From thread, in response to bugs, about John DeFilippo: Quote:
I was thinking the same, but if he was the man, they would have made the deal by now.
I think the NFL frowns upon releasing any news during Super Bowl week. Especially towards the end of Super Bowl week.
I suspect we will know who our coordinator is by Tuesday of next week.

We hired an offensive line coach: Quote:
The Browns have hired Andy Moeller as their new offensive line coach, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reported tonight, citing an unnamed source.
The Browns have yet to make an announcement.
Moeller, 49, spent the past six seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, serving as an assistant offensive line coach from 2008-10 and the team's main offensive line coach from 2011-13.
New Browns coach Mike Pettine worked for the Ravens from 2002-08, so his last season in Baltimore was Moeller’s first with the organization.
Before joining the Ravens, Moeller coached in the college ranks for 21 seasons. He spent time with Indiana, Army, Missouri and Michigan before making the leap to the NFL.

Just checking in and clicking really. Have we been Bold yet? If we have not thus far, the wait is wearing me down. I will feel bad if the FO was bold without me. Glad we have coaches in place for a number of positions.

I really wouldn't call any of the hires bold. I'm not saying they are bad hires, but they, at least to me, don't qualify as bold.

I find it an odd way to go about things in that the Browns are hiring positional coaches without having an OC in place. You would think the OC would want input on his staff. Unless the Browns just give Dowell Loggains the OC title by default.

I kind of had similar thoughts. Even thought that may prevent them from getting the guy they really want.

Could Darrell Bevell (Seahawk OC) accept the Browns OC job if his title included "Assistant Head Coach"? I don't think it would happen, but just curious.

Unless they already have a guy in place, such as one of the guys who are still coaching for either Seattle or Denver.

This is a pretty good hire. I sure hope his alcohol issues under control. Warhop is better, but Andy is no filler.
I'm really surprised fans and media are not all up an arms over the sequence of hires. All these sub-coaching position hires before the coordinator. Nobody is questioning or think it is a little unusual?
One name I haven't heard as possible OC Eric Studesville, Denver's running back coach.

I don't think it's unusual for the HC to assemble this entire staff. no matter what order he does it in. much the same I don't think it's out of the norm for the HC to allow his coordinators to pick some of his position coaches. this has me wondering if this was the power/control kubiak was looking for that he couldn't get with us? I mean there's only so much power a coordinator has anyway right?

1. OL...according to that PFF site??? that has that advanced rating system for OL. The Ravens OL was like in the 25% Of the NFL and worst of our Division. But they did make some remarkable adjustments last last 5 or so games of the season?
2. Did anyone read about Sullivan being fired?
3. I can only presume that If the OC does not have any say in these position coaches hires...he will accept them as it is late in process and he will keep who he likes and makes some changes here n there as his guys open up in availability in 2015.
4. PDR...sorry man you live in some far away imaginary world. I have yet see you tool anyone on this board. Also - I never mentioned Mangini...you did, so I caught you in some BIG LIE right there, I never mentione discipline...YOU DID - I do really try to keep in the theme of threads...it was about OC's and staff members to be hire and being hired. All I did was mention Daboll cause the subject of Arians came up and I remember at the time he was fired I was happy...only to find myself wrong on that one and had admitted so. Not brought up but at the time I faulted Fazio but years later realized he was one of the best D coaches we had here. I thnk the team would have had consistency and better results if we stayed with both Arians and Fozio. From that point on I didn't care about Scheme matching my preferences...All I want is continuity.
Now I would like to see you make some Mature moves here and actually discuss the thread at hand. But let me guess...you wont.
5. It was mentioned as TUESDAY being the D-DAY. Probably the last possible day unless its all set up and we are waiting for that one last interview. What is the deal with the Fillipo guy..didn't he turn us down already? Unless its this NFL don't want us to make any news right before the Super Bowl???
6. Bold...you sure they didn't say "BALD"??? Anyways that word "Bold" is up to interpretation. I think we can assess Bold only after the 2014 season...hey we are over .500 we get in the playoffs...hey I'd let them advertise their moves whatever way they wanted to

It does seem rather odd, but then you and I aren't privy to all the back room stuff.. They may already have an OC in mind and after tomorrow, it could be announced..

