I think the prudent thing to do here is to see if we can nab young, promising (but not elite) players off of these tanking teams. An Evan Turner, Thad Young, J. Henson, etc.
When a ton of teams are doing one thing, then it's not usually efficient to be a follower. Try to find the market inefficiency in another way.
Young, promising players are the exact types of players that tanking teams especially want to keep. You might be able to nab them off contenders, though.
Tanking teams want to dump high salary guys that are decent players who probably aren't going to be on the team for the long haul due to age or contract or whatever. Those are the guys you can get pretty easily. If the goal is to push towards a 30 win season, by all means indulge.
there are plenty of rumors of these teams shopping some of their younger, but likely non-allstar ceiling talent. I would indulge myself in those to increase our team talent base.

We'll just have to wait and see what happens. I'm not saying you're wrong, I haven't followed it all that closely of late, but I think bottom tier teams are only trading their young talent for better or younger talent. That is, they want Kyrie Irving from the Cavs. Or maybe more realistically, they want Waiters or even Thompson on the cheap. I'm thinking the Evan Turner for Dion Waiters rumor right now (thankfully that was just a rumor.)

Young and turner are free agents. Both will probably be with another team next year. Philly is in full rebuild mode. Im glad to see dan wont be gutting the team, for another rebuild. Its time to start winning, enough of the losing already.

I didn't know they would both be free agents. I am in the finals of my first year of My Career in NBA 2k14 with the 76ers Turner never shoots the open three and Young is an undersized power forward. In reality I know nothing about either player but I despise them both in that game.

I'm not sure if that was a reply to me but I never said anything about gutting the team. The young players on this team are bad enough to lose without doing that but I also don't want to see any more short term, win now moves when this team getting past the first round of the playoffs would be miracle.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Cavs acquire a guy like Asik.

only issues would be if he's healthy/in-shape and the fact he's owed $15mil next season (would really put a hurt on the cap).
but, as such (and including he wants out of Houston AND they failed to trade him when they tried in December), we could likely get him for a pretty good deal.

We have enough "one way players" on this team.

He only counts a little over $8 million against the cap though, which is a plus. I just think that the Cavs would benefit a lot from having a true big. Bynum showed hints but was too hindered athletically to do much of anything. He also has experience playing alongside Deng. I do agree that the health is a concern, but it's a concern for just about any legit 7-foot center.
As for one-way players, this team has made it loud and clear that they're not going to exert any energy on the defensive end. I don't see much sense in trying to drive defense into their heads at this point in the season.
Now I'm not saying I'm going to condemn the FO if they don't pick him up. Just saying a younger big body is the type of guy I'd like to see then get.

the reason for Asik though is that he is used to having all-offense/no-defense guards (Lin/Harden) and proved quite capable at deterring their guys (at least last year).

here is an article that sums up a whole bunch of the guys rumored to be "gettable" on the trade market (well, some of the more interesting names): Lowry (yes, I think he could be paired up with Kyrie) Monroe Faried E.Gordon Every single Celtic (most gettable that is interesting though is Avery Bradley) http://msn.foxsports.com/ohio/story/nba-...e-pieces-021014

I am all for adding good, young players to the mix as long as they are reasonable trades.
I'm against short-term, win now moves acquiring vets and expirings just to push the team to 30 or whatever wins and a 1 and done playoff appearance.
So with that being said, it really comes down to the offers. What are we giving up, and what are we getting in return?

My money is on Gordon becoming a Phoenix Sun. I'd like Greg Monroe if we go after Asik.

I think the Grant firing put these guys on notice. To beat 2 quality playoff contenders in washington and memphis is impressive. I don't know how long it will last, but Dan had to do something to get through to these players, that how they were playing was unacceptable. I do think they will trade some guys, I would like Deng to stick around, but we have some pieces and draft picks to get better. The culture of losing, and playing whenever, needed to stop, and hopefully it has.

Confidence, and he's in shape. He's always had a nice stroke, just happy to see him putting it all together. If he could be a solid contributor, that would be huge for this organization going forward.
The ball movement was fantastic tonight. No hero ball from waiters, and irving. If we could win in Detroit tomorrow, that would be huge going into the all star break. Our March schedule is brutal, I think Gilbert will need to make a trade, for us to get in the playoffs.

Roy Hibbert called Bennett turning it around like 2 weeks ago. Didn't like the Wilt meme going around of AB. Said give him time.
It definitely looks like the Grant firing got to these guys. For a lot of them, Chris Grant was the guy that had a ton of faith in them, and he lost his job because they weren't doing theirs.
I won't believe they have turned this around until the ridiculous losing streaks stop, but I am encouraged by these last 7 days, for sure.
You will have a better idea next time this group loses. The way they come out next game will tell you a ton.

last 8 games for Bennett: 44%FG, 50%3pt, 65%FT, 21MPG, 5rb, 9pts (~0.5 on ast, stl, blk)
It's not great, but it's a start and it's much more encouraging than everything before this stretch.

I am most encouraged by the way Waiters accepted the blame for Grant's firing, and promised to work his butt off to be better. Seeing him and Irving play alongside one another seems like night and day compared to before Grant was canned.
In the 3 games since Grant was fired, Waiters has gone 24/4/1, 18/ 7/6, and 20/1/8. His scoring and assists are well above his season average.
Who knows what can open a player's (or a team's) eyes. It sure seems like the players got a wakeup call though. Hopefully it lasts.

I think that was why alot of us wanted bennett in D league the last couple months..You could tell he just needed to get playing time and get back in shape..wasn't going to do that on the bench.. He's had increased minutes consistently and he's responded. Good to see, I'm pulling for the kid, nice to see him get a little confidence. Mike Brown isn't exactly known for his nurturing.

Let's say worst case scenario happens and we land the 8th, leading to us inevitably getting curb stomped in the first round. This is an incredible draft. It's also very deep. Guys like Wayne Selden, Zach Lavine, James Young and Rodney Hood could be available. Those guys are no slouch and would help us at the SG spot. I've stated this before, but Lavine is "my guy."

they had no business winning that game. Detroit handed it to us, but you have to give them credit for not giving up like they usually do. I don't know how Dumars still has a job. That guy has emptied the chamber for that load of crap? I could see why fans don't show up. Jennings, Smith, and Bynum is a horrible combination. Fantastic front line, but not much else.
I'm still thinking they have to make a trade to get in. March's schedule is brutal. Play most of the championship contenders. At least there is hope for them to get in.

Kind of ridiculous the size Detroit played with tonight
Kyle Singler - 6'8 Josh Smith - 6'9 Greg Monroe - 6'11 Andre Drummond - 7'0
Why do they suck? Absolutely no freaking spacing at all.

all that size didn't bother Thompson. they also suck because they let smaller PFs use their speed to get to rebounds and the lane.

Josh Smith has no business playing the three. The Pistons were one of the worst possible teams he could have gone to.

I'm just amazed ....... I finally start to give up on this team ..... and they become a solid defensive team. lol Add to this that Andy, probably our best defender, missed the last 2 games, and it's even more impressive. Maybe (knock on wood) the defensive lessons Brown taught are finally sinking in? I realize that it was against some weaker opposition ...... but Washington is hanging around .500 ....... Memphis is over .500, and Sacramento beat us badly earlier in the year. Nice way to end the 1st half of the season. I hope they can pick up here after the All Star break.

If its any consolation I just went 80-2 in 2027 with the Cavs.
Won our 8th Title in 9 years.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?
