I found this on another site.....something to think about. Maybe he's right?

Tony was shot and killed at the end. Remember at the very end of the previous episode, when he was lying in bed with his gun? He had a flashback to sitting on the fishing boat with Bobby and Bobby says "Hey you probably don't even hear it when it happens," referring to how you probably don't even notice the fact that you're being killed because it happens instantly. The guy that went in to the bathroom came out and shot him right in the head. That's why the episode cuts out.

I'm guessing that is right. However, it still stunk - the episode, that is.

After how many years, and we deal with a lame episode like this for the finale? This episode, this ending, left a bad taste in my mouth, and I was disappointed. All I have is my opinion, there it is. The ending stunk.

So here is what I found out. The guy at the bar is also credited as Nikki Leotardo. The same actor played him in the first part of season 6 during a brief sit down concerning the future of Vito. That wasn't that long ago. Apparently, he is the nephew of Phil. Phil's brother Nikki Senior was killed in 1976 in a car accident. Absolutely Genius!!!! David Chase is truly rewarding the true fans who pay attention to detail.

So the point would have been that life continues and we may never know the end of the Sopranos. But if you pay attention to the history, you will find that all the answers lie in the characters in the restaurant. The trucker was the brother of the guy who was robbed by Christopher in Season 2. Remember the DVD players? The trucker had to identify the body. The boy scouts were in the train store and the black guys at the end were the ones who tried to kill Tony and only clipped him in the ear (was that season 2 or 3?).

Absolutely incredible!!!! There were three people in the restaurant who had reason to kill Tony and then it just ends.

I'm highly disappointed in the Sopranos last episode.. I won't spoil it (not that I really could) for those that have not seen it, but man, what a freakin disappointment. a total letdown

I'd like to revise my thinking a little..

The Today program this morning indicated that dispite all the rumors to the contrary, there really may be a Sopranos Movie in the works. Thus they couldn't actually show Tony getting clipped if indeed that's what was supposed to happen. How would they actually have an option if Tony dies.

What else is a clue is that Syl is still alive (if you want to call that living) so they could have him and Pauly Walnuts come back in the movie.

The thing someone on here wrote about Nicki Leotardo was interesting,, hadn't thought of that, and the two black guys,, Some of you guys are way more into this than I ever was, and I haven't missed an episode ever,,, so wow, my hats off to you.

This could get very interesting if a movie does indeed come out.

"...James Gandolfini has said he has put the character of Tony Soprano to bed and he will be relieved to never play him again"

I assume J. Gandolfini invested his money wisely because it is all downhill for him after the Sopranos. Maybe he can eat his way into the role of Jabbatini the Hut for the remake of Star Wars # 347.

I thought the ending was brilliant. I was on the edge of my seat those last few minutes. I was so ticked when that screen went blank, I couldn't get to sleep for a long time.

I knew the flashback to the conversation on Bobby's boat meant something, but I didn't connect it until long after the show was over.

Was that janitor at Junior's asylum (the big black guy) the cop who Tony had demoted a few seasons ago? Tony ran into him working at a home improvement store afterward and he didn't look happy. I think he may have been the one who tipped off where they'd be eating because of the cell phone call while T was visiting.

He may say he's put Tony's character to bed and hopes he never plays him again,, but let's face it, Show Biz careers are fleeting at best,, so money talks... A studio offers JG enough money, and I bet the movie will be made... There isn't a doubt in my mind that someone with enough dough could make it happen.

As for his career after the Sopranos, JG has been in lots of movies,,, the one with Gene Hackman and Danzel Washington about a Sub Captain and possible nuclear war outbreak,, Crimson Tide!

The Mexican and several others..

He's a darn fine actor so I don't find it hard to believe he can get other roles,, That kinda contradicts my earlier comment about him not wanting to do a Soprano Movie,, it's my guess however that there is a number that would make it work for him...

But that's JMO,,

Well, I hope this is the end. If a movie comes out....I'll be really upset.

My wife and I agree that if we somehow get confirmation that Tony was shot at the last second.....then the ending is awesome. For example, David Chase or other actors do an interview, HBO releases a statement or it's on the inside the directors commentary on the DVD. If we never get that confirmation, then the ending stays stupid.

