Excellent post, but it won't hold water w/the "we hate the FO" crowd. Logic and reason are not their guide. It's all about hate, revenge, and I told you so................

Geez, pretty harsh on yourself there.

Especially the "I told you so".......dude, you are the king of saying (SAYING) "I told you so."

Seriously, you have opinions. That's great. Others have opinions, and you rail on them. And yes, you are the king of "I told you so".

This has become annoying. It's obvious he has you on ignore.Yet you never miss an opportunity to blast him.
That makes me wonder why.It seems like such a waste of time and energy to ridicule some one at every turn, yet that person has no idea you're doing it.I have to deduce that the motivation is something else.
The options I'm left with are not very flattering at all.

Considering the reaction by fans and media to Chud's firing, how could he possibly have been a scapegoat? The scapegoat ploy is supposed to be successful; this one wasn't. I suppose you could say that the FO really thought it would work, and it's backfiring on them. But this interpretation is just as implausible because it assumes the FO was completely ignorant of what was about to happen when firing a coaching staff after a single year having had told everyone they were here for the long haul. Conclusion: your scapegoat interpretation doesn't hold up under scrutiny.

Well possibly we can look at another conclusion that doesn't hold water. The Johnny Football conclusion.

Many of the very same people who uphold the decision of the firing of Chud, well they say they are disappointed about it, but you wouldn't know it from reading the board.

You can see it posted about what this team needs is a fiery QB or team leader. That the team would respond to such a player and our team is devoid of that. Some of those very same people said they didn't believe we had the talent to win at several positions. They blamed it on the players.

You hire a rookie HC without the weapons to win and expect things to improve? Scapegoat may have been the wrong phrase to use. But there are different avenues that can be looked at as to why he was fired and none of them give fans a reason to believe in this FO.

1. This FO's very first big decision was to hire a HC. If we are to believe what we were told, they blew it big time. So why wouldn't the fan base question their ability moving forward? How would that inspire the fan base to trust in their decision making?

2. Building for the long haul. I believe that would indicate that this owner and FO is asking that the fan base be patient. That they understand it will take time to build a team. Yet at the same time, they themselves seemed to show no patience with Chud. Many see this as a double standard. Some see it as more of a knee jerk reaction.

While it's true that we don't know what all has went on behind the scenes, if a FO is going to dictate things to the HC, which is another possibility here, some don't see that as a good thing either.

I have even seen the comparison to how Chip Kelly is doing in Philly. Yet he has a QB with the highest QBR rating in the NFL and Shady McCoy as weapons.

3. They didn't "get their guy". IF in fact Kelly was their guy and they didn't land him, it could mean that Chud was simply a fill in for a year unless he hit a home run. Some, including me do not see that as a positive either.

The funny thing is, most everyone has given them credit for the good things we at least felt they did. the signing of Kruger, Bryant and getting Hoyer. Getting a first round draft pick for TRich. Yet we didn't see the dominate D we were looking for. Was that on the personnel or the coaching? It appears Horton has shown he has the ability to build such a D. But was he given the time to do so?

It's not a black and white thing. People see good and bad in what they've done so far. I haven't seen anyone asking that Banner or Lombardi be fired.

I did see arch say that he puts them on the same time frame moving forward that they put Chud on. One more year. But considering the timetable they set for Chud, is that really so unreasonable?

At what point do you hold those at the top responsible for the decisions they make? If they strike out again at the HC position, whiff on the QB? When can one reasonably not expect the same accountability on them that they expect from others?

So posting things like this by Vers..........

.....seem perfectly fine without those he's saying these things about responding seems more acceptable to you?

So he throws stones, decides not to read those responding, and those he's addressing should have no recourse or it doesn't appear flattering to you?

Maybe you should address the one throwing the labels and stones around to begin with.

I understand what you're saying Peen, and I don't expect everyone to see it in the same light.

I just wonder how it will be viewed if this FO fails yet again with the next HC, QB and so on.

If the fan base will hold them to the same standard they held Chud to. At some point accountability rests with those doing the hiring and drafting as much as it does if not more than the HC.

I don't know who cast the first stone, don't care either.
But I don't see Vers following Arch around from thread to thread to thread posting snide comments either.
Thicker skin might just be the answer here.

These three interpretations seem much more plausible to me. I'm inclined to accept number 3 as closest to the truth, although I don't see this as much of a problem as you do. I'm far more concerned with who the Browns have at QB than they do at HC. While I'm closer to Vers on this issue, I don't agree that the other side isn't thinking logically. Both sides can think through the issue logically and still come to different conclusions..... (although, some do it better than others.) I appreciate your thoughtful approach.
