Per http://rotoworld.comThe Chiefs may release Dante Hall if they can't find a trading partner for him. A team may give up a seventh-round pick for Hall on draft day, but we doubt Kansas City could do much better than that. It looks like his days in Kansas City are done. Source: Kansas City Star I think this would be a nice sign for the Browns. He could nicely take the spot left vacated by Northcut. Hall has better hands, and is faster and I think would be a big improvement.

We just let a pure punt returner walk.

At one time he was an elite return man. I would bring him in and see how much money he demanded. If he could settle for something like 6 years 12 mil I wouldn't be upset with it.
He could be our 3rd/4th WR and our return man both KR and PR. He would be nasty back there with Cribbs.
Go Browns!!

That would be a great combination for KR duty, reminiscent of the days when Randy Baldwin and Eric Metcalf were the return duo. Those two returning kicks in the 90's virtually guaranteed the Browns would start near the 50.

Whether Hall or someone else it seems like a good area to pursue.

If the price is right, we could use a punt return guy. But another WR??

He's merely a return specialist. His attempt at WR failed - he's nothing more than a 4 or 5.

a 4th or 5th reciever. And we arn't as deep at reciever as people act like. The only reciever we can count on is JJ, and I guess u can consider Braylon as the other lock at starter. Then after that we have an unproven Wilson, and Cribbs who has shown zero. This is something Phil should look into IMHO,

WR. Though he'd be deadly next to Cribbs in the return game, that'd be a site.

Hate to say it, but Hall has lost a step. At this point in his career, he's not even a good kick return guy. His sole purpose is as a punt returner, which is why the Chiefs are trying to find a taker. For what he's about to be paid, it's too much for a one-dimensional player who has no role on offense whatsoever.
My opinion is that he'd be worth veteran minimum plus incentives if he were released, but beyond that as a punt returner, he's just taking up a roster spot.

Toad, would consider him if he was released and we could get him cheap while giving up nothing in any draft?

Thats just it... Most people can't touch him... The Browns WR's aren't lighting it up and who is available in the the 6 or 7th round that equals him in talent in the return game or @ WR? If you look at his ST and WR stats he still a solid contributor. Why not unless he is damaged???

tough call, but no thanks....
He isn't a chump (yet), but he sure as hell isn't the "X-Factor" that he was in that single breakout season as a returner.
As a WR, he would be, at best, a replacement for Cutt in the Slot. However, with his stats for last year being 26 catches for 204 yards in 15 games, I would say he could be replaced by just about any receiver in the Draft.
We could pay almost 3 full rookie league minimum contracts for what his league minimum amount would be as an 8 year vet, and we gain, at the most, a PR? I'll pass.

Cribbs was absolutely TERRIBLE in his limited chances returning punts last year, he even totally whiffed (who knows how) on one.

Actually, he whiffed one, flubbed another two I think?... and was just generally horrible back there on punts, hehe. Perhaps it was just nerves or what I dunno, but yeah, he looked bad.
p.s. good to see ya KSA... haven't seen ya around i what seems like ages.

not buying it man... Again unless DH is banged up and won't pass a physical... Single season performer? He busted a punt return for a TD last year had a long of 60 yards or so on a kick off return and averaged nealry 23 yards per on KO's too.
A late rounder for a triple threat guy with some gas in the tank and can produce as a 4th option @ WR? Who on the current Browns roster @ wr brings the same skill set and value??? A proven NFL talent vs. unkown 6th or 7th rounder? Nah...
The Browns don't have a punt return guy right now... Proven 7/8 year vets are worth what they are worth...

He's not an elite guy like he was early in his career. Hell, he's nearing 30 and never developed as a viable receiver (too damned small. Sound familiar?) However, as a pure punt returner, he still has something left in the tank, and let's be realistic here, we've got something like $17 million left under the cap. It wouldn't hurt us at all to sign him, and we have a real need at PR. Perkins is probably the leading candidate to take that job, as Cribbs has no CLUE how to return punts. He's a kickoff returner only. Nothing more.

The thing is, if Cribbs knew how to field the punts, he would have been a much better returner than Cutt was. I like how he didn't dance and just went upfield.
Of course, fielding the ball cleanly is the most important thing.

and that was his first punt return for a TD since 2003. In 2005, 42 returns with only 2 of them at 20+ yards, though he did improve upon that in 2006.
And single breakout year? Yes, that's what it was. He had an absolutely amazing 2003 season, and has fallen back to being a mere mortal since then.
He's got some gas in the tank, but all he would be truly valuable as is a PR.... though I do gotta dig the idea of both him and Cribbs back on KR duty.
Would I trade for him? No, I'd wait for him to be cut. No sense in losing a pick AND being saddled with his contract, which has two years left on it. 2007 1500000.00 2008 1927500.00
Not that much, but if you can get it cheaper and without dropping a pick, do it.

You mean clearly probably, right? I'm thinking that if Hall is cheap enough we might take him.... I don't care if Cribbs is great at running with the ball, the most important thing is to field the punt correctly so we don't lose the ball as well as another 40 yards. I'm thinking in reality though, we'll probably hold a punt returner competition in camp with the special teams and let an UDFA/guy on our team (Harrison or how about Barclay) be our punt returner. I will say that if an UDFA looks phenomenal, the guy deserves a roster spot. Josh Cribbs is a lot more valuable off his kick returns than many other players on this team who never even see the field and suck anyway.
I wouldn't mind Hall if he doesn't cost a pick, but i wouldn't mind drafting a guy to take the duty either if they're really good (5th round or something). You figure the guy touches the ball like at least 3+ times a game and he probably can kickreturn alongside Cribbs. That's more than the number 4 or 5 reciever sometimes goes into the game......

If Gibbs can be a solid PR guy then there is no need for Hall... I'd rather take up a roster spot with a guy who can contribute a little more...

So do I.........let the guy PRACTICE at it for a while, and he may be able to see/catch/run a little bit better. It isn't an art to catching it, but it takes time to see how to catch it cleanly (or clearly I didn't understand that? )

Cribbs excells at kick off returns because he has time to actually catch it and start running. While he has good top speed, he does it in a straight line. He just doesn't posess the quickness and elusivness to to be a good punt returner because of the much smaller time/space window. On top of that..he wouldn't last 6 games doing both.
