http://www.bloggingwv.com/unique-underwater-restaurant-with-stunning-views/The first-ever undersea restaurant in the world has been introduced at the Hilton Maldives Resort & Spa. Ithaa (which is pronounced “eet-ha” and means “pearl” in the language of the Maldives, Dhivehi) sits five meters below the waves of the Indian Ocean, surrounded by a vibrant coral reef and encased in clear acrylic, offering diners 270 degrees of panoramic underwater views. This innovative restaurant is the first of its kind in the world, and is part of a US $5 million re-build of Rangalifinolhu Island, one of the twin islands that make up Hilton Maldives Resort & Spa. This re-build includes the construction of 79 of the most luxurious beach villas in the country as well as the Spa Village, a self-contained, over-water “resort-within-a-resort” consisting of a spa, restaurant and 21 villas. And not to be outdone by the views, the food is as spectacular as the underwater setting. The cuisine is dedicated to the fine balance of western food items with a Maldivian flavor, the wine concept is equally exciting, offering diners the perfect opportunity to discover the wines of the prestigious Champagne house Louis Roederer. (The average dinner price ranges from $187 to $220)

Yeah...but if I were already staying at that Hilton Resort & Spa, or whatever it is, $200 for a dinner wouldn't kill me.

That is the attitude to take......plus,,,who the hell wants to be the richest person in the cemetery anyway??
$200 for a dinner for two is steep, not not that far out of the question if it is top notch and includes a nice bottle of wine.

It actually has to be one of the most unique places in the world to eat............the cost would be of no concern when you think about it! It is not like you could go there every weekend...............more then likely a once in a lifetime deal...............so yes................the cost is priceless! It would be awesome!

I would love to visit this place and the ice palace eventually.

That'd be something nice to do and splurge. I'm not exactly Richie Rich, so 200 bones is a lot. But to do it once would be fine. Just hopefully the food doesn't suck. Which it looks to be seafood, which I hate. I didn't see any cows or chickens swimming by.

Yes, we must get that Hilton Maldives Resort Spa Island rebuilt as soon as possible so the elite won't miss out on their $200 dinners. Meanwhile, back in the real world, about 80% of the people left homeless by the tsunami are still without permanent housing. Sushi anyone?

The Maldives is a stunning place of amazing natural beauty. I have been lucky enough to go there for the past 2 years and it is breathtaking.
My first visit was in the April, after the Tsunami hit in the December. The people we spoke to all said that the best thing for the region is to have the holiday resorts back up and running as soon as possible. All of the staff are from the surrounding islands in the Maldives and their families rely upon them sending back their wages and tips to support their families.
The restaurant looks amazing and well worth the money for that unique experience. If you ever get an opportunity to go - take it!

You should send all your money to have homes built for those people if you're so concerened.

I'll bet most of the time you just see fish swimming around, not rays and other neat stuff. Maybe I'll just take a sandwich and my snorkling mask.

That looks pretty neat - but I could never eat there. I got claustrophobic just looking at the pictures.

Wow, the place looks really cool. At the prices floating around this thread, however, I'll never see it. Oh well...

Well, if one is going to spend $2000 per person for a round trip flight to India or Sri Lanka, then whatever it costs to get over to the Maldives... then spend $800-1000 a night to stay at the Hilton Maldives... that $200 for dinner doesn't look so bad..

You swim in through an airlock in the bottom, so don't wear your good clothes.
