Never saw you twist off like that, bro. It's hilarious.

Believe me about this one..............you can type out a long, well-thought out argument that might contain one thing that is questionable, and posters will focus in on the questionable part while completely IGNORING the overall point of the message. Trust me on that one.

Oh, btw..................you were wrong.

Just happened to see this on NFL.com

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000...al-and-mistrust

So, it's been reported that we have something like 40+ million in CAP space (not sure that's really accurate) and that was before the CAP increased today, and now we add back in Bess salary,, wouldn't that mean we have about 50 or so Million in CAP space? Or am I looking at it wrong?

What, taking a picture of yourself naked and posting it to Twitter when you knew your account was being monitored and around bongs and other pot-looking material, saying stupid and crazy stuff - isn't expressing your feelings in a 'positive way?'

We have not only our cap space for this year, but have carried over cap space every year since the new CBA was signed. We could have almost $50 million in space, even though our salary ttal might not indicate that much.

It certainly looks like he has a substance abuse problem of some sort, even if it's just alcohol. He gets WAY out there and does stupid stuff.... like dropping the ball. Tweeting a nude picture of himself. Pictures with weed sitting in it. He's begging for attention. Negative or positive, doesn't seem to matter. He's out there.

He may be bipolar, and this may also be the cause of why he acts so crazy sometimes. He can get meds for that.

Acting (acting?) crazy like this probably has ruined his career. And if it did, you aint' seen nothin' yet.

And it looks like he is now gone. Link

You could see this one coming, from the moment they planned to void the guarantees in his contract.

The Browns announced this morning they were releasing troubled wide receiver Davone Bess, along with wide receiver Brian Tyms and linebacker Paul Hazel.

The talented wideout raised eyebrows with a series of questionable Twitter photos, and eventually landed in a mental health facility after an incident with police.

Bess overcame a rough upbringing to get to the NFL, and at this point, the hope is that he can get his life back in order, beyond any concerns about his ability to play football

The inevitable happened.

Also glad we released some Dead wood...got a feeling we will be upgrading some of the bottom of the barrel - Tyms was there for a couple of games...rather have Cooper and Little for another season.

I truly hope Bess gets over the mess that he has created over the past 2+ years and can get back into the league and contribute. I also hope it is for a NFC team that we don't ever play and we don't have to think about him much.

the odds are that his career from here go much like Stallworths. A couple 1year contracts for different teams followed by a retirement.

So, do we have to "eat" the 3mil in dead money? Or do we recoup it somehow? I know we have a lot of cap, but 3mil is a substantial sum and we could get a starter level ILB, RB or OG with that kind of money.

Still can''t believe we gave him that kind of long term money with the known issues...and a guy like Dansby only got 2mil for one year.

To put it into persepctive: Bess was going to be our 8th/9th biggest cap cost this season no matter what he did 2013.

Yup, just as was expected, he's OUTTA HERE.

Too bad really. lots of folks that know more than I thought it was a good pick up. I read the stats and thought.. cool.

the think is, what did the Dolphins know and when did they know it. That might be the next big question.

Wouldn't it be something if an investigation turned up evidence that the Browns were purposely misled by the Phins., I'd laugh my butt off if they had to give back everything we gave up to get Bess... Now that right there would be funny..

Didn't we give up a couple of picks for him.. Could that mean we get those picks back from the Phins.. now tell me that woudln't make you all smile a little LOL

Think about this, maybe that's why Farmer didn't want the Phins GM job? Just a thought.

My guess (and I stress the word 'guess') is that they are now confident that they can recoup some or all of that dead money. They've been working on this for quite a while.

Reports I've seen say they are going to try to get the money voided due to his arrest and behavior but I've seen nothing definite yet.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I am pushing/hoping that they do.

People want to say "oh that would be shady, he's having mental issues" and etc, but I don't buy into it. Maybe, *maybe* if he didn't go off on all his various Twitter and media tangents, but he did. Didn't produce, likely was a locker room issue, didn't even play the entire season (which wouldn't have made a damn but of difference anyway) and the list continues.

What money has he "earned"?

I say if anything, give him $500 bucks and a free gift card to Amazon for his juke he put on Webb or whoever that defender was for the TD cause that basically was Bess's only productive play that comes to mind

I have to admit that I had very high hopes for Bess.To say that he was a colossal disappointment is an understatement.

Cleveland Browns release troubled WR Davone Bess, off the hook for his guaranteed $3.067 million | cleveland.com
http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ss..._medium=twitter

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns have released troubled receiver Davone Bess, who engaged in a series of bizarre behaviors and was recently arrested at Ft. Lauderdale airport for assaulting a police officer.

The Browns owed Bess, 28, a guaranteed $3.067 million for 2014, but they don't have to pay it because the previous regime put specific language in the contract to protect the club in the event of such a scenario.

Bess left the Browns for personal reasons at the end of the last season and missed the last two games after posting a photo of himself on social media with what looked like marijuana.

