Just for fun (and I don't know if anybody else does this) -- who would you have drafted in the past few years (as of the time of the draft). And how did they do?

I also do a live "who would I have taken" every year on the day of the draft. It's a little harder because I don't know about all the trades, but I allow myself to either take or turn down trades that the Browns make -- and also make other trades that were made during the draft (like - if a team offered #37 and #63 for #22 -- I have the ability to offer better picks from the Browns, say #34 and #67 for the same pick).

Anyway, looking back:

2012:

Assuming without a tradeup the Vikings just take Kalil at #3. I would have taken him at 4 here, but didn’t think that was fair.
Take trade with Denver, #67 for #87 and #120

4 - Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU - Has been sort of a bust. I think he would do better alongside Haden in a man scheme though. Really wanted to take Kalil here, but figured it wasn't fair since the Vikings would have taken him at 3.
22 - Riley Reiff, OT, Iowa - Between him and DeCastro here for me. Didn't play much in 2012, and it's hard for me to tell how lineman do. Seemed solid at LT this year for Detroit (somebody who watches them more could tell me).
37 - Alshon Jeffery, WR, USC - I think with just this pick I outperformed the Browns. My favorite receiver in the 2012 draft.
87 - Lamar Miller, RB, Miami - Solid, if not particularly exceptional back
100 - Ronnell Lewis, OLB, Oklahoma - Cut after multiple run ins with law enforcement... Whoops.
118 - Jarius Wright, WR, Arkansas - 26 catches for 434 yards and 3 TDs - Ok for 4th rounder?
120 - Brandon Boykin, CB, Georgia - Has been pretty exception for the Eagles, 6 INTs this year.
139 - Zebrie Sanders, OT, Florida State - Cut after first year
160 - Terrell Manning, OLB, NC State - Currently on Chargers PS
204 - Billy Winn, DT, Boise State - Only browns pick that I really liked, and maybe one of our more productive picks
205 - Nate Potter, OT, Boise State - Don't have a ton of info on how he's done. Think he had a starting role at tackle this year for the Cardinals. Played 8 games as a rookie. Solid pick up at 205.
211 - B.J. Coleman, QB, Chattanooga St. - Packers Practice squad in 2012, not in football
245 - Tauren Poole, RB, Tennessee - I had it between him and Bryce Brown, and went with Poole.... whoops. Been on a few practice squads.
247 - Chris Owusu, WR, Stanford - 13 receptions for 114 yards.

I had T.Y Hilton as my sleeper pick - but thought I could get him in the 4th. Same with Olivier Vernon. Big negative of this draft is that I didn't get a QB (though the Browns didn't either). Wilson was never really on my radar (until maybe the 6th/7th) - I was hoping to grab Brock Osweiler in the 3rd, but Denver took him at the end of the 2nd.

=============================
2011:

Take the Trade with Falcons #27, #59, #124 (2012 1st, 4th)
Don't take trade up to #22 with Kansas City
Take the New England trade (NE traded #56 and a 2012 1st for #28, we had #27. So do the same deal)

37 - Brooks Reed, DE, Arizona - Has been a really solid SAM for the Texans
56 - Clint Boling, OG, Georgia - Starting OG for Cincinnati, has been solid I believe (tore ACL at end of this season)
59 - Randall Cobb, WR, Kentucky - Great WR for the Packers, though with some injury concerns
70 - Justin Houston, DE, Georgia - 26.5 sacks in 3 NFL seasons. I'll take it
102 - Brandon Burton, CB, Utah - Plays special teams sometimes?
124 - Quan Sturdivant, ILB N. Carolina - Out of the league
137 - Marcus Cannon, OT - Dropped due to lymphoma diagnoses, has been excellent for the Patriots
168 - Christopher Neild, DT, W Virginia - Played a few games his rookie year, not much.
170 - Virgil Green, TE Nevada - not much, 17 career receptions
248 - Eric Hagg, S, Nebraska -- Seems I always take some guy the Browns actually take.

The big prize here is 2 extra 1st round picks in 2012. I'm going to guess I would have taken Courtney Upshaw with the 31 pick in 2012? There are a couple big hits in this draft in Cobb/Boling/Cannon.

I have earlier ones, will post once I find them on my computer.

I'm just going to worry about trades the Browns did and whether or not I would've unless it's a major one in the 1st. It would just take to long otherwise.

