I am sorry, but this is more of an initial complaint more-so than discussion of the Pro-bowl, but I just read this report here suggesting/reporting that Dion Sanders is going to suit up and play. But i'll throw it up here so we can discuss our players going there and etc.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/01/13/deion-sanders-says-hes-playing-in-the-pro-bowl/

Now, with all due respect to Dion, he's Prime Time and will always be - but c'mon... what is this nonsense? What is this mockery? Let the people who've played the entire season and earned their way into that Pro Bowl than a player that makes his money behind a camera.

The Pro Bowl has been declining for years now, and now it takes another huge step down the crap hole. I am not even sure if I will even tune into this now, honestly. And again, that is no disrespect to Dion the legend, I respect him and his name, but him playing... there is no room for this. Even if it's just one snap. The entire format and "draft" thing is stupid too. So players on the same team and have bled aside each other has a possible risk of not even playing on the same team in Hawaii? Roger Goodnell, I am sorry - but you can take this Pro Bowl and stick it in your _ _ _.

It would be funny to see him to get a pick.... and then get leveled.

I tuned in to the Pro Bowl last year, for just one play.

I watched Joe Thomas play patty-cake with some D-lineman like they were in a no-contact practice, and flipped the channel.

It's not a football game. It is still an honor to be chosen, but the game itself is a farce.

Nah, he's going to be put a jersey on and play. I heard he's already told Patrick Peterson that #21 may not be available to him.

Haha watching Dion get leveled would be awesome. Wanna step back in with the big boys, then good luck!

Should be a flag football game where you're not allowed to play your true position.

JThomas = QB
Gordon = DB
Ward = O-line
Mack = LB
Haden = RB

7-on-7 with lots of rotations.

I'd watch that.

There's a Deadspin writer who does a live mailbag every week that's usually more on the funny side than serious-sports side. Some guy asked who would win if you took the worst NFL team and played them against the consensus #1 college team, but switched QB's for the game...

That actually had me thinking that it would be cool to see some kind of an all star high school game where you could have NFL QB's. Obviously you wouldn't be able to hit the QB. It would be cool to see big time QB's like Brady, Rodgers, Manning, etc.. work with the younger up and coming guys. Maybe even have better in depth coverage on the sidelines since it's not all secretive and serious....

Anything is better than the pro bowl.

Didn't college football teams play the NFL champ/all stars/whatever waaaaaay back in the day? Like in the 50s or something?

*google search*

Quote:

The Chicago Charities College All-Star Game was a preseason American football game played annually (except in 1974) from 1934 to 1976 between the National Football League champions and a team of star college seniors from the previous year. It was also known as the College All-Star Football Classic.[1] After the Super Bowl began, including the two seasons prior to the NFL/AFL merger, the Super Bowl winner was the professional team involved, regardless of which league the team represented. Thus, the New York Jets played in the 1969 event, although still an AFL team. The 1935 game involved the 1934 runner up Chicago Bears instead of the 1934 champions New York Giants.

In the 42 College All-Star Games, the NFL champions won 31, the All-Stars won nine, and two ended in ties

are they trying to say that they need to handicap FSU by giving them Weeden and us Winston?

I think the NFL/superbowl champs played the college all stars until the mid 70's.

If you gave Houston Winston, I don't think they'd give him back...

In all seriousness, why don't they just do some kind of a really cool skills challenge. All star games are garbage anyway.

I guess baseball is still relevant, but I don't care about baseball enough to watch.

The NHL all star game is like watching one of my men's league games... The skills challenge is something I never want to miss.

I know the NFL used to do a skills challenge, but it was totally lame, and with today's technology maybe they could come up with better ideas, as well as somehow involve fans via social media.

you might be too young to remember the amazing QB challenge in the early 90's that featured Randall Cunningham, Warren Moon, Steve Young.......and Bernie Kosar.

It was hilarious seeing Bernie make his way through the obstacle course. He hit every target on the first try (of course - at least if my memory is correct), but hilarious nonetheless.

I have tried and failed at finding any video evidence. If anyone can help and post here you would have my eternal gratitude.

I must be in the minority here, but i kinda like this idea for the Pro Bowl.

Imagine Peyton Manning running play action to AP, and then throwing deep to Megatron.

I'm just glad that we don't have a QB and a pass rusher in this game. That would such if they were on different teams.

Anyway, I think that this was a creative way to change things up. I'm probably not going to sit arounf and watch 3 hours of skills challenges. I might watch this year's Pro Bowl though.

I am more likely to watch the Pro Bowl draft than the Pro Bowl itself, so that's something.

I really do think they should take the pretense out of it and make it flag football. That would be fun to watch.

I'm more swaying towards the skills challenge.

These players don't wanna run half-speed, let alone full speed in these games. It's like watchign Pee Wee football game and now Sanders and even Rice are going to be playing? Let's throw Jim Brown in a wheelchair and give him some snaps. If they going to make a mockery outta it, then may as' well not even play a "game" but something else instead. I dig the NBA three point shooting contest and etc.

Because they put soooooo much effort into playing the game...

I was never a huge fan of the Pro Bowl anyway - but the day I saw Joe Thomas standing like a goon and pretty much talking to the DL while a PLAY WAS HAPPENING sealed the deal that it's a complete farce and waste of all time.

Let's get rid of the pro bowl game. Let's break down the teams into 6 smaller teams and have them compete in football oriented skill challenges. Spread it over a week where they all compete as one big group for one task then finish the day with a 7-7 game. It's not like anyone cares about the d-line and o-line in a pro bowl game anyway.

Anyone know where our players were picked?

I am guessing Thomas, Haden, and Gordon were picked early.

Cameron and Mack in the middle.

Ward late.

Anyone know for sure?

I know that they said that Gordon was the 1st WR taken.

This has actually been a decent game so far. These guys are playing much harder than on the past.

I do think that players want bragging rights, even (or especially) on their own teams. One of the announcers made a point of man cover being allowed again, and hos no DB wants to get burned on man. It's one thing if you give up 5 TD against zone ...... but not man. No one wants that.

I've enjoyed this so far. Nice to see the Browns players show up especially.
