I hate to say this, but either place is better.
All three are horribly run franchises, but the weather is better in both J-Ville and Oakland.

IF all three are there when we pick at 4 then I take bridgewater in a heartbeat. Then next thing I do is make the most legendary offensive line ever seem to keep him out of the hospital.

That being said I would not cry at all if they passed on the lot of them. None of them are all that impressive to me.

I say you make the team better by trading down and getting some second round picks where we could pick up some very good players and draft Jimmy Garoppollo the best QB in this draft =)

I agree. Johnny Football believes.

It sure beats the things some of our previous qbs have said, such as "I'm gonna work hard and see where things go."

This team needs a shot of attitude. Not BS cockiness, but a guy who really does believe in himself and won't quit when things get tough.

I still want Teddy because I think he is the smartest qb to come out since Rodgers, even smarter than Luck. But man, if ever a team needed a Johnny Football, it's the Cleveland Browns.

My biggest concern w/him is how often he runs up the middle. I worry about him getting hurt. But, no one can make plays like that kid and I love play makers at QB.

Nice post..pretty much mirrors my sentiments. I really don't know where this talk comes from regarding Teddy not going #1. I still think he's been the #1 pick all along and if the Texans don't take him its because JM is a Texas marketing dream. Plus he's a pretty good QB. But unfortunately I see a lot of teams wanting to move up w/Rams if Teddy is there. JM maybe not many will look to move up and we can have him slide to 4???

Dawg LB...One of his best attributes is he makes everyone better on the field. There was no inhibition of coming to Cleveland it was - Like Good Bring on the Browns I want to take them to a Super Bowl. Who the heck has ever said that??? With that confidence and Arrogance again thats what I want in a QB and it would be a great kick in the butt to all the Browns. JM what I liked best about him which in my eyes makes him a Great QB prospect not good GREAT. Is his leadership he makes everyone on the team better. Offense and Defense.

Jmho - I talked about Teddy Bridgewater 2 years ago saying I hope the Browns will get him in the future - Now I don't talk about him cause he's the #1 pick. Just like we will never have a shot at Conner Cook. The next great QB

Well, let's hope we get our QB this year and don't care about Connor Cook or any other damn qb who is coming out in the next 10 years.

Man..................can you imagine NOT having to worry about the QB position? Since the boards opened, we have never experienced that. Not once.

Is that amazing, or what?

I don't care about weather.

Jacksonvile is terrible. Maybe if Blackmon fixes his crap they'll have something.

But any QB would love to have Gordan, Cameron, Joe Thomas, and a nice Defense.

Not saying it's better, but Jax has a heckuva coach. Unlike our team, he had those guys really fighting late in the year. He is a great motivator. I think if they give him any kind of talent, he'll be a big-time winner.

yeah our timing has SUCKED regarding QB...The best thing I liked about Mangini was also the worst thing. Having us win those last 4 games in 2009 with nothing at QB 9 passes??? and we won. It also took us out of the Bradford slot.

Enough already get him. We should have had Big Ben.
Even 2012 we should have not taken Trent and took the shot at Tannehill a big reach...but a better reach than Weeden at 22 and a QB that would be here having a shot at being our Franchise QB.

I really liked Hoyer but that would be a freaking MIRACLE which is hard to believe would happen to us after all these years. lol

Lets get the QB already! If we don't take one at #4 then I don't care take 3-4 of them later on...lets get our QB! Conner Cook we haven't been picking #1 since 2000 and our team is way better than many others that have come before us.

We are at #4 I don't see us not getting it done.

JMHO

I truly almost cannot imagine that.

I'm not kidding.

We have been through so much bad QB play that it's ridiculous. You would think that we would have accidentally found one decent QB by now ....... but no.

It's both amazing and scary how badly we have done at that position.

Hell, I bought it.

I dunno. I hope we luck into a guy if that's what it takes. We just need to find that right QB to help elevate the team to contender status.