Clem, it is not that I have a problem with it. I simply thought it would be a bigger issue. Grossi usually is a stickler for correct sequence!
Actually, Pettine is stating he is in control of coaching hire. It is not uncommon HC hires his coordinators and them have input or hire some of their guys.
I am not sure was Montgomery hired for the RB's coach. If so, I think it is only OC and receivers coach left.
A good hire for a receiver coach or maybe assistant receiver coach would be Isaac Bruce.

Wouldn't this also go in the other direction? If your a RB or QB coach wouldn't you want to know who your OC was going to be... to make sure you mesh?
To that end I think that the OC is pretty much set, just not announced for whatever reason.

Also, it seems as though Kyle Shanahan is not out of the running (among other tidbits):
Quote:
Don’t count out Kyle Shanahan in the Browns’ quest to find an offensive coordinator for new coach Mike Pettine.
Shanahan, the former offensive coordinator of the Washington Redskins, is still under consideration to become the Browns’ play-caller, an NFL source confirmed this morning for the Beacon Journal. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because the team isn’t commenting on candidates during the search.
The Browns interviewed Shanahan, 34, on Wednesday and Oakland Raiders quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo, 35, on Thursday for the position.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that Shanahan’s interview “did not exactly go as planned” and that the Browns have likely moved on from him.
However, the source who spoke to the Beacon Journal said Shanahan is still in the mix.
In four of the six seasons in which Shanahan has been an offensive coordinator, his offenses have finished in the top 10 in the league in yards per game. However, his well-documented clashes with quarterbacks Robert Griffin III and Donovan McNabb have tarnished his reputation. The Redskins fired Shanahan and his father, Mike, their former head coach, after they went 3-13 during the 2013 season.
If the offensive coordinator search extends into next week, Denver Broncos running backs coach Eric Studesville could be a name to watch, NFL Network's Albert Breer wrote on Twitter today. Studesville, 46, is in his 17th season in the league. He has coached running backs for the Broncos since 2010, and he served as their interim head coach during the final four games of that season.
Chicago Bears quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh, 57, has also been mentioned as a potential candidate. He worked with Pettine when he was with the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets. Like DeFilippo, Cavanaugh is a Youngstown native.
No matter who becomes the Browns' offensive coordinator, he'll join a few offensive assistants who have already been hired.
The Baltimore Sun reported Friday night that the Browns hired former Ravens offensive line coach Andy Moeller to fill the same role in Cleveland. The Browns also hired former Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains on Thursday, and a source said it’s “very likely” he’ll become the team’s quarterbacks coach. The Browns announced Monday that they hired tight ends coach Brian Angelichio, who spent the past two seasons in the same capacity with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Pretty much Kubiak wanted a lot of control...Shanny has given his opinion about the Chud situation which may not have gone over well with them, but apparently DeFilippo had a strong meeting with them. They are also reviewing tape of Shanny's tenure with the Redskins.

Same here..just can't be here like I used to be. Yeah they like him and I think they want to see what exactly happened in Washington..there are things out there about Shanny being a control freak. He has to have things done to a T.

I can agree with that, Damanshot. Found that "BOLD" statement to be a steamy heap. I feel like I must have had a triple-stent bold bypass. Not saying bad picks, and glad we finally filled our coaches in, but BOLD? Not like we settled, but seems like leftovers again. But have no doubts: I wish all the new coaches the best of luck. Banner seems to be a rather dull person...probably not the life of the party type of guy.
Possibly these moves are bold to him??? Every one has their own interpretation. For me it means hiring Gruden...for others something else. But Banner who said it possibly this is exactly what he meant??? Who knows, out of all the words mentioned why is that one fixated on?

I agree Eo.....and hiring Pettine was a bold move. I don't know if hiring Shannahan could be called bold, but I think it was a good hire. We got a guy with a lot of experience.

