That's great news.

I do think that it has more to do with Miami than us though. From what I have heard, Miami has some issues in their front office that caused a lot of potential candidates to not even interview for the job.

Probably the most positive news for the orgainzation that someone near the top wants to remain here rather than take a promotion (and probably a pretty big pay increase).

Does this imply the beginning of the end for Lombardi, or perhaps reduced responsibilities?

So, apparently we are less toxic than the Incognito organization. Hey, it's a start

This is Fantastic News!

He was our only FO rep at the Senior Bowl. Don't know how good he is at evaluation, just that he's NOT Lombardi!

Excellent!

Haslam HAS to know how toxic Lombardi is here.
Farmer apparently was not ruled out in Miami so hey, could be good news.

Not what I meant. That isn't happening. At least not yet.

I meant, it's interesting he would choose to be a a Co-GM here rather than take the Phins job. The media would lead you to believe THIS was the worst job in sports.

Clearly Farmer thinks that's not the case.

I truly was 100% prepared to say bye to Farmer, but this is awesome news. Maybe Banner/Jimmy took a little off their salaries and bumped Farmer's salary to get him to stay? In either case, indeed fantastic news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's pretty well known in the media fans didn't like the hire.
I've not really heard anyone positive about the guy.
Proactively keeping Farmer might be a sign Lombardi could go
or it may not. It's just odd Farmer withdrew from the Phins GM race.

From what people have said it is a very odd situation. The coach is already in place and the owner acts very strange during interviews.

If Farmer has learned anything from his time with the Browns, it's how to sniff out a bad working environment...

Or he's getting a big sniff at a GM opportunity right here soon if Banner fails to get a true franchise QB.

I have said this before, but I wonder if Farmer becomes more prominent in the FO and Lombardi is given less authority.

I don't think they would fire him due to the poor PR it would generate, but pushing him quietly into an advisory role might be effective enough.

this could also give ML a face saving exit in a year or two... you " hey I came in helped turn the ship, and now time to go back to the studio" kind of exit. Or something like that

That's IF ML fails...........and he might not. I'm expecting him to, but maybe he learned. He seemed to have been right on Hoyer. Maybe having Farmer help him, and him helping farmer with a even decent scouting department we'll strike gold this draft.

Who knows right?

Years ago we "traded" them a front office/cap specialist type named Dawn Aponte. She is in charge of the team in many ways. She can, and has, vetoed decisions by the GM. She controls the purse strings for the franchise, nit the GM.

That is, in large part, why many people want nothing to do with the Dolphins GM job. Too many limitations.

A woman with the purse strings?

That explains the deals that gave Mike Wallace and Dannell Ellerbe got all that money! She went shopping.

The Browns are poised to make a mind-boggling gaffe even before they hire their next coach.
They’re prepared to lose Assistant General Manager Ray Farmer and keep General Manager Mike Lombardi.

I’m flabbergasted by that possibility because it should be the other way around.

Well Marla...............are you going to write how smart the Browns were for keeping Farmer, or that it is a good sign that Farmer chose to stay in Cleveland, or that this is a good move in any way?

I won't be holding my breath waiting for that article.

I'll say it, the Browns were smart to retain Farmer if that's what they did. What I mean by that is, we heard that Farmer was in serious contention for the Miami job, but we don't know if he'd have been the chosen one.

So, did we do anything to retain him, or did he decide that he wasn't in the running (ala Josh McDaniels here) so he elected to stay put.

Having said all that, I'm glad he's staying put.

Oh,, who's Marla?

Marla is one of his little digs at people that don't agree with his all knowing. Just disagree with him............he'll go all nuts telling you how you don't know football, and how he only talks football, and how he can't stand people not talking football and the insults others throw around.

His MO is pretty obvious, and many have caught on. Maybe he'll get banned for 3 years or so, like he claimed before.

Oh,, who's Marla?

Marla is Marla Riddenour, the reporter who originated the quote.

Or,Marla could be a code word, springing from that sinister mind of Vers, used to avoid detection by the ever vigilant moderators on this site.

The guys on Highly Questionable were cracking on the Dolphins owner and front office hard yesterday. They said something like, "if the Phins can get Farmer to leave the Browns to be the new GM, wouldn't that mean this is the worst organization in the NFL? He won't leave Cleveland, for Miami?"

See, we're already on the rise.

Actually, I thought he was talking to Ytown, it never occured to me that he was speaking of that writer..

Now I know what he meant.. I don't know how it fits with what he was saying, but that doesn't matter at all.

You don't know how it fits? She said it would be a "mind-boggling gaffe" to allow Farmer to leave. She even suggested he could be the next Ozzie. Therefore, shouldn't she say something good about us retaining Farmer---considering he was so important to us?

She won't. She hasn't said one positive thing about the FO. Everything that she writes is negative. That's her prerogative, but it's also my right to point out her slanted viewpoint.

Marla Ridenour is a muckraker in the worst possible sense pure and simple. If she had any integrity as a journalist she would obviously be writing about the positives about keeping Farmer...but that was never her intention in the first place..She was just hired or paid to write slander and fan the flames.

I am glad we are out of the "three stooges" phase of journalism we had to endure. We are now in the phase of sensible reporting and me making low quality MS Paint pictures everyone has to endure

I dcn't read a lot of her stuff so I wouldn't know. But as for the 3 stooges thing, now that the seed is planted, it's there. It can grow or it would wither and Die. all depends on how the team performs and if they (the FO) don't do anything crazy.

Please don't ask me what would be crazy. I don't know. I never expected them to hire a staff, tell them the plan is to build for the future and then cut them off at the knees after one season. No way I could have anticipated that.

SO I don't know what crazy thing could be next.

If they got it right this time, (which I'm hoping for) then terrific, I'll eat crow (a little salt and hot sauce please)

Your low-quality MS Paint pictures are still better than her writings.