Johnny Manziel Wants Texans To Draft Him: 'It Would Be The Worst Decision They've Ever Made'

Quote:

By Aaron Wilson, National Football Post

As Johnny Manziel prepares for the upcoming NFL draft, he made it clear where he wants to be selected.

Speaking to the Houston Chronicle, the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner said he's gunning to be the first overall pick by the Houston Texans in the 2014 NFL draft.

"I want them to say absolutely, without a doubt, with 100 percent certainty, that I'm who they want," Manziel said. "I want everybody from the janitor at Reliant Stadium to the front office executive assistant all the way up to (owner) Bob McNair to say, 'This kid is 100 percent, can't miss. This is who we want being the face of our program. We want the Texas kid staying in Texas and leading the Texans.'"

Manziel electrified onlookers with his ability to throw and pass in Texas A&M's offense the past two seasons.

He also has a confidence in his ability, something that carried over to the field quite a bit. It's that confidence in his own self that leads him to believe that the Texans would be making a big mistake if they pass on him with the first pick.

If Houston did choose someone else, then hypothetically he wouldn't mind falling to Jacksonville, just so he could get revenge.

"It would be the worst decision they've ever made," Manziel told the Chronicle. "I'd be in the same division playing against them twice a year. Sorry, but you just turned that chip on my shoulder from a Frito into a Dorito."

He's got a ton of confidence and you need that in a QB for sure. Not sure I'd have called out the Texans in that fashion.

I hadn't heard a quote by him since the College season ended.. I thought, man, maybe he's maturing and maybe getting some good advice.. guess not.

LOL...........it's amazing how perception effects how we look at things.

I actually started laughing when I read his comments. I thought they were great and they made me believe in him even more. I didn't find them immature at all. Not in the slightest.

His comments reminded me of Peyton Manning's comments when he came out of Tennessee. He said something like if you take me, it will be the greatest move you ever made. If you don't, I will kick your ass every time I play you.

Wonder if Manning was immature?

2014 NFL Draft: Johnny Manziel criticism -- fact or fiction?

By Dane Brugler | NFLDraftScout.com Senior Analyst
February 14, 2014

The quarterback class for the 2014 NFL Draft lacks an Andrew Luck-type of prospect, but it's also a much deeper group than last year, especially at the top with Central Florida's Blake Bortles, Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater and Texas A&M's Johnny Manziel all likely top 10 selections. But the most polarizing quarterback -- and perhaps any prospect -- this year is undoubtedly Johnny Football.

NFL Films producer Greg Cosell turned some heads recently on a Nashville radio program when he said Manziel was "almost undraftable" based on his performances against LSU and Missouri this past season. "He was so bad in those two games, that you'd struggle to figure out, 'Can I even draft this guy?'"

[Cosell on Manziel:
http://msn.foxsports.com/southwest/story/nfl-analyst-johnny-manziel-looked-almost-undraftable-021314 ]

Former NFL general manager Charlie Casserly also offered some negative feedback of Manziel after watching him on film. "He may be a victim of his ability to make plays running the football, so he doesn't stay in the pocket. I'd want to watch tape with him, what are you seeing, why are you running when you don't have to run?"

[Casserly on Manziel:
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000...-open-receivers ]

While both opinions sound harsh for a potential top-five draft pick, I think it's clear Cosell and Casserly have done their homework on Manziel because when I study him on film, his flaws stand out almost as much as the highlight-reel plays that earned him a Heisman Trophy.

When studying NFL prospects, it's easy to praise the highlights, but sometimes we learn more about the player, especially quarterbacks, by examining the lowlights. And when doing a full inventory of Manziel's play the past two seasons, it's the negative plays in particular that stand out.

Rated as my No. 38 overall player, Manziel's college completion percentage (68.9) is a Texas A&M career record, but his inconsistent ball placement is a red flag, especially on deep and power throws. His up-and-down placement appears to stem from an inconsistent base and streaky overall passing mechanics, something that shows frequently on tape. Manziel also needs to learn how to better use his eyes and anticipate passing windows. He telegraphs too many throws and often drops his eye level too quickly when the read is covered.

