Ouch! http://espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/story/_/id/10187713/tony-romo-dallas-cowboys-miss-rest-seasonDallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will miss the rest of the season due to a back injury, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The Cowboys (8-7) host the Philadelphia Eagles (9-6) on Sunday with the winner capturing the NFC East title. Kyle Orton likely will now get the start against the Eagles. Romo said Sunday he would undergo an MRI on his back Monday, but he didn't believe it would jeopardize his availability for the game against Philadelphia. Romo said his back, which was sore coming into Sunday's victory over the Washington Redskins, troubled him after a hit in the first half. "That triggered it a little bit," Romo said Sunday. "Whatever the kid did on that one play, it really sent something that didn't feel comfortable. "But it's in a completely different spot than the back stuff I had last year, so that's a good sign." Romo had surgery in April to remove a cyst from his back and did not take a snap until the team reached training camp in Oxnard, Calif., in July. Romo was noticeably limping as he carried out play fakes on running plays. In the fourth quarter, he appeared to be in trouble even more after spinning free from the pocket on a third-down throw to Miles Austin. Romo appeared to kick the back of his leg as he escaped trouble, but he did not miss a snap. Romo completed 17 of 27 passes for 226 yards, including the game-winning touchdown to DeMarco Murray on fourth-and-goal from the Washington 10 with 1:08 to play. Romo has dealt with numerous injuries over the years, including a broken rib in 2011. He hurt his ribs again in last year's season-ending loss to the Redskins. ESPN.com Cowboys reporter Todd Archer contributed to this report.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

As much as I hate the Cowboys, it would be kind of neat to see Orton somehow play flawlessly.

I could see Orton coming in and lighting it up. A lot of these backup QBs come in and perform great for a couple games until soeone figures them out. Orton can sling the ball to multiple receivers... it's been one of his strengths since Purdue. For one game, Orton is dangerous.

Hell, I'd take a collection of late round picks and would settle for a conditional 7th rounder if pushed on the matter.

We would have to give the Cowgirls at least that much to take Weedy.

Oh, I don't know. They've done some ridiculous crap down there in Dallas. Besides, we have the Alec Scheiner connection.

Eagles should blow them out if he truly doesn't play. I don't see Orton winning.
Eagles are My dark horse if they make it into the Playoffs.

I've never thought Orton was a bad QB. He may come in and surprise a few folks. He did it in Chicago and Denver so why not?

The last time you saw Kyle Orton, he was being benched for Tim Tebow.
So think about that.

Its a herniated disc that will require surgery.
I'm dealing with one myself. On my worst days my wife has to put my socks on for me.

Dealing with two herniated discs right now myself.
Before I had this problem, I would have shared the "I can't believe he's not playing" belief.
Now, I know the pain. There's days I can barely get out of bed, much less go out and play a football game.

My sympathies to you and Topdawg - I have a herniated L-4 (I think its L-4, maybe L-3) - and every morning I'm sweating bullets to get my left sock on and my left shoe tied. I get out of bed in the morning walking like a 90 year old; on a good day, it eventually loosens up. Still scared of the idea of surgery, though - I have a doctor/nurse/hospital phobia. Hell, I needed tranq's for the MRI.

That's too bad.
I've always thought Romo got a bit of a bad rap.
I don't really care about him or the Cowboys, and I wouldn't touch him in fantasy, but the guy has as many big comebacks as he does spectacular chokes.
Call it 'Peyton Manning Syndrome' ... they're labeled as chokers until they get a ring, and then they're suddenly elite.
Not many people seem to remember, but for years anything about Peyton was tagged with '...but he can't win in big games.'

Not worth it. Dude needs back surgery and you throw him out there? Hope they're planning on drafting a QB.

Romo got an epidural injection. I wonder if they work?
http://espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/story/_/id/10191214/tony-romo-dallas-cowboys-gets-epidural-injection
I did 2 rounds of 3 epidural injections, and they did little for me. They eliminated numbness in my right leg, which was a positive, but they did nothing for the pain in my back.

