Father accused of brutally beating baby daughter

Baby in critical condition PORT ORCHARD, Wash. – A three-month-old girl is clinging to life after what social workers are calling a brutal beating, allegedly at the hands of her own father.

Prosecutors say the 22-year-old got upset because the baby, named Genessa, wouldn't stop crying. In court Tuesday, it was the baby's father who was wiping away tears.

Genessa is in intensive care with multiple skull fractures, at least four broken ribs, swelling in the brain, eye hemorrhaging and possible liver damage.

"She's really sore, really swollen, really bruised. She's hanging in there," says Patrick Smith, Genessa's grandfather. He came to court Tuesday afternoon to see the man accused of doing this to her.

"I want the man to pay. I want him to go in and just pay for everything that he has done."





Police say the father of 3-month old Genessa admitted he hit and threw the baby after she wouldn't stop crying.

Kitsap County investigators say the assault happened Monday night inside the family's home east of Port Orchard. According to court documents, the father confessesd he had been frustrated because Genessa and the family dog wouldn't stop crying. He grabbed the baby's ribcage with both hands and squeezed hard for about five to ten minutes. When Genessa wouldn't stop crying, the father said he struck Genessa in the head, then threw her to his bed. She bounced off, hitting the floor head first.

The baby's mother was at work when the assault took place. She's now with the child at the hospital in Tacoma.

The man who lives with the family, as well as neighbors, say they're shocked because the suspect has shown no signs of this kind of behavior.

"The mom's a good mom, and I thought he was a good dad," says neighbor Ward Garrison. "It's all strange to me that anything like this would happen"

Smith acknowledges the suspect can be a good father, but says he has a darker side. "He has mood changes," says Smith. "He has no patience with anything."

The father should be formally charged on Thursday with assault of a child. His bail is set at $500,000.



I hope to God someone beats him and lets him slowly die someday. This makes me SICK!! I hope he rots in hell!!!!!!!!

If I could do it myself, the flight and job would have been done, BUT, that is GOD's job, not ours...... All we can do is pray for the baby and ALSO pray for the Father also, kind of ironic, but he needs a prayer...He will need it more than us because the guilt of hurting his baby will be his undoing.....

Once again ... see my post in the other thread about govt. sponsored sterilizations. I think we'd solve crap like this AND abortions (and possibly things like child driven welfare) if people that didn't want babies could just get sterilized for free. I think the short term cost would get recovered in the long term.

Where is the logic behind this.

"Man, my daughter won't stop crying----I Know; I'll wail on her for awhile until she stops."

How does that make any sense.

This guy definitely has some anger management issues. Thats the only reason any sane person would conclude that a raging beating would quiet the cries of an infant/toddler/child/what-have-you.

Its just ridiculous.

What kind of person can't deal with a crying baby or dog.

Obviously someone with some serious issues. I kind of feel bad for him. Lord knows he couldn't have been in the right state of mind when he did it.

He was angry and didn't know how to control his anger----he'll definitely pay a price for this.

My prayers and thoughts are with Genessa..................It bothers me so much to hear about things like this - child abuse in general - I look at my daughter - ..........................................how can people do this kind of thing?

Idiocy - and like someone mentioned - how did this "man" think beating this girl would get her to quit crying?

I have no respect for people like this. None.

All this guy did was lose his head for a few minutes.




I think his punishment should be the same, and he lose his head for a few minutes.

This makes me really upset. He should rot in jail forever! If he's human than this will eat at him every waking moment. I am really upset upon reading about this. I hope and prey the baby will be ok and may god bless her and be with her.

That just might happen once he gets to prison and the other inmates learn what he did. Child abusers often "get theirs" in prison.

Pray for him yes... beat the crap out of him... I don't care what the story he gives is if I knew him I would beat the living stuffing out of him.

Excel, I have to admit, this is the first time I've heard of being fixed for free, at least here in the U.S. and yes I do think it would be a good idea. I know it's done in other parts of the world and it's not always a choice.
