/science/2013/10/17/18-million-year-old-skull-shakes-humanitys-family-tree/

I'm confused
Why would this not make you believe in God? I believe he created "cavemen."

Yeah, I fail to see how this evidence disproves the theory of God.
It certainly casts doubt towards certain faiths.
But at this point those texts have long been rendered fiction.

Has this become a thread to bash the name of Holy God? In the interest of proclaiming anything other than God as God? It really always comes down to the answer to one question, who is God? Either God is God or anything else.
As for me, I will serve God. Do I believe God, who is proven, or someone, anyone, who proclaims otherwise; when the evidence of God is clear to all.
I will serve God and beg forgiveness because judgment comes swiftly. Blessed be the name of the Lord whose mercy endures forever.

I don't think there are that many people who are young earth creationists so this kind of stuff shouldn't have much impact on belief in god in general.
Straight creation to manhood (homosapien) isn't a huge tenet but is more popular. That might be in question for a lot of people. But I don't think the creation story is really that important to most people.
Religion is more about a code of ethical guidelines and a sense of community etc.. The facts behind it aren't especially vital to believing in it.
I'm not religious but I don't think evolution vs. creation/young earth creation matters to 99% of religious people.

After having my doubts years ago, I strongly believe in God.
It's hard for some people to understand because they focus on what is not right in the world. People with health problems, the types of health problems, and the age of the people with health problems is what many people cite when they say "if there was a God why would he/she do this?"
The thing I've learned is that we must always, always, appreciate what and who we have when we have it and them. We must always be aware that what and who we have with us can be taken away at any moment.
Appreciate life for what is real. Don't let prestigious jobs or prestigious items lead you to believe that you are anything but a human put here for God's reasons.
Two things I know for sure. Humans cannot control or change the will of the Gods. - If the Gods don't want it to happen, it won't happen, whatever it is. One other thing I know for sure. We're here for a reason. I firmly believe that those who do their best to avoid the 7 deadly sins, and follow the 10 commandments will continue on a path that God has put in place for them.
I am a school teacher. - Something I always felt, but tried avoiding for the longest time. After graduating from undergrad, I worked at several corporations, and had a city job as well. Circumstances led to me having to go to grad school and getting a degree in education.
I now teach kids everyday. I am stressed out beyond belief, I have little time for my wife, daughter, and even less time for my favorite message board. But I know that I am where I am because God wants me there. I get reminded of this at various times, whether it be a song that plays at a particular time or the appearance of somebody I have not seen in years.

I didn't read the article but the question I have is What proof is there that the skull is this old.. Carbon dating maybe, I've read there are flaws in carbon dating so why would I believe scientists over the Bible. My faith says believe in God so I believe in God!

We have adopted a year is the time it takes the earth to orbit the sun. When Columbus sailed for the New World, the earth was thought to be flat and the sun revolved around the earth, so the common measure of a year had to be different.
The measurment of time has changed, so ....there you have it....the measuring sticks are different.

Well put Peen. The bible isn't intended to be a book of scientific facts. It is about ethics and being a good person. Just as an aside and nothing personal. Colombus knew the earth was round, that knowledge had been well established at that point. Sometime in the 18th century historians started spreading that myth and it persists to this day. Here is a comic about Colombus that you might enjoy. web page

It makes me think we don't understand god, and probably never will. It's like the questions of reading the Bible. Some people take it as whole truth, some as allegory, some as history. I personally believe the Bible is a history written with allegory stories, with some of it properly translated and some of it not properly translated. The story of Enoch lends credibility to a close encounter with aliens, where the gospels are historical retellings. Genesis has similar stories written earlier in Sumatran cuiniform. We might not be meant to understand god.

There is a huge fallacy in your reasoning. A year was always measured by the sun's position in the sky. The summer and winter solstices happen every June and December 21 (or 22nd) when the sun is it's highest or lowest in the sky. This is how a year was measured. I have said all along that much of the Bible is written in a form that man of the time would understand. What is a "day" to God, especially before the Earth was created? If the Bible said "In the first billion years of creation/existence as we understand it, God created ...." No one would understand that. It is written in terms that man can understand.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.

The proof is not there and the evidence is not clear.
Everyone is welcome to their own personal faith, but when they beat their chests without merit... yeah, it's loopy.
Let me put it this way -
If I tell you that the proof God doesn't exist is clear to anyone who wants to see it, and just because people don't want to see it doesn't mean it isn't clear...
...how is that any different than what you just said?
'Evidence' and 'proof' are real words. They have real, definite meanings.
The loopy post I responded to claimed proof and evidence.
As someone who believes 100% that there is no God, I would never in a million years claim I have proof.
To do so would be loopy.
To argue that accusation?
Well....

It's called Faith for a reason. If it was blatant, then there would be no need for Faith.
Speaking as someone with Faith in God, I cannot believe that someone could manage to ignore His existence. However, He created us with free will. We get to choose whether or not to believe in Him.