Chase overthought his ending. He wanted it to be too smart and too different. And he forgot that this series isn't about him and his too smart brain, it was about the characters and the fans. He lost sight of that (if the ending stays all clouded in mystery).

Your Point of View is perfectly valid but for me, I want there to be a movie to clear things up that the series didn't. Your thinking that Chase overthought this thing may be right on..

Some things are clear,, Meadow goes on to be a lawyer, AJ finds himself in a creative role in show business, Jr Soprano is mentally gone and will spend his last days in a home, Pauly is gonna take a major role in the family business now that he's really the lone survivor, Syl is a Veggie if he lives and Carmela goes into real estate full time and becomes a house flipper and gets her own TV show on HGTV..

That's if the guy who shoots Tony at the resturant doesn't kill everyone else,,,, That's also if Tony even gets shot..:) Yes, Chase left a MESS!

Thats what gets me. Did everyone at the table get killed and is that why they made such a big point of showing Meadow getting delayed by driving like a woman ? When the screen went blank Meadow was just walking in the door.

I thought it was a BRILLIANT ENDING ........ GENIUS ....... it allowed u to create your own ending ...... the MUSIC ... all the people walking in the diner ... Meadow in a hurry to get to the table ... GREAT STUFF ..

plus he left the door wide open for a movie ... i LOVED IT ... it ended how i wanted it to ... as I get to create my own personal ending ...

my favorite pst was when the FBI agent got excited and said "were gonna win this thing" after Phil's face got mushed .... *LOL* ..

Quote:

the guy at the bar was credited as "man at diner" not as Nikki Leotardi (I taped it . ) .. what made me look??? cause its hard for me to believe that a guy walked in right in front of AJ and sat at a counter 15' from Tony and looked at him a few times and after being at a sit down with the guy and Tony NEVER RECOGNIZED HIM ... no way ...

Quote:

The trucker was the brother of the guy who was robbed by Christopher in Season 2. Remember the DVD players? The trucker had to identify the body.

not sure how anyone could say that for sure .. U never get a good look at the guys face ... way to VAGUE to come to any conclusions ...

Quote:

black guys at the end were the ones who tried to kill Tony and only clipped him in the ear (was that season 2 or 3?).

ummm .. it was 2 black guys that tried to kill him and tony killed one of them .. so it couldnt have been both of them ...

i thought it was a GREAT SCENE .... the MUSIC was so intense ... then all the different people walking in he made "shady characters" out of ... like the guy at the counter looking Italian and glancing at tony a couple times .. BRILLIANT as far as I'm concerned ...

but 2 out of 3 of this guys "thoughts" are just not possible ....

anyhow .. GREAT ENDING IMO ....

IMO Meadow being late just added to the DRAMA .... it was a NOTHING SCENE that due to everything surronding it was INTENSE and had everyone on the edge of their seats .. that just added to the DRAMA ... GENIUS ...

I mean everyone was wondering .... is tony gonna get killed .. if so by whom??? is it the guy at the counter ... the truck driver .. the black guys .. and when the shooting starts does his wife or AJ get shot and/or killed .. and what about Mead ...

the music was PERFECT ...

at was a GENIUS SCENE as far as I'm concerned ..

My take....

Chase left this open and its up to everyone to figure it out...just like the Russian from "Pine Berrins" and so so many other threads that went unresolved.

1. Could Tony have been whacked? Yep...and everything goes dark...like he and Bobby talked about.

2. Maybe WE GOT Wacked. Just like that..our 8 years of Sopranos ended with a shot to our collective heads and we just got wacked from their lives. As Journey sings

Some will win, some will lose
Some are born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on...

Don't forget the forshadowing mentioned earlier in this thread about the Four little Ducks song sang in the first episode of this season. The four little ducks just go far away out of OUR lives.

3. Maybe "Mystery Man" is a fed and when Harris makes his remark abou winning, its winning a Ricco case and there is no Terrorist Unit he is on just to suck "T" in.

