Jimmy the Greek to Paula Deen

These celebs saying degrading things about woman and others. They shoot off their mouth, make homophopic, and racist comments. ..most go Bye Bye.

Why is anyone surprised? The precedent has been set for years. It has nothing to do with religion at all. Just crude, rude, and mean. It is inexcusable and unexceptable, always has been.

Yeah. That one too.

As for me, I'm only inclined to "hate" people who have wronged me personally in some way. (Disclaimer: does not apply to Boston sports fans)

KoB, where is the beachfront property that you're selling located? If it's near the Lake Erie islands or Cedar Point, maybe we should talk.

No, I haven't. I'm just going by what people are saying here. I really meant that as a tongue in cheek statement and should have put a smiley after it.

"It seems like, to me, a vagina -- as a man -- would be more desirable than a man's anus. That's just me. I'm just thinking: There's more there! She's got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I'm saying? But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man. It's just not logical," he's quoted as saying.

When asked what he thought was sinful, Robertson replied: "Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men."

But homosexuals aren't alone, Robertson said. "Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers -- they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Don't deceive yourself. It's not right."

There's more to the article, but these seem to be the main quotes in question here.

Not dumping you you here........rather, the so called "outrage" over what Phil said, and agreement that he should be off the show.........by? People that don't even watch the show.

Do NOT take that personally Jfan.

It just seems to me, so many people that haven't even SEEN the show are now spouting off with "redneck this", "dude should've known better because his money depends on it", etc.

He was asked, he answered. The only reason it's big news, IMO, is because he's a Christian stating his Christian beliefs.

Do I agree with them? One might be surprised by my answer.

I AM a gun toting, hunting, religious person. Do I agree with Phil? One might be surprised by my answer.

He doesn't need the show anymore than I need and extra hundred bucks this week. I'll take it.......but I don't need it.

If he were a muslim saying the same thing, it wouldn't be a problem for anyone - it would be "oh, it's just his religion, I won't watch the show"..................(and on here, most of the vitriol has been from people that self proclaim they've NEVER watched the show).

If, if, if, if...........but he's a successful guy, with a t.v. show. (and truthfully, the show is NOT about him.........in case anyone would care to watch it). But, since he's successful, and he said what he said............it's "attack attack attack".........mostly, by people that have never watched the show!!!!!!!

I would challenge anyone to watch the show, and find fault in it. You may not like hunting. That's fine. It IS legal though. And the show isn't about hunting. It's about an extended family, with means that go way beyond what they get from a&e, that happens to like being in the woods. That happens to have a sense of humor. That happens to be Christian.

Yes. A few, I'm not sure tbh. Surprisingly making whistles and being conservative aren't my cup of tea, so I don't keep track. The one that I remember was when the Uncle quits because they kept making fun of him and some type of vermin gets into the wall.

Why are you getting so defensive about the comparison of reality tv shows? All three of them are slice of life reality shows. There's nothing to get mad about.

Do we really need to fire someone every time they say something dumb?

I know that advertisers bristle at this sort of thing, but I think advertisers are too hung up on casting such a wide net. There are niche audiences. And they spend money.

Also...I know it's wrong to judge a book by it's cover and all that...but who is surprised that a religious guy from the South is opposed to homosexuality?

Oh, I'm not defensive. Sorry if I came across that way.

What DOES bother me is the people that say "I've never watched that show in my life", and then proceed to act like they know what goes on.

It's a "reality" t.v. show. That means what we see is a re-enactment of their reality.......made for t.v., just like any other "reality" show. They are ALL made for t.v.

But the kicker is, a&e told Phil "no praying, and no Bible......", and we'll do the show, and Phil said "nope".

As I stated earlier..........follow the money. The Robertson's don't need it, but they gladly accept it.

If there's a problem, it's with the people that don't watch the show but hear "oh, Phil as anti gay...........they must be terrible people.......I mean, he said he thought being gay was a sin according to his beliefs"........and they let out the part where Phil says "drunkenness is wrong, sleeping around is wrong......etc etc"......while he admits he did that stuff himself.

