Is it just me or does it seem like way more injuries occur during these Thursday games than usual?
I don't know if there's data on that or if it's worth compiling, but there seem to be way more Thursday injuries.
And the games are almost always awful.
I watch them, but they're a bad idea.

I enjoy having a Thursday night game for viewing purposes. It gives me something to do and look forward to, and I like having a little taste of the NFL/Fantasy football before the weekend ... BUT The games are terrible. They seem like they are about 50% as intense and the product on the field is nowhere near what it is on Sundays. Plus, the injuries do seem to be inordinate compared to other games. If I were a player/coach I DEFINITELY would be against Thursday games ... so what does the NFL do? Start talking about Thursday night double headers
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

"THEY" say that NFL players are barely getting over their bumps and bruises on Thursdays from the previous Sunday. They then put their armor back on and try to "get thru it" because they have 10 days of R & R afterwards. Many times when you compensate for one booboo it puts stress/more pressure on another areas.

both teams playing on Thursday night should be coming off their bye. That's #1. And #2, I'd be looking to add a 2nd game for Monday night, not Thursday. And the last part, the NFL should somehow give everyone access to the NFL network for the game too (I get it part of my plan, but most friends I know don't get it).

Why does the NFL put games on Thursday night? Im under the impression it was because they would get better tv ratings on Thursday night, opposed to Friday nights or Saturday night. If that is true it is extremely hypocritical of the NFL.
They want to keep players safe, except when it comes to ratings. Football is a very violent sport. If the NFL is concerned with player safety and health, you would think they would give them more days to heal between games.
My thinking is if you maybe tweaked something on Sunday, it could be fully healed by next Sunday, but vulnerable on Thursday. I'm not a doctor nor have I played contact sports for a living, but that seems about right. Any doctors or pro athletes on the board?

Thought provoking topic. We have all these BS rules regarding safety, yet we play real football game 4 days after a previous game. I was a RB in high school and college. Used to have to have my knee drained w/this outrageously long needle before and after games. I was not the biggest guy. Took a freaking beating. Believe me, I was still hurting 4 days after the game. Heck, I was often still hurting a week later. Think about it. These guys are getting the snot kicked out of them and then they don't get a full week to recuperate. It makes sense that there would be more injuries in those games. Good find, man.

The 2 teams playing on Thursday should have their bye week before their thursday game. Would solve the problem.

That's a good idea. I wonder if it is feasible?

That is just far too sensible to ever work.
However, that would mean that the teams playing the 2nd Thursday night game would have their bye week in week 1. No team wants their bye week to be that early.
Your idea would definitely work for the 2nd half of the season though.
Maybe give each team 2 bye weeks to balance things out better? I dunno.

Extra bye to recuperate. Doesn't sound bad at first blush.

Either that or maybe have no Thursday Night game for the 1st 5 or 6 weeks ...... then play 5 or 6 Thursday Night double headers, with the bye week before for those teams.
I think that a 2nd bye week for each NFL, with 1 of those bye weeks being the week before a Thursday Night appearance might be the best idea though. That really makes too much sense for the NFL though.

Speaking as a guy who has to be up at 5AM, I don't like having the Browns play any night games - whether it be Sunday, Monday, or Thursday. I feel like dogbleep the whole next day.
I understand why the NFL likes its Thursday night games, but if its an issue for the players' health and welfare, why doesn't the NFLPA make an issue of it?

Thursday Night brings in more money, and more money bought in is more money for the players .... and their union.

The NFL doesn't wanna step on its feeder systems.
Friday - High School Saturday - College
That's why they play on Thursday. If they could have an NFL game every day of the week they would.
It's all about money.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?