Goodluck telling that to hundreds of churches across the country and thousands across the world.
Part of the problem as I perceive it is that the absolute faith these churches require...the same faith that drives these folks to lead good lives...doesn't allow for compromise. Generations are born, raised, and die with a black-and-white viewpoint driven in to them over the course of their lives. If there isn't absolute faith as laid out in the bible there isn't any faith at all.
In reality the percentage of churches and institutions aren't the majority, but when the Pope says it is...
Having said that, anyone who tells me there isn't some version of a intelligent design is someone who hasn't bothered to consider how complex something like a human eye really is.
I don't personally believe in the God as described in the bible, but I sure believe in that which put the things in motion which gives us our Universe. I happen to think we as a species are collectively too confident...I should say arrogant...so instead of realizing how little we actually know, we tend to believe we know much more about the Universe than we really do. Personally, I don't think we're smart enough to understand the Universe yet, and I've privately been pondering the possibility that we're not meant to understand it. Ever.
Or maybe I've got it wrong and we're all just looking at a version of Beetlejuice's The Handbook For The Recently Deceased.

That's exactly what I came in to say. If evidence of God was blatant, faith wouldn't be used to describe a person's belief in a religion because it wouldn't be necessary.
I am of the belief that nobody knows the truth one way or another. I'm not going to act like I have any answers on the subject and will live life to the best of my ability and respect those around me. When I die, I'll find out the truth about whether there is a God or not. If there is and I lived my life life well enough in His view, I should be in good shape in the afterlife. If I didn't, I at least lived up to my high standards and won't regret anything I did during my time here. Nobody should tell another person whether their belief is correct or not because quite honestly, NOBODY knows the truth. If someone acts like they do know, they're full of it and I'll instantly ignore their take.

A someone with no faith in God as it is portrayed, I cannot believe that people who are otherwise rational believe that a book of impossible fairy tales written thousands of years ago is any sort of truth or gospel.
A belief in God I can understand completely. It's the people who believe the nonsense of religious texts to be anything more than allegorical fairy tales who make me scratch their heads.
I'm also baffled by anyone who truly believes they are correct in regards to the subject.

Having felt God's power in my own life, it is impossible to me to deny Him.
I do believe that God makes himself felt to all, but that some can, and do deny Him. To me that is incredibly sad. I have prayed to God in some of my darkest days, during some of my worst struggles, and have felt the weight lifted off me immediately. I actually had a situation with a financial matter where there was going to be a one month gap in between the end of my long term disability insurance and the start of my Social Security. I prayed for help, and about 2 hours later I got a call from the woman at the insurance company. She went back to double check my policy (I had called her to see why I didn't receive my disability insurance when I was supposed to, and was told that that gap was normal, and there was nothing that could be done) and she found that I had some obscure rider attached to my policy that actually gave me additional benefits from the insurance company as an immediate lump sum payment. She said that she almost didn't even bother looking because so few policies had that particular rider, and almost none of the employer sponsored plans did.
I could have gotten through without the money, but it was going to be very difficult. However, when I prayed to God, I could feel Him say, "Don't worry, I will take care of you". He did. As soon as I prayed, I felt the worry and concern lift off of me, as if a weight had been lifted from my shoulders. I knew that, somehow, things would be OK.
There have been other similar instances .... and not all have been answered in a visible manner like that, but I can always feel God with me, saying "You are not alone, and I will never give you more to deal with than you can handle." I truly feel sorry for those who never get to experience such a feeling of peace and comfort when they run into situations beyond their control. I pray that everyone will find their way to God. He doesn't force anyone to Him, but he does encourage them ..... if someone is willing to listen.
I believe in the Bible, and specifically, in the message of the New Testament. It is a message of hope, and love, and God's sacrifice for us, and Faith. I don't know if you have ever actually read it or not, and read through it with an open mind, and an open heart. If not, I would encourage you to do so. It cannot possibly hurt you none bit to read, and really see what the message is, without trying to judge every word for exactness, and every fact for specific scientific proof. The message is what matters. It is a message of God's incredible love for us all, and His willingness to do everything for us, and to save us, except forcing us to come to Him. That part He leaves up to us. It is the step that we must decide to take.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

Everyone doubts their faith on occasion. When you put it to the test, it becomes stronger. I think this applies to just about any type of belief.

God knows that..........I won't go into details......other than to say when I was working for a lady that had just been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, and the "experts" gave her 10 days to 3 months to live.......well, I talked with her. I thought I had done well. Right up until she told me her story.........about being called to heaven prior to her being diagnosed.
Again, no details. But it sure was a 2X4 to my head.

Possibly the Columbus part, but I was under the impression that for a long time people thought the earth was the center of the universe. Either way it doesn't matter. As someone else said, maybe we know what God wants us to know and there is no understanding everything else.

I experience doubt almost daily. For me, faith is a very hard thing. I am a very analytical, I natural look for a logical explaination to things.
I can't help but rad the stories in the bible and try to find the flaws, the possible cons/acting. My faith is constantly tested in these ways, but somehow, I always seem to find myself leaning more toward beleiving than not. Maybe it's my wife's heavy faith that seems to come so easy to her. Maybe it's the great things in my life that I can't explain how they came about. Maybe it was driven into me as a child attending Catholic school for the first few years. maybe it's the heavy faith in the owners of the company I work for.
I don't really know, but I do know I fight doubt on a daily basis, but doubt has never won out at the end of the day.

So what would it have meant if the reverse happened and you had to endure hardship ? Does that mean that God didn't care? That you were not deserving of his grace ? Or would have meant that God had a reason for not delivering on your prayers and you had to take the meaning that it was a test he put in front of you ? Seems to me that you could take several meanings no matter what the outcome . Either God granted your prayerful wishes or he had a test for you to pass . I don't subscribe to any religion but respect that whatever works for the individual is what works for them .