Was the TRich trade bold? Was firing Chud bold?
And who really gives a fart about what he said about being bold? Is that going to translate into wins?
I think what's important is whether these hires can coach or not. I am not sold on them, but I am pretty happy w/our hires. I like our hires better than most of the other teams who made coaching changes. But again, they have to prove themselves during the season.
I just don't get how being bold is so important in Bard's mind?????????
Wait........I think I actually do get it. I just can't agree w/that type of thinking.

I think going after Kelly and Saban last year was "bold"
I think actually looking at a multitude of candidates this year and finding a guy they like, and not just a guy everyone says is good, is also bold...

BIG LIE? You sound like a petulant child.
Actually, cfrs15 brought him up initially, comparing him to McDaniels.
You jumped in at some point, calling various comments of mine 'ludicrous' and 'ignorant'. I asked you to explain why this was the case, and you failed to do so, your argument eventually dwindling down to little more than 'because I said so'.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - I don't need to be told about maturity from a guy who whined like a little girl and stomped off in a huff because someone started a "What I Saw" thread.
As far as discussing the current hiring situation, I'll have more to say when we actually hire the guys, and we see the product on the field. I've been on this carousel far too long to speculate. I've been in a wait-and-see mode since we fired Crennel.

I don't know that that actually happened.
But I will say that the "What I Saw" thread was intended to be a review of the game from those who were actually able to see the game described for those who were unable to see it. Accordingly, "What I Saw".
Everybody doesn't see everything so a lot of input from fellow fans on what they saw really did a service to those who missed the game.
Unfortunately, instead of remaining true to it's intended purpose by staying on topic, that thread turned into a bitch, gripe and argue thread full of opinions just like any other "Post Game Thoughts" type of thread. As a result those comments demolished the premise of the thread which was to add detail of the game to those dawgs, for whatever reason, weren't able to watch it.
I'm as guilty as anyone of derailing threads with off-topic posts, but that was one thread that should not have been defiled in that way since the whole reason for it was to help others "see" the game through the eyes of those who watched it.
The "What I Saw" thread worked great for many years until just the past few when posters missed the point of the thread and changed it entirely with off-topic, opinionated and argumentative comments until it was made worthless as a game review or description.

Why does this bother you so? And why do you feel a need to condemn (as if you could)? My opinion about a .-eyed statement by Banner. We will be bold at a snail's pace; and we lost some candidates while we futzed around and extended this search after what remains in my mind a poorly handled firing (in terms of respect and treatment). We did not get a "bold" name, probably best choice or first choice, and we have yet to see if we got the best of the rest or settled. I am suggesting Banner is trying some spin, and that, for me, I did not and do not buy it. We did not land a big name from any level or a proven and experienced coach or staff. Never wanted BOLD as promised in the first place. Wanted some proven and reliable. Bold is important to me as a promise undelivered. And we need to get it right. So stacking up unproven coaches doesn't preclude success, but it makes me skeptical as a plan. And my confidence level is lower with Banner especially; he is the one said we would be. I was one here who asked why. Happy the Search is over is not to say we are happy with the outcome. Shanahan is in place. Was that bold? Are we done with that? Did we do it enough to satisfy Banner? I ask because I will continue to question the judgment of this FO and its motivations proven out. Some of the things you mentioned like TRich were before Banner's "promise." I consider these moot. I think it is vital to personally evaluate the Deciders. This group especially. I will continue to do it without your help. And I was trying to have fun with this and satirize something ridiculous and not realized. And I want wins. Screw BOLD! Wins. But this may be the "winning media events" or whatever the new coach alluded to. Just win, baby. Speak your mind. I respect that. Stay out of mine. It is not yours. Great days ahead. Hope we make very bold strides together.

Thanks, Damanshot! Well, Vers, I think it speaks to character, judgment, believability, and a fan's ability to trust what is stated. Not sure Banner, who wants to be out of front with media, is scoring well. Feels like snake oil salesman's pitch to me. What is promised? What is received instead? If you are worried about me, well, I get it. You may or may not "get" e, though you say you do. But any criticism here is misdirected. Not seeking your approval. Glad you feel you got the satire; equally glad we do not see eye to eye. Is there some type of standard you are in charge of?