Manziel's decision-making is something that can be tough to grasp because he will often force passes and tends to be overconfident, often carelessly throwing prayers into coverage. Bottom line, he got away with a lot of throws at the college level that simply won't work in the NFL. Manziel will ignore fundamentals and rely on snap throws, often with his momentum taking him backward, causing some lame ducks. A pupil of quarterback guru George Whitfield, Manziel works hard off the field to improve his mechanics and overall though process, but with the bullets flying in the heat of the moment, it's not so easy to hit the reset button.

The skill-set can be debated all day and I haven't touched on any maturity concerns, but Manziel's size and durability might be the largest concerns for me. It's in his football DNA to hold the ball as long as possible or extend with his legs to make plays, and in a league where defenders are bigger, stronger and faster, violent hits are unavoidable.

How much of a beating can his frame take? Will he hold up for a 16-game NFL schedule? No one has a crystal ball and injuries are a risk for any player who steps onto a football field, but when weighing the odds, chances are it will be an issue at some point for Manziel.

If I were to describe Johnny Football in one word, it would be "unique" -- that's not meant to be negative or positive. He's just different, a unique prospect. There isn't anyone in today's NFL like him.

To be fair, Manziel has plenty of qualities that stand out in a positive way. He has more than enough arm strength. He's extremely fleet of foot with the scrambling instincts to create like no one else. He's smart, ultra-competitive and displays the supreme confidence needed to excel at the position on the biggest of stages. But while the positives are intriguing, the negatives can't be ignored.

Does that mean Johnny Football won't be able to find sustained success? Of course not. But it's easy to see why so many evaluators have concerns about his NFL future.

Hmmmmm.....I actually thought the opposite. It's pretty clear to me that Casserly did not study Manziel. Manziel made a ton of throws from the pocket and was very successful while doing it.

Yes, IMO, Manning was immature saying that.

For me, I'd rather my QB did his talking on the field. But that's just me.

Anyway, it's not that bad really,, he's trying to market himself, get his name in the papers so to speak. Kinda keep him in the forefront of teams minds.

So from that perspective, I guess it's ok.

As for if he's a fit here,, hell, I don't know. But if he ends up here, I'll do what I do with all players, support them until I can't.

I agree that his comments were designed w/marketing and money in mind. Many qbs have done the same thing over the years, albeit not to the degree of Manziel.

These comments will have no bearing on whether we draft him or not.

from the things he was describing it sounded like he studied him very well. I don't think you could describe in detail that many concerns just watching one game or two.
as you say JM was very successful from the pocket but would he have the same success rate against an nfl secondary?
I think the flaws Charlie pointed out are legit concerns.

Of any possible reasons to draft Manziel, they one I hate the most is the PR / marketing reason. I have actually heard and read people in the media saying things like:

"Think how he would change the "national perception" of the Browns as a franchise."

"Think how many prime time games the Browns would get if Manziel was their QB."

"Think how much Browns' apparel Jimmy Haslam will sell if Manziel is their QB."

"Imagine the Sports Illustrated cover with Manziel and Gordon on it."

And so forth ...

As if any of that had anything to do with winning. I don't care about pizzazz, I care about winning. Boring wins are better than exciting losses. So if you (the Browns) think he can bring winning to Cleveland - take him. Even though I'm not in the Manziel camp, I will watch and wait and hope to have been wrong about him. Just please don't give me the PR rap about him, because I'm well past the point of caring what the rest of the country thinks of us.

I hear you, but there is no doubt that the Browns need a shot in the arm. I think players will respond favorably to the attention that Manziel will create. You could see how thrilled guys like Haden and Ward were at the Pro Bowl when they were being interviewed.

Also, boring QBs don't guarantee you wins. If so, Weeden would have won two Super Bowls by now.

