What if the Campbell we see on a regular basis is the Campbell we saw at the end of the Ravens game?
What then?
Then you tell Weeden he has a third chance.. And if he fails again, you just ride that ship until seasons end and get yourself ready to draft a young guy and develop him,.
But in the off season, you dump Weeden and Campbell, keep hoyer as your starter (penciled in) and go get some other guys. Draft hopefully.
There's no way you turn back once you make the switch. Anyhow, I can't see a scenario where Campbell is worse than Weeden. If we end up in a situation where it's a question who between these two is going to start each week, just shoot me.

man, careful, you'd be shot right now. between what Campbell showed last year and what he showed in the Baltimore game, the fact the coaching staff bypassed him even as a QB2 to start a game, and the fact he hasn't been named a starter ahead of Weeden, it's a question right now.

Exactly. I saw a lot of Campbell when Cutler went down last year, he was hard to watch. And I don't really care if the Bears win or lose, so it shouldn't have been so upseting to me. And it was.
I'm not surprised either, I didn't like the signing when it was announced. They should have kept Lewis. It's obvious Campbell just wants to hold a clipboard.

The Browns were apparently not interested, which is not surprising, considering the last time Garcia threw a pass in the NFL was in 2008 for the Buccaneers. Garcia (who played for the Browns in 2004) has attempted to stay in football into his 40s and has spent time with the Raiders, Eagles and Texans along with the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League."
Quote: I was just going to make a similar post. Why throw Campbell in there for his first start against that vicious D. Weeden earned it.
Because Campbell gives this team the best chance to win. Im sure Campbell would love to earn a future paycheck by beating an undefeated team. I think this team will beat K.C. with good QB play.

I would seriously welcome him back, actually. He would be an upgrade over Weeden, and he never had a line like this to work behind.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
IF he could run the offense like a veteran, I might be inclined to agree. I doubt that he can, so there's little point in switching to someone for equally poor performance.

Did you notice I said to pencil him in as a starter. In case you weren't aware of the meaning of that, penciling someone in means you are unsure if he's capable.. But at this point, he's the best option we have.. As of this moment.

You can't, but the coaching staff must. They bypassed Campbell to play Hoyer, and then they made Weeden the backup to Hoyer with 1 day of practice for the Bills game. There is something about Campbell that this staff seems not to like. If they aren't playing Campbell, then they do see a scenario where he could be worse than Weeden.
As far as switching to Campbell somehow eliminating Weeden from every playing QB again, even if Campbell is worse .... Why? Weeden would jump at the chance to play again if he were benched. It would be just like the Bills game. He would be the backup, and would have to perform if he got another shot. It happens with players at every position, yet we somehow assume that the players at the position needing the most strength would lack if they were benched? I don't understand that.

I don't have the answer on what we should do. I don't think there is a clear-cut answer.
Here is what I do know:
--Campbell's career numbers are far superior to Weeden's. --Weeden stinks. --What do really have to lose? --It would be hard to go back to Weeden again if Campbell stinks.
Not sure what to do. If it were me, I would go w/Campbell, but I am not privy to any inside information. I keep reading posts that say the coaches got into a yelling match w/Campbell and accused him of mailing it in. Are there any reports that verify that information, or is it just wild speculation?
Start Campbell, sign some young QB (Matt Scott?). If Campbell stinks start the young guy and hope to catch lightning in a bottle. If the young guy stinks we aren't going anywhere anyway and we get a high draft pick.
I think this week's start against the Chiefs will be Weeden's last start in the NFL. Make it special Weeden. Get caught under the flag, throw it off a defender and then throw it again, throw back hand flips, look lost, hold the ball too long. This is your last chance to do you. Go down in a blaze of glory.
I have lost all interest in this team. 300 bucks for sunday ticket down the drain once again. Its like watching Wizard of oz, the team has no heart, the qb has no brain.
i'm having a hard time trying to figure out why Cambell is geting such a hard time from these boards. Have I missed something so terrible with his carreer that justifies he is so much worse than Weeden. Didn't he have a winning record two years ago before he got injured, like 4-2 Then the idots Raiders give TWO first round picks for the very average Carson Palmer Still can't believe that one. Ween has been exposed, the coaching staff gave him every chance to succeed but he just couldn't deliver. Now they are caught between a rock & hard place.
I watched Cambell since his Aurburn days, he won't take us to the promised land, but like Vers said, he has better statistics than Weeden ( if that means anything) More importantly experience. I don't understand why wait for the bye, I'm quite suprised he didn't get the nod this week, also a little dissapointed.
Also, Hoyer will get his chance again, I seem to ses a theme many don't think he will make it back. I do and he will bridge the gap from our rookie Qb (TBD)
Give this team/ fan base a chance for another spark, play Cambell
" Cuss me all you want, but I'm going to leave everything on the field."
The coaches need to consider starting Jason Campbell; ( And then go Right Back to the game plan they were working on with their STARTING QB Brandon Weeden!)
This fan base would have traded Jon Elway after his first super bowl loss, or long before it!!! I wonder How Kosars' time would have been different if the internet had been as widespread back then. So Yippee Hooray, Go Browns !
" Cuss me all you want, but I'm going to leave everything on the field. " That is why I want to see him play this week!
" Cuss me all you want, but I'm going to leave everything on the field."
Good luck Weeden, We're all counting on you.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

