I want no part of trading for Cousins. he didn't impress me in college, and he hasn't impressed me as a pro. (he has been below average outside of one game against us)

It is not totally Cousins. It is the other moves signing Julian Edelman WR, Jeff Cumberland (blocking TE), & Wade Smith OG and drafting Watkins WR & Hyde RB makes a strong argument. Having Flash Gordon, Sammy Watkinds, Julian Edelman, and Jordan Cameron as Browns passing threat is something to think about.
You can adjust taking a QB in the first at 26 bypassing Cousins. Farmer rolls the dice on Hoyer and drafts a prospect in either Carr, Garoppolo, or Boyd. In addition, he can also take a fifth or sixth round chance on Mettenberger if available. To me, Wade Smith is a little old at 32.
If Farmer doesn't feel those top three QB's are worth a fourth pick, Browns have options.
If they add Byrd, Browns can very well draft two MLB's Borland, Skov, Smallwood, or Bullough in rounds 3 and 4.

That is the critical decision point isn't.
I've been thinking we need to go all in to get our guy assuming their is a guy that is worth it and I'll stick to that BUT I am really beginning to believe there ISN'T a guy worth it. I don't see a franchise QB in this group right now. Closest guy to it would be Teddy but I don't think I could justify selling the farm to get him... I also don't think he'll be there at #4.
So... that means we look at other options. We have lots of picks and this is a deep draft. We could significantly upgrade the talent on this team and still take a 2nd - 4th round developmental QB.
I dunno, I just think there really are options and I'm not so sure we will take a QB at #4.... and that would be ok in my book.

A couple of times in our history, we have thought we had enough talent to simply draft a qb outside of the first round.
We drafted Frye and Colt outside of the first round. Both guys were a disappointment and so we then reached for BQ and Weeden to compensate for our earlier mistake.
We are in position to draft a true franchise QB. Please don't make the same mistake as we have in the past. We have passed on guys like Rodgers and Big Ben and drafted receivers like K2 and Leon.
Passing on Teddy for a Watkins is the the equivalent of those earlier moves.
Suck it up and have the guts to get your QB. Whatever it takes. Just get it done.

Vers what price would you be willing to pay to move up to 1 or 2 to get Bridgewater? With the depth in the draft this year I would hate trading 26 or our 2nd. Would you be willing to do the Redskins deal?

Which mistake the Couch pick, BQ reach, or missing on Rodgers? I think this is the 2 million dollar question! Making the wrong decision creates a miss opportunity. Yea, I know I'm stating the obvious, but I believe it is worth stating. Fans need to leave it to the experts!

In the end, isn't that exactly what happens? None of us will be making any of the picks.

But when looking at previous QB's chosen combined with those we've missed, has "leaving it to the experts" been a plan that has addressed the QB position? So far I believe a resounding no would be the answer.
All we as fans do is our own analysis and throw out our wants and opinions. I believe Vers is 100% correct about Bridgewater. And until we address the QB position, and get it right, we are going nowhere as a team.
Maybe win 6 games which puts us in a position that will only serve to make getting a QB high in the draft and answering the QB position harder to do and even less likely.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I'm ok with drafting a QB outside of the first round if you truly value someone higher in that grouping of QB's. For example if they liked Mettenburger just flat out over these other guys, that's fine. What I don't want to hear is that they wanted to use that high pick on other needs and then get the QB... I don't think NFL executives really think that way, but fans do that all the time. They want to settle. They want to build everything else and plug in a QB. Doesn't really work that way. I want the best guy. I want them to draft THEIR guy.
*To add on to that, I really don't think the Browns have drafted a QB whom they were really in love with and totally on board for... Not in this era...
Who they have drafted since '99...
'99 Tim Couch '00 Spergon Wynn (lol) '04 Luke McCown '05 Charlie Frye '07 Brady Quinn '10 Colt McCoy '12 Brandon Weeden
I feel like Quinn was a move they felt like they had to make but didn't really love... If they really loved him, he would have been taken with their own pick (which we all know was Thomas)
Weeden was the past regime trying to cut corners on an older guy who was seasoned...
McCoy and Frye were value picks...
I mean really, I never got the feeling that they were fully bought into any of these picks. I want this next QB to be someone they are absolutely 100% sold on.

I could not agree more. I will take it a step further, even if Teddy is a bust, I would do the same thing, over and over and over again until we get a guy behind center who can win games for us. To this point we haven't had a guy who could even manage the game for us since the ONE season Anderson played well.

I get it and that makes sense IF you think one of those guys really is a franchise QB. I know you like Teddy. He's my favorite too but I'm not nearly as high on him as you which is the problem I'm having. I'd take him at #4 but I'm not selling the farm for him... I see high risk of him becoming at best a game manager QB. Just my opinion... will be interesting to see what Farmer decides.

I totally understand what you and Vers are saying. Looking at this draft I have the exact same assessment on these kids as I did when Browns drafted BQ. I keep thinking what would have happen if Browns took JaMarcus Russell passing on Joe Thomas.
I am not saying Bridgewater looks like Russell. I simply don't see a polished product. As for Manziel and Bortles, even the draftnics are saying project from the start.
For argument sake, assume Bridgewater, Watkins, and Khalil Mack are sitting at #4. I'm simply glad I don't have to make that pick!! My thinking I am not commenting to anything. This will give me carte-blanche to criticize or praise any pick!!!!!