2011:

No 1st round trade with Atlanta
6: JJ Watt DE Wisc(called it)
37: Bruce Carter OLB UNC
70: Allen Bailey DE Miami
102: Cecil Shorts WR Mount(would've been Sam Acho but with the previous picks not so much)
137: Marcus Cannon OG TCU
No 5th round trade with Minnesota
168: Mistral Raymond S South Fl
170: Greg Jones LB Mich St
248: Mark Herzlich LB BC

2012:

Rather than move up for Trich I would've moved down with Jacksonville and taken...
7: Stephon Gilmore CB(though had someone offered me a 1st in 2013 I would've traded out)
37: Lavonte David LB Nebraska
No 3rd round trade
67: Russell Wilson QB Wisc
Trade with SF 101,139&211 for 92(for sake of not having 13 rooks)
92: Jayron Hosely CB VTech
100: Bobbie Massie OT Ole Miss
160: Ryan MIller OG Colorado
175: Billy Winn DE Boise
204: Nate Potter OT Boise
205: Travis Lewis OLB Oklahoma
245: Vontaze Burflict LB ASU
247: ?

Still use 2nd rounder on Gordon

2013:

6: Barkevious Mingo OLB LSU
Trade 68&111 for 55 from GB
55: Larry Warford OG Kentucky(wanted him BAD)
139: Josh Evans S Florida
175: Joe Kruger DE Utah
217: Jordan Poyer CB O.St
227: Zac Dysert QB Mia of OH

So my team would look like

QB: Russel Wilson, Dysert, Thad Lewis
RB: Hardesty, Obi, Lewis??
FB:
WR: Gordon, Shorts, Little, Bess, Jordan Norwood
TE: Watson, Alex Smith, Barnidge
OT: Joe, Massie, Potter
OG: Warford, Cannon, Greco, Lava,
C: Mack

DE: Watt, Mingo, Kruger, Bailey
DT: Rubin, Bryant, Winn, Kitchen
LB: DQ, David, Burflict, Carter, Jones, Hertzlich
CB: Joe, Gilmore, Hosely, Poyer, Aubrey
S: Ward, Evans, Raymond, Gipson

My defense would kill people and that's with only Des Bryant as a major FA in 3 years. Add Byrd in FA, Hyde, Copeland and SUPERBOWL.

I've thought about doing a thread like this before. I can't recall who I wanted that deep into the draft without digging, but off the top of my head -

1999: Ricky Williams
2000: Courtney Brown
2001: Dan Morgan
2002: Napoleon Harris
2003: Kwame Harris
2004: Ben Roethlisberger
2005: Braylon Edwards
2006: Tamba Hali
2007: Joe Thomas
2008: Rashard Mendenhall
2009: Brian Orakpo
2010: Earl Thomas
2011: Julio Jones
2012: Morris Claiborne
2013: Dee Milliner

Not too hot.

But it beats what's actually happened.

I participate in a month long Browns mock every year leading up to the draft, but those do not qualify for this thread, so looking back on this board I only found my re-do's of 2 drafts and some notes on 2012:

2011:

21 DE C.Jordan
37 DT Paea
59 WR Cobb
102 DE Acho or LB McCarthy
124 CB House
150 OL Pinkston
248 NT Neild

2012 (pre-draft posts)

1a CB Claiborne
1b QB Weeden

2013 (would have taken the trade down offer from STL)

16- CB Rhodes
46- OLB Moore
78- WR T.Williams
111- OL B.Jones
139- RB S.Taylor
175- TE Gragg
217- QB Bray
227- OLB D.Bass/OT Fragel/S Motta/CB J.Adams

2009:

We don't have the draft forum archived from that year, but I do have this post:

https://www.dawgtalkers.net/showflat.php?...true#Post547507

1st: Clay Matthews, OLB USC
2nd: Lesean McCoy, RB Pitt
2nd: Phil Loadholt, OT Oklahoma
2nd: Paul Kruger, OLB Utah

I honestly can't remember who I wanted to draft beyond that. Those were the only ones that made an impresison on me. I would have been happy with Kruger or Zach Follett as the second OLB and thought for sure we were going to take Follett when we drafted Kaluka Maiava in the 4th. Follett ended up ending his career with a neck injury right after he worked his way into Detroit's starting lineup (in a 4-3, we were in a 3-4, which he played in college at Cal.)