This is just an uproar by a vast minority for one simple reason: to cause an uproar.

Do I agree with Phil? Again, I bet you'd be surprised at my answer.......but to attack him, and the show, because he is following his Christian beliefs is just stupid. What people are doing by attacking his beliefs is just saying: "we are narrow minded as well if you don't agree with what we agree with."

Please note - no where have I stated he is/was right.

If someone out there can come up with a show about gay people that sells.........have at it. If someone can come up with a show about criminals.........have at it. If someone can come up with a show about the devil.......have at it.

I won't feel the need to watch. I also won't go get upset if others do watch. If the show lasts.....so be it. If it doesn't, so be it.

I doubt it.

I can't speak for A&E, but generally if you're in front of the camera and on the payroll, you can be suspended or fired for any action they're not fond of, with an army of lawyers to back them.

Burt Reynolds pretty much got fired for getting a messy divorce.

Not at all. It bugs me (that means I'm not "upset") that people that have never watched the show (read this whole thread - most say they've never seen it)........can take a few sentences about what a person says about sin........not just gays by the way...........and transform it into "he's getting what he deserves".

GLAAD and LGBT went out of their way to attack. Attack a person that has an opinion. Apparently, as long as your opinion matches up with the p.c. stance, it's fine. As soon as it doesn't? You're fish food.

Let the rest play out. I would bet Duck Dynasty continues after season 4 (coming up, in Jan.). Either on a&e, or some other company/channel.

The "uproar" is just stupid. Everyone has rights, and I don't think Phil stepped on anyone's rights, or even insinuated their rights should be stepped on. He stated his opinion. Period.

And, to further prove my point..................since the mainstream media hasn't picked up on his thoughts of black people.........no one has mentioned it. All these "enlightened" people, and no one is talking about that.

It's so damn ironic, isn't it? All these people that have never watched the show............then they hear "Phil is anti-gay based on what I read"...........it's just stupid.

If you haven't watched the show, perhaps you should just so you have an understanding of where "they" come from. A&E understood from the beginning..........but now we have a lot of "uber enlightened" people calling Phil out for being what he is.

One thing he isn't about is the money.

I watched the show maybe 3 times and thought it was kinda boring and like watching a re-run after the 3rd show.Pretty much the same thing. My wife loves the show and the guys on it.Of course she is from Kentucky and likes the Turtleman guy too.He don't appeal to me either.

All the man did was express his opinion. He didn't talk down to them or make them feel inferior. In fact he said he still loved them as Jesus would.I have no problem with gays and lesbiens as long as they don't throw it up in my face or do anything out of the way in front of my grand kids. Then I would get red.

I don't know what you're considering the vocal minority is, but A&E does have to go through these motions to appease their other shows. Considering the show has been shot already, and probably edited, I'm not sure what suspending means. Though they did suspend him for a reason and not fire him. It's kind of like when your friend gets a bit too drunk and starts saying some things that they shouldn't, you just have to pull them back and have a bit of a break to appease the people who don't like what he's said.

I really don't understand the difference between bugged and upset. Maybe those words have different meanings to you? I really don't see much of a difference. I know what the show's about.

He was asked if there were issues pre-civil rights. Growing up in a farm town and working in the field with blacks, his observations were never negative...in his town. That's what he was asked, that's how he responded. Different societies, especially secluded societies in the 40's and 50's do not typically possess the same traits as the larger society. Phil is not an ignorant man. He knew he was being interviewed for GQ and understands civil equality. Reading the original article and a blog from the reporter, it sounds some took that out of context, which is why the blacks are not calling him out.

For me: bugged means irritated. Irritated that people that don't even watch the show will chime in (here, and especially elsewhere) with comments that they just don't have a grip on WHY.

Upset? That would be me being mad. I'm not mad.

I'll go with that.......I'm from a small town. That doesn't make me good, or bad. It makes me what I am.