$600 plus for the Lions game. (hotel, tickets, gas, tolls, etc)
Going to the ravens game - there's anothe $600.
Going to the Bears game as well.
$1800 down the drain. But, at least we have a good time Sat. night (and will have a good time after the ravens...we're spending Sunday night) So, I guess I have to look at it like that.
And the season ticket holders....they've got some money invested too.
Quote: I've always liked Garcia as a QB. I'd welcome signing him.
He's also been working with Peter Lalich this offseason who I wouldn't mind bringing in at the same time.
Weeden is basically unwatchable. I'm not sure I'll keep tuning in with him under the helm.
\Let me know when the NFL comes up with a test to determine who quick a guys brain works, and how much heart he has. Untill then all thee tests the NFL conducts mean SQUAT
Quote: I haven't heard anything specific regarding Campbell, but something has to be up for him to get passed over so many times.
In what sense do you use the term "passed over?"
If you mean on the Browns, it's rather straight-forward, unless you're one of the ones who believes the ancient aliens built the pyramids.
It's like this:
Weeden was a #1 pick He flailed away and his regime got the boot New regime comes in, made up in part by a GM who was very public about his dislike of Flipper and his praise of Hoyer, but Hoyer was slapped with a 2nd round tender by the Cards so he wasn't available Browns wanted insurance in case *sic* Flipper flopped so they signed Campbell After Campbell signed Hoyer was released Hoyer was signed by the new GM who really liked the guy
On a rebuilding team who traded their #1 RB for a 1st round pick it made perfect sense to not start the 32-year old QB in favor of the 27-year old QB who the new regime thinks is promising.
As for the speculation that Campbell is disliked by this regime, well, I want some proof of that before I'll consider it.
If I were this regime I'd have done the exact same thing. Turns out they were right, as Hoyer looked promising. After he went down, well, you might as well see if Flipper's light comes on.

I feel for you.... $300 for the NFL Ticket, $900 for son and me to fly , $150 tickets, $800 for hotel room. $120 for rental car... add meals etc...I figure about $2700 pooped out to watch Beaker ( thanx GM ) flip the detroit game etal.

I'm in the same boat,, I really don't know the right answer and that's at least partly because I don't have all this supposed inside info on this whole Campbell thing.
It's odd, but I don't remember reading anything of an official nature that would indicate that Campbell is in the doghouse. Just a lot of speculation as to why he was passed over for Hoyer.
So I don't know the facts.

I agree with the post above (Vers, I believe) in that once you go to Campbell you can't (barring injury) go back to Weeden. I think that may be the driving force right now. What if you go to Campbell and he looks like Freeman did for the Vikes Monday (and continues to look like that)? You have to ride it out, and 9 games is a long way to ride. At least going with Weeden, you still have the possiblity of a switch. If you switch now, your'e stuck with Campbell. As bad as Weeden is, it could get worse. (See Doug Pederson, Spergeon Wynn, Dennis Northcutt as QB, etc.)
Personally, if there was anyone at all out there, I'd release Weeden, go with Campbell and get the new guy up to speed as quickly as possible. That being said, with all the QBs going down, what you see is what you get - and it isn't pretty!
There may be people who have more talent than you, but there's no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do. -Derek Jeter
Frankly I don't get this "Once you change QBs, you can't go back to Weeden" stuff.
We already changed the QB spot once. Hoyer won the job. Weeden was the backup. Sure it only lasted a handful of snaps, but it was the new status quo, until Hoyer got hurt. Then Weeden went back into the game.
If the coaches decide to make a change and start Campbell, then Weeden will be the backup. He'll have to be ready in case anything happen, just like he was when he was backing up Hoyer.
I don't know why we think that the QB position is such a delicate flower. Hell, if the guy can't handle adversity, then he;s not going to make it anyway .... even as a backup.

Speaking of things you don't get, and delicate flowers ... I seem to be reading pretty often that Weeden's play is dragging the whole team down. The offense, the defense, ST's, the WR group's body language, blah-blah-blah. If I were coach I would say "get that weak <bleep> outta here. You're a pro, act like one ... do your J-O-B. The QB position will take care of itself eventually, but other players need to understand that they are under the microscope too.
Personally, if there was anyone at all out there, I'd release Weeden, go with Campbell and get the new guy up to speed as quickly as possible.
I've seen some form of this sentiment on here numerous times since last week's game. The only problem is that no matter how you cut it this isn't going to happen. They will never just release Weeden. They'll trade him for a 5th round pick before they dump him for nothing and take whatever cap hit that it would mean.
The other problem lies in the fact, that many seem to forget, that the Browns have only 2 QBs at this point. One is bad and the other is worse. The bigger problem lies in the fact that apparently they are not sure which one is which. After watching Josh Freeman, a guy that people were drooling over two years ago, screw the pooch I doubt that the FO is real anxious to pick up someone else's discarded problem child and make him our new QB.
Face it. Weeden is the QB now and for the immediate future. Campbell may get his chance soon. Maybe as soon as this weekend. But just be careful what you wish for. In 3-4 weeks we could all be saying, "Gosh, I can't believe I'm longing for the days when Weeden was the starter".

I agree 100%. I want to make the switch now. Weeden never got the chance to sit and learn. I think playing the sophomore into oblivion is a bad move. Show the players that if you don't produce, your benched. If any other position player was playing this bad, and it showed up on the score because they were playing that poorly, they would be cut. But I think Weeden getting the chance to learn for a couple a few weeks, would be help Weeden. He seems to do better when the game plan isnt built around him and he just goes out and slings it. Less thinking. Him getting a break would help him.
Weeden is officially done. Man, I can't believe spending a 1st round pick on a 29 year old QB with no football IQ coming from the spread offense didn't work out. Who could've seen that one coming?