The first two I got for my herniated disc worked miracles pain wise. Was still stiff and not as mobile as before the disc. The 2 after didn't touch the pain. Finally got a discectomy fall of 2012. Best decision I could have made.

I don't care what anyone says, I'd take him in a second over any QB the Browns have had since '99... even with a bad back.
I've never understood the almost unanimous hate for the guy.

Romo is a guy who can be great ..... and then make the key mistake that costs your team the win.
I remember the Denver game, where he threw 5 TD passes. However, the memory that people hold is the horrible mistake late in the game where he threw the INT that led to the Cowboys losing the game.
He would be 100 times better than anyone we have had though.

Romo is not the problem in Dallas.. they have bigger problems than TR and he's better than any QB we have on our roster right now.

I don't think it's hate, I think it's raised expectations that he hasn't lived up to. He's the QB for "America's Team" run by Jerry Jones They haven't done anything in the post-season with him at QB, so he's seen as less than what he actually is. Also, to be fair, we've all witnessed him blow some big games at the end. That criticism is fair.

It's very fair criticism... now you factor in the monsterous contract that Tony is banking on and the criticism and expectations are increased. I'd trade Weeden, Jason and Alex for one Romo though. He's lightyears ahead of the mentioned players.

JC Some say Cowboys are better off with Orton (since a lot of you predicted he would play good, which I don't necessarily disagree with!): http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/12/28/some-say-cowboys-are-better-off-with-orton/ Quote:
Many believe that the Cowboys have no chance to beat the Eagles without Tony Romo at quarterback. Many think that Cowboys have what quickly has become the most overused NFL-related cliche’ — “a puncher’s chance.”
Some actually believe that the Cowboys have a better chance to win with Kyle Orton in and Tony Romo out. Some of those have past connections to the Cowboys.
Count former Cowboys (and 49ers and Eagles and Bills and Bengals) receiver Terrell Owens among those who think Dallas can reverse its recent fate in NFC East title games with Orton under center.
“I do,” Owens told NFL Network, via the Dallas Morning News. “If you look at the situation, if it shakes out and it’s a shootout, late in the game everybody is expecting Tony Romo to throw some interceptions. Again, not to take away anything from what he’s done this year. He’s played spectacular. But going into situations like this, everybody expects the obvious, and that’s for him to make a mistake, a huge mistake.”
In all fairness, Owens isn’t exactly unbiased. Despite his passive-aggressive “that’s my quarterback” nonsense after a bye-week Mexican vacation potentially undermined Romo’s preparation for an early 2008 playoff game against the Giants, Owens reportedly believed at one point that Romo and tight end Jason Witten were conspiring to get the ball more to Witten and less to the receivers.
Owens isn’t the only former Cowboys player who believes Orton could help the team win. Quarterback Danny White, who served both as backup and starter in Dallas, told The FnA Podcast on AM570 FOX Sports LA that the Cowboys will have a better chance of winning with Romo out and Orton in.
“As crazy as this may sound, I think their chances of winning the game just got better,” White said. “I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen backup quarterbacks come in and it just raises the level of intensity, their level of concentration. They’ll either crater and go right in the tank, or they’ll rise to the occasion. Every guy will play just a little bit better.”
While fellow former Cowboys quarterback Babe Laufenberg stopped short of saying the team is better off sans Romo, Laufenberg thinks the offense will be in good hands.
“I really do have great confidence in Orton,” Laufenberg told Barry Horn of the Dallas Morning News. “When the Cowboys signed him they thought he was the best guy out there. He has gone from the 45th most important player on the roster to No. 1.”
The Cowboys are hoping to finish No. 1 in the NFC East for the first time since 2009, after losing a chance to do so in 2011 and 2012. If that happens, both the Cowboys (since 1997) and Orton (for his career) will move more than No. 1 game above .500 in the win-loss column.