As for Phil's "stance", I just find it odd that some people can't understand he offered his OPINION. He didn't say gays should be linched, or ridiculed, or anything else other than he felt that's a sin, based on HIS opinion of his religion. For people to attack him about his opinion is doing exactly what they don't want him to do. It's a 2 way street that some people think is a 1 way street.

A&E will figure this out, one way or another. Trust me, they are currently bowing to a minority.............not that the minority is wrong..........but when push comes to shove, money wins. A&E is in a tough spot. Phil offended some, so the company took some action........but they were careful enough and lucky enough (lucky in that season 4 is basically a wrap) that they can now bide their time with the "we suspended him" thing.

We'll see how long that lasts.

Any comment on "Rodeo Girls"? Treating women as sex objects is something I wouldn't expect out of A&E.

Oh, wait........follow the money. If it sells, they're in. If it offends, they're out.

2 facedness. That's what upsets me. . and ass sells? Have at it boys. "Redneck" sells? Have at it boys....we're going to make some money. Ooooooooooops.....the dude from "redneck" offended someone? He's gone. We still have our . and ass show we can make money on.

I personally think if you asked Phil if he cared if he was suspended by A&E or not he would not care... I personally think this is getting way too much publicity...

The only thing that upsets me about this story was when I found out a reality show's season opener had more viewers for A&E than Breaking Bad's series finale. How is that possible?

It's what turns the dial, as they say. Same goes with the Kardasians, Idol, the Real World and all other semi-fake/seni-real shows. That's how Justin Beiber and 1D can sell 1 trillion records each and real bands get 1/1000th of that.

I don't think it's bad. This stuff appeals to a wide range of people and this majority consume what's popular.

I know I was part of this majority when I was a kid or teenager. Wouldn't liking Spider-man, Transformers and Star Wars fall into this category too?

I used to worry about stuff like this until I realized that, if everyone in America liked Breaking Bad, then I wouldn't be able to feel superior compared to most Americans. It really is a good feeling when you think about it.

So..... not knowing anything about this, why is arch and others talking about free speech and PC just because this guy is getting criticized by those who disagree with him? A&E is taking action against him because they don't want to lose money from people turning off the show, or network, which is a response to what their audience believes. Again, it's all just a matter of people expressing their beliefs, with some inevitable economic consequences given the particular circumstance. So, I ask again, why are we talking about abrogation of free speech? Seems like everyone is free to say whatever they like.....

Just throwing this out there. This is from an interview Phil Robertson did a couple of months ago about the show and how the show's producers were doing things.

The head of the Robertson clan says ‘Jesus’ was omitted from his family prayers.

When you think of A&E’s Duck Dynasty, “offensive” is probably the last word that comes to mind — yet that’s the exact word creating an issue between the show’s cast and crew. Star Phil Robertson is making waves, claiming that A&E is censoring his family’s mentions of Jesus — and that doesn’t sit well with him.

Phil’s interview was actually conducted by Sports Spectrum Magazine in April 2013, but is now making its way around the internet. Here’s what went down between Phil and the Duck Dynasty crew, in his own words:

When we prayed, we said, ‘In Jesus’ name, Amen.’ I don’t have a verse that says you must always pray in the name of Jesus, but it’s a very good idea, I think. So they would just have me say, ‘Thank you, Lord, for the food. Thank you for loving us.’ So I said, ‘Why would you cut out ‘In Jesus’ name’? They said, ‘Well, those editors are probably doing that. They don’t want to offend some of the Muslims, or something.’

In the interview, Phil reveals this is actually the second issue he’s had with the show’s editors. Earlier in the series, he says, they inserted bleeps to make it look like the family was swearing, when they weren’t.

“If you want that, you can get all of that you want,” Phil says about profanity. “Just change the station. There’s plenty of that!”

While Phil’s interview offers only one side of the story, E! Online reached out to the network, and received no comment.

I'm amazed at what piques people's interest and how offended so many get by other people's opinions. A reality star has a different opinion than my own?! Oh No!!!

Based on what I've seen that he said, and Lord knows I haven't gone out of my way to read anything in detail, I don't think he should have been suspended. Just as I didn't think, based again on what I had read she said, that Paula Deen should have been put through what happened to her.