2010:

I actually attended this draft. I remember when the pick popped up the guys around me and said, "Who do you take here?" (Now that Berry and Suh were gone...) "I said I don't know... maybe Dez Bryant?" I was happy with the Haden pick, though... just didn't see it as much of a need.

When the second round popped up, I was upset that we took TJ Ward over Taylor Mays. lol.

When we traded up back into the second, I thought for sure we were going to take Golden Tate. I was so ticked when we took Hardesty and then when Tate went with the next pick...

Only other guy I'm sure I would have ended up taking at some point was George Selvie. Liked John Jerry a lot, too.

2011:

https://www.dawgtalkers.net/showflat.php?...true#Post811785

Summary of players I'd have drafted after trade-down:
#27 Cameron Heyward, LDE Developed into very solid 3-4 DE. I had him as 4-3 LE
#37 Brooks Reed RDE
#59 Randall Cobb WR
#70 Kenrick Ellis DT Hasn't made the impact I expected and is behind Big Snacks on that Jets' line. I was drafting him as a penetrating 4-3 DT though.
#102 James Brewer OT He's listed as the backup LT for the Giants. I liked him because I felt like he could play either side.
#124 Jaquizz Rodgers, RB role player for the Falcons who had a down year along with everyone else on the team
#137 Tyler Sash, S never made it. Backup and ST for a couple years and didn't play last year. Would have been much better off with any of the alternates. Cut after testing positive for adderall.
#168 Chris White, MLB solid backup linebacker, has started at times for Buff, now on Pats
#170 Byron Maxwell, CB well, we all saw how that turned out.
#248 Mark Herzlich, OLB never really made it back. has steroid acne.

2012:

https://www.dawgtalkers.net/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/922850/page/0/fpart/2/vc/1
3 *Justin Blackmon WR 1 Oklahoma State - pick 4 One of the best WR in the league when he isn't getting himself suspended. Doh.
7 Cordy Glenn OT 1 Georgia - pick 22 Would be a monster RT for us. Is a monster LT for Buff.
15 Lavonte David OLB 2 Nebraska - pick 37 All-pro
17 Brandon Boykin CB 3 Georgia - pick 67 Terrific slot corner for Philly. Their best cover guy.
34 Cam Johnson DE 3 Virginia - pick 100 bust in SF as a 3-4 OLB. We were still in 4-3 at this point.
35 Chris Polk RB 3 Washington - pick 118 was unaware of his injury when he was drafted
57 Chris Rainey WR 9 Florida - pick 139well, oops
56 Antonio Allen SS 3 South Carolina - pick 160 has done some good things with NYJ at SS, but is nothing special
62 Audie Cole OLB 7 North Carolina State - pick 204 Has not been as good as I thought. Might not have the speed for the game. Started at MLB when Henderson went down this year.
65 Andrew Datko OT 9 Florida State - pick 205 Didn't make the squad this year. Last cuts in training camp.
66 *Marcus Forston DT 6 Miami (Fla.) - pick 211 Was a spot starter for NE this year, got two tackles and a TFL in that game.
88 Chase Minnifield CB 10 Virginia -- pick 245 Rookie season on IR. Started 2013 on practice squad and was brought up to the team late November
103 *Edwin Baker RB 11 Michigan State -- pick 247 Brown

https://www.dawgtalkers.net/showflat.php?...rue#Post1038874

1st: CB Dee Milliner, Alabama Started slow, but as we saw really turned it on end of rookie season.
3rd: FS Phillip Thomas, Fresno St Spent rookie season on IR after preseason injur{. Ironic I was blasting front office for passing on him and drafting a guy with a torn Achilles. Then Thomas goes and injures his knee and misses his rookie season
4th: QB Tyler Bray, Tennessee Went undrafted. Kansas City Chief.
5th: RB Andre Ellington, RB Clemson Liked him a lot. See above link.. *edit -- Sorry forgot Patton was already drafted here*
7th: OLB Armonty Bryant He was the same size as Kruger coming into the draft. Was excited that we got him to come off the edge then we converted him to DE. Wrote about him on my site.
7th: OG Lamar Mady, Youngstown St UDFA Currently on Raiders as primary backup at both guard positions. Wrote about him on my site.