We simply disagree when it comes to Bridgewater. I don't really have a problem with that. I see him as having a much better skill set than RG3 has as it pertains to an NFL QB and a notch below Luck in arm strength. I believe he is a very intelligent QB and that makes a world of difference to me. I would be interested to know what you have seen in Bridgewater that causes you to feel the way you do about him though?

J/C Here's my best case scenario if we think Teddy Bridgewater is the MAN.
1. We trade #4 and next year's 1st rounder to STL. They will probably prefer our 2015 pick to this year's #26.
2. We trade #26 for a 2015 first rounder and a mid round pick in 2014. Possibly a pressured front office or team without a 1st this year (WAS).
3. We hope our butts off that we do better than the team we make the second deal with. If so...we get Teddy, a 2014 mid-rounder and a bump in draft slot for 2015.

Why would they prefer next year's pick? This is supposed to be the deepest draft in years.

I think if we suck it will pay off with a high dividend.
Number 1-7 next year will certainly be a better player than 26 this year. Even if next years draft is weaker. Recently, if you draft in the top 5 there has been a big drop off in the apparent talent level. We seem to always be a pick away from this years AJ Green.
At least the odds are it will be a better player.

Mentally I think the guy has tallent. Physically he'll never last a season. Even with a above average line Cleveland has not had a QB who finished a season. I have reservations on the skill level Teddy faced. I had same thoughts regarding RG iii coming out of the Big 12....same conference Weeden looked great.
I give higher marks for guys who play in either the B1G or SEC, and I pay more attention to kids who start 3 years or more in these two conferences. That is not to say the other conferences can't produce players, but guys from the B1G and SEC play against above average talent and coaches most weeks.
I'm a little skeptical of Johnny Manziel too and not because of size. Johnny is ad-lib type. Yes, he has the "it" factor so did Brett Farve. People forget it took Farve a few years before he understood.

Bugs and Orange: It's cool that we disagree on how good Teddy is. I understand where you are coming from. Maybe you are right.
I just think Teddy is so intelligent. Smartest guy to come out in years. I think that is huge in today's NFL. He reads coverages and defenses, beats blitzes, avoids tacklers, can run if he has to, keeps his eyes downfield. He doesn't miss games due to injuries.
I will say that I am not quite buying the competition thing. People are willing to draft Garrapola in the first and he played even worse competition. Additionally, Teddy destroyed both of his bowl opponents and Florida arguably had the best defense in the country two years ago.
I've been wrong before and I will be wrong again.........but, I am haven't been too bad in evaluating qbs over the years. I have never studied them like I have this year. I'm sold on Teddy.

Texans interested in Ryan Mallett If the Texans trade for Mallett you can almost guarantee they will not be taking a QB with the first overall pick. That would be great for us if we are planning on taking a QB at pick four.

That would be tremendous. Let's hope that's what happens, and they then take Clowney at #1. (so there is no chance he falls to us at 4)

To satisfy my need to be right I want to point out I mentioned this scenario as most likely the day the Texans hired their HC. It just makes the most sense for them IMO. Everyone thought Mallet would come to Cleveland when it was thought McDaniels was on his way but it was O'Brian who was the Pats OC when he was drafted. McDaniels was in Denver.

I don't think that's the case at all.. He did a decent job when installed. I think everyone recognizes that. Nothing new.
But with such a limited amount to judge him on, most everyone is saying we need to get a QB at some point.
The differences are when to take one, who to take, if we should move up to get one etc etc.
But Hoyervitus? Not really a big deal.. Having said that, I'd not mine seeing what the kid has? I don't suppose that's a novel idea around here.

Not so fast my friend. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...to-nonexistent/Texans’ interest in Ryan Mallett appears minimal to nonexistent Posted by Michael David Smith on March 9, 2014, 11:58 AM EDT Ryan Mallett AP The talk that the Texans are interested in trading with the Patriots to acquire quarterback Ryan Mallett appears to be just talk. In fact, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports that there’s not even any reason to talk about it. McClain reports that the Texans “won’t be trading for Ryan Mallett,” period. It sounds good in theory: New Texans head coach Bill O’Brien was the Patriots’ offensive coordinator for Mallett’s rookie season, so O’Brien knows what kind of player Mallett is, and Mallett knows what kind of offense O’Brien runs. That’s the case for the Texans making the trade. The case against it is that Mallett has completed a grand total of one pass in an NFL regular-season game. If the Texans are going to make a quarterback with no experience their starter, it’s going to be a rookie they’re drafting as their long-term answer. Not a third-year backup who only has one year left on his rookie contract. The most likely path for Mallett is spending one more year as Tom Brady’s backup and then hitting free agency a year from now. The most likely path for the Texans is acquiring their quarterback of the future in the draft.

But he played average qb play for a couple games. Defense figures a qb out better after some tape. He will be in a different system this year.
Not to mention that he's ugly and his mom dresses him funny
Is there any redeeming value to the kid or should we just toss him out with the trash LOL
the kid was the third stringer, mostly not active prior to his "Average QB Play" Defense does indeed figure guys out over time, but as you pointed out, he's going to be in a different system so we do have a little lead time on that.
He may end up being "NOT BAD"