What does get me is the hypocrisy on both sides of this issue. If Phil had been a Muslim and said all Christians were going to hell, the outcry from the people now supporting him would be wild. If he had bashed right wing Christians, the people wanting him fired for being a hateful bigot would be outraged at his suspension. I'm so sick of people picking and choosing their outrage based on their own point of view.

If I got offended by ignorance I would walk around in a perpetual state of angst. Let people say what they want and worry about how you treat others in life. It's really just that simple, and a great way to live a happy life.

J/C. Just an off-topic, football side note: Phil played quarterback at Louisiana Tech ahead of Terry Bradshaw. In 1 episode he throws a nice one.

FWIW, A&E is this guys boss. They employ him. So when he makes a statement that the network doesn't agree with, they have every right to suspend or terminate him.

About 10 years ago, a VP of HR at National City Bank made the statement in the press that the Bank would be going on a hiring binge. Don't remember his exact words, but his quote got him fired. Apparently, for whatever reason, the bank didn't like him saying what he said.

As for the show itself, best I can tell is that these guys came up with a duck call that is pretty popular and apparently they've made a load of money off of it.

My understanding is they run a very successful business.

Having said all of that, I tried to watch it once just to see what the hubbub was all about. I lasted about 15 minutes and had to turn it off.

not my cup of tea. Don't agree with the guys statements about gays or blacks. But he's entitled to his opinion, just like A&E is entitled to dislike it and fire/suspend him.

I agree with everything you said except this.. it has nothing to do with whether A&E agrees with him.. it has everything to do with A&E not wanting to appear insensitive or have the wrong people start boycotting their advertisers and throwing a fit...

Is it that you want to take me that literally

Of course I understand they don't want to appear insensitive. Isn't that another way of saying, we don't agree with it (at least our public face doesn't)

FWIW, A&E is this guys boss. They employ him. So when he makes a statement that the network doesn't agree with, they have every right to suspend or terminate him.

I agree with everything you said except this.. it has nothing to do with whether A&E agrees with him.. it has everything to do with A&E not wanting to appear insensitive or have the wrong people start boycotting their advertisers and throwing a fit...

And that is perfectly within A&E's rights, is it not?

Why are people not talking about his Civil Rights comment?

I think it comes down to people agreeing with his gay rights stance, and feeling, that by him being suspended, it is culturally unacceptable for them to have the same views. It is an attack on their beliefs as well.

The Civil rights comments, which I feel are way more damning, are a societal mine field. His statement that JIm Crow was not bad for blacks, is not as egregious as Armadinejad's Holocaust Denial, but is similarly indefensible and ignorant of history.
Even if you agree with his views, it is well known that society shuns these views. I think people simply ignore this part of the equation because it weakens their argument against him being suspended and the perception that their views on gay rights are being shunned by society.

It is much easier for people to defend him when they say

"He was suspended because of his stance on gay rights" than it is to say,

"He was suspended because he believes blacks are better off under JIm Crow laws"

If you acknowledge the second half of his statements, it is much easier to see why the A and E brand could not be associated with him.

I just think it's funny that they suspended him for this plus according to a previous interview Phil did they (A&E) asked the family not use the word Jesus in their prayer that they say at the end of the show when they are sitting down for their meal yet A&E was putting bleeps in the show to make it look like the family was cussing at different times.

Have you seen or read a quote from him that specifically refers to "Jim Crow"? The only place I have seen this referenced is in commentary, not his words.

The quote on this subject I have seen stated that while he was working WITH black people, doing the same lowly manual labor as he himself was "white trash", and poor, the blacks seemed reasonably content and were singing.

I would agree that there is hatred, and vileness, and bigotry, and a desire to do evil to another involved in this. I have seen NONE of those things from what Mr. Robertson said, and ALL of these things from the other side.

The man expressed no hatred or bigotry or intolerance for any fellow man. He may be a backwoods redneck, but he sure seems to be a better man than many who are writing about him.