I will watch the whole last season again, but I don't expect anything to come out of it. David Chase leaves it for us to determine the fate of Tony. If you hate him, he's dead....if you like him, nothing happened to him.

I read this take on the cat and the Sopranos and its interesting....

I read this on a message board today and thought it was interesting....

Schrodinger's Cat experiment is the perfect parallel and paradox we the viewer faces with the ending. If the viewers have not observed it, then all possiblities to a happening are possible. Makes a lot of sense...

2 things. Episode title "Made in America" - the guy that went into the bathroom had a USA hat on - therefore, him killing Tony means he is now a "made" guy.

After reading about how when you are killed, everything goes black - I also thought about the possibility of Chase implying that the viewer of the show is now dead (by being shot in the back of the head) and missing the ending of the show. That's why the music stops and the screen goes black.

I am one of the few that enjoyed the last episode. On the edge of my seat the whole time - what more can you ask for. I would have felt slighted if it was an ending like Tony going into witness protection, indicted on some charges or just flat out killed in front of his family.

Yeah, I only copied that idea from another message board. The thing that burns my bottom is that we might never know. Unless David Chase comes clean on the DVD commentary (which might be a year or more away).

You know they could have ended that show with a bang literally, with just one sound and they could have left it open for anything they wanted to do.

The simple sound of a gun shot and then it fading to black.

You wouldn't know what happened but you would know something happened. The way it ended you have absolutely no clue. Tony could have choked on an onion ring and you would never know.

I still think the best ending would have been if Tony woke up and he was just a normal everyday guy and the whole thing was just one big dream, then show him at work or somewhere and a few of the people that have starred in the show or died off just be his normal everyday acquintances.

I hate dream sequence endings. The only time that it ever really worked for me was when the Newhart show ended. Outside that, its a cheap way out for a show that really has written itself into a corner or writers that have simply run out of ideas, IMO.

I think it could have worked as long as it was creative and somehow partly original.

Hell anything could be better than what did/didn't happen. I could have written a better ending in a week.

Well....since Newhart used it in the 80's, it probably couldn't be very original.

I think there is a way to make it a bit original. Not necessarily the idea but the events that happen.

It sure seems like what they did. I know i'm ticked off.

There are quite a few questions about the last episode that leave me wondering and I don't like not getting answers.

What happened to Carlo? Did he flip or not, Who was the supposed informant? Was it Paulie because of the look he had on his face after leaving the Bing. Somewhat depressed and disheveled.

Why did the FBI agent who tipped off Tony about Phil say, "yes we are going to win this!" After he found out Phil was dead?

And the most important question, what the hell happened in the diner?

I didn't start watching until around season 3 or 4.

I wish I would have seen every episode because it is by far the best show to ever be on television.

I would like to buy the dvd set but I can't even imagine how much that would cost.

I'm a Sopranos fan, but I wouldn't say it was the best show on television. I wouldn't have said it was the best show on television for the majority of time that it was on television (The West Wing). But, it was very good for a large part of the series, IMO.

I guess I should say the best show I have ever seen.

I don't think I have ever even seen an episode of West Wing. I'm sure there are alot of shows people would throw up there against The Soprano's but it's probably the best for me. Another show that has quickly moved up my favorites list is Heroes, I love that show.

I'd rank Soprano's pretty high, but you're right, there are many shows that others would rank higher.

I didn't miss a single episode of the Soprano's, but I didn't follow it like some on this board do/did -

Since it's over, I'm looking forward to My Name Is Earl coming back on. I watch those 2 shows, and military channel, history channel, and discovery. (And I don't watch much t.v.) (except on Sundays during the football season - sundays revolve around the Browns, and my wife and family know it)

I really don't watch any shows. I usually just watch movies.

I watch shows every now and again, I mean besides The Sopranos and Heroes because I watched them every week. I usually don't get into alot of shows because I miss episodes sometimes and it sucks.

I have watched My name is Earl a few times, that show is pretty funny. King of Queens was always pretty funny too.

I don't watch much television as far as drama or comedy's....about the only two I have watched are Law and Order and Everybody Love's Raymond....I might catch 7-8 episodes a year.