Bess' release ends an ill-fated saga that began with the Browns acquiring him in a trade with the Miami Dolphins that included mid-round draft picks. Days after the trade, the Browns rewarded Bess with a three-year contract extension worth $11.million, including $5.75 million guaranteed. The big payday came weeks after Bess was hospitalized in Florida against his will for irrational behavior.

In an interview with The Plain Dealer's Branson Wright last month, Bess said "betrayal and mistrust" led to a series of bizarre incidents that culminated in his arrest and led to him checking himself into a medical treatment facility.

"I haven't talked to the Browns [front office], and I don't know how they feel about me," said Bess, who caught 42 passes for 362 yards and two touchdowns in 2013. "I see they made changes, and change is often good. I did have communication with [offensive coordinator] Kyle Shanahan. He sent out a group message [to the offensive players] and I replied … I'm looking forward to the season and getting better on and off the field."

Bess admitted himself into a medical treatment facility in Florida shortly after the arrest. He also posted a nude photo of himself in the days after the incident.

"I was in a point of my life where there was a lot of betrayal and mistrust and I didn't know how to handle it," Bess said. "So I went and got some help. I went through the process and learned it's OK to express my feelings but I have to do it in a positive way."

Bess said most of his issues involved his family and those close to him, but he didn't elaborate on the specifics. It isn't the first time Bess has received help at a medical facility, but it's the first time Bess took it upon himself.

"I learned to be able to talk about things built up over the years," Bess said. "I handled my emotions the wrong way."

Things came to a head for Bess when he was arrested in January at the Ft. Lauderdale airport.

According to police, Bess was acting irrationally and was dancing and singing as his pants repeatedly fell down. When an officer approached Bess and asked if he was all right, Bess didn't respond. He then grabbed a cup of coffee that didn't belong to him and squeezed it, causing the hot liquid to spill on the officer's uniform, the report said.

"It was a bunch of misunderstandings," Bess said. "From my side, I was targeted and that's all it comes down to. I didn't assault anyone. I didn't throw coffee on anyone. I had my headphones on listening to music, and the next thing I know these officers walked up on me, and they took it too far by twisting my wrist -- doing extra stuff."

Bess led the NFL in dropped passes this season, including a few key ones in a loss to the Chiefs.

Clearly, the Browns didn't do enough homework on Bess before they made the trade and gave him the big new contract. Fortunately for them, they didn't surrender any picks in the deal, just moved back in rounds four and seven. The Dolphins gave up Bess and picks 111 (fourth round) and 217 (seventh round). The Browns gave Miami their 104th (fourth round) and 164 (fifth round).

The Browns also released receiver Brian Tyms and linebacker Paul Hazel.

Very good and kudos to Banner for protecting the club, although I think that's pretty common for FA contracts to have that kind of stuff in it, as in: if you go crazy and don't show up for work, forget about the guaranteed money.

If it's NOT common in FA contracts, then it most probably means they knew his "medical" and just took a gamble. Can't blame them much.

If we get back all of the 3mil, then it's all good. We can turn that money into a starter at another position

HORRAY FOR "SPECIFIC LANGUAGE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But seriously, Banner did good here cause everyone wanted to push him cause of the known troubles prior to the trade. Sounds like Banner was aware and was hopefully to take a minimal, low-risk gamble on Bess.

I, like many others, only have passing knowledge of his situation. I don't care much about the money at this point; I merely hope that we are not abandoning him in his time of needed support...

What might be even more shady is what Miami may have done in this mess. Now that may turn out to be the shady move of the year.. LOL

What if they knew about his "HEAD" Problems and hid it? I think they are supposed to report physical injuries, but are they are they required to report a mental illness?

I don't think so. I think both parties knew about it. Read Memphis's post from Mary Kay - Brown's protected themselves with "specific language" in Bess's contract so it seems like a low-risk ordeal that they were aware could turn good or bad. It turned bad, and now they can release him and not pay him due to the added details in the contract.

Thumbs up for Banner.

I remember wondering why we didn't release him right after the weirdness and sort of remember reading that it was time sensitive to a specific day in March. Cause I remember filing away...OK that is when we will release him.

Can only assume that after March something...it was not applicable to the Cap.

I heard something similar about a March timeframe helping for cap purposes. We should see a flurry of cuts soon. Most early cuts (like DQ) are more of a nice-thing to help good guys go shop themselves, and for teams that aren't worried about going near the cap. If Bess falls under that cap timeframe, this could be a sign that we intend to spend somewhere close to the limit.

On Bess, I will say I liked the move on draft day. I thought he was a reliable, hands veteran that we've needed. Now, I like the decision to cut him even more!

I liked the move, too. By all accounts, he was reported to be a "pro's pro."

Now, my big questions are: Has he been working on getting well enough to play like he did 2+ years ago? Is there anything to salvage from him being here?

Folks go through rough patches in their lives. Not all of them permanently crash and burn. If Davone can get his life in order, he'd still look good in a Browns uni.

What's the word on his current status? Anybody know?
