Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! Got the in-laws coming over today and that's all. My wife is going shopping with my sisters later leaving me home with our four year old to sit and watch tv. Boring, but cool. Have a good day folks. Love coming here and reading what is on your minds.

Have a great day everyone. Enjoy some time off, good food, and a nice holiday season.

Thank-you, Dear. We just go back from a big dinner. Already in my PJ's and ready to chill. Maybe pull up a Comcast movie.

You, and all else have a wonderful day as well!

Had Thanksgiving dinner at my in laws. Stuffed myself. Imagine that. At 5 the women left for the cesspool that is now called "black Thursday?"......leaving me with my daughter and 2 nephews.

How in the good name of Jesus could they have been hungry at 5:30?

Card games are done. Soon it's movie time. And then I have to drive 10 miles to let my nephews dog out. As I told my sis in law "Why? All the dog will do is be so excited when I get there he'll pee all over the kitchen floor. Then I'll have to clean that up. Why not just let him pee with me NOT there?"

Dinner is done.. the kids are headed back home after a sound lesson in humility.. seeing as how the Daddy taught them that lesson in the SaintDawg annual family Rummikub battle!

EDIT: Oh yea and the thermostat is back down to 65.

Sadly, my 10 year old nephew got a bit excited playing baseball. He was up 10-3 and I'm fairly certain - like, 60% certain - he broke my toe. No popcorn for him.

65?????

That's gotta save money, but it's too cold for me. I prefer not to have my fingers and toes turning blue. lol

I keep my daughters bedroom at 65. Upstairs great room is 62. Downstairs living room (main floor, we don't have a basement) kitchen and dining room is 64, and our bedroom is 60. My daughter and I love it. Wife? Not so much.

I keep my house at 70.

I have experimented with keeping my house at 67 and 68 ..... and it really didn't make a big difference in my bill, and I was not comfortable. I prefer it a little warmer, and with a minimal difference in cost, I'll take comfort. My gas bill will probably only top $100 twice this winter, (and only barely) especially with the low current rate for natural gas.

And that just blows me away. I pay $2400 per year for propane. We have hot water heat, and a propane water heater as well. I may look into buying a new water heater. I just think what we pay for heat, and hot water, is outrageous.

I have a high efficiency furnace and water heater, and those have really made a huge difference in my bills. (along with having had my house insulated) I spent about $100 more for my high efficiency water heater than I would have for a regular water heater, but it's been worth it. There is no pilot light. It has an electric ignition. It cut my summer gas bill by at least $5/month.

My summer gas bills are as low as $25, and that's gas water, stove, and dryer, along with heat in the winter.

I want to replace my stove and dryer at some point, but I am saving for those. My dryer is from 1969, so I am sure that I can do a lot better. (Plus, it's a low front loader that is not great for my back)

I was talking to my friends back in Dayton about their heating bills and I had entirely forgotten about it. I get by year round with just an electric fan and my window open. Costs me about $15 month for all my electricity (includes shower). But I pay to have my laundry done. Heating and cooling are ridiculously expensive. One month I had mono and was blasting my AC, spent a fortune doing that.

Back when I lived in a house in California with 4 guys we just all wore thermal stuff in the winter due to our house being unbelievably drafty and having a crummy heater. Tossed pallets they got from work in the fireplace whenever the numb fingers became too much of a nuisance.

I don't really have a good cost saving solution to this issue aside from not living with people who aren't willing to live in an ice box. Heating and cooling are bummers.

I remember when I first moved to Columbus as an 18 year old kid.

My buddy and I rented a small cottage, a 2 room place with a small kitchen and a bathroom.

We could not afford the $300 deposit for the gas, so we ran a small electric heater, used an electric hotplate, and heated water on that for bathing.

I will never forget one day in the middle of winter when I slept in and had to take a freezing cold shower. I thought I was going to die. lol

Ah the halcyon days of youth.