Think about it. Did you notice a significant difference to how the other players acted and performed when Hoyer was in the game as opposed to Weeden being in the game?

LOL, unfortunately Weeden's play was never boring. Anyway, I was talking about off-the-field perceptions. And while I think Manziel would bring some excitement to the locker room, I could also see how "excitement" could become "distraction" pretty quickly.

I agree Manziel would probably bring some excitement to the locker room. More importantly I think he would crank up the intensity on the field. If I haven't said it enough already he's my #2 option at #4. I think the way he approaches competition would positively affect the huddle. I also don't think his rookie status would stop him from being a vocal leader on the sidelines. I think his personality lends itself to a somewhat conspicuous style of leadership. That's ok with me as long as it translates to better play and winning football games.

Johnny Manziel would "pour my heart out for the Dawg Pound and try to win a Super Bowl for Cleveland"

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Quarterback Johnny Manziel has already endeared himself to the Dawg Pound.

In an interview with the John McClain of the Houston Chronicle and Charean Williams of the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram, the Texas A&M star made it clear he wants to go No. 1 overall, but he'd be thrilled to land with the Browns at No. 4 despite their recent legacy of losing.

"If something happens and it's the Cleveland Browns, I'm going to pour my heart out for the Dawg Pound and try to win a Super Bowl for Cleveland," he said. "I don't care if they've had 20 starting quarterbacks since 1999. I'm going to be the 21st and the guy that brought them the Super Bowl."

But Manziel stressed his first priority is to go to the Texans with the No. 1 overall pick and that he'll make them pay if they let him fall to their AFC South rival Jacksonville at No. 3.

"It would be the worst decision they've ever made,'' he said. "I'd be in the same division playing against them twice a year. Sorry, but you just turned that chip on my shoulder from a Frito into a Dorito."

Working out in San Diego with quarterback guru and Northeast Ohio native George Whitfield Jr., Manziel is pulling out all the stops to make sure the Texans can't say no to him at No. 1.

"I want them to say absolutely, without a doubt, with 100 percent certainty that I'm who they want," he said. "I want everybody from the janitor at Reliant Stadium to the front office executive assistant all the way up to (owner) Bob McNair to say, 'This kid is 100 percent, can't miss. This is who we want being the face of our program. We want the Texas kid staying in Texas and leading the Texans."

"If something happens and it's the Cleveland Browns, I'm going to pour my heart out for the Dawg Pound and try to win a Super Bowl for Cleveland."

Manziel put the full-court press on Texans new coach Bill O'Brien, the former Patriots offensive coordinator, to draft him.

"If that's the situation, I'm going to go in there and be the first guy learning with Bill O'Brien," Manziel said. "The best thing about me over the past couple of years is I've had great relationships with my position coaches and with my head coach."

"They're a team I've watched every year since I was a kid," Manziel said. "I want to be the No. 1 pick. It's something I've dreamed about. With the pieces they already have in place, I could fit in. I'm a Texas kid. The state means a lot to me."

Manziel, who's undergoing rigorous drills with Whitfield Jr. that include throwing in the ocean, having beanbags thrown at him while he throws and tossing with a blindfold on to clapping receivers, hopes to show the world that he's matured from the kid who gained a reputation as a notorious party boy and who's had brushes with the NCAA.

In fact, he wants to lose the Johnny Football moniker.

"I was a kid who made some goofball decisions," he said. "That's been part of my journey. Maybe it's part of the whole Johnny Football deal that I'm trying to get away from. I'm trying to show people I've grown up, and I've learned from my experiences. I feel like you're a stupid person if you continue to make the same wrong decisions. I don't want to hear, 'Oh, anybody in his situation would have been doing the same thing.' I'm 100 percent responsible for my actions."

Manziel is eager to interview with teams at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis next week, which runs from Feb. 19-25. The Browns are expected to make him one of the 60 interviews they're permitted, and they'll use up their full allotment.

"I want (teams) to know who I really am," he said. "I'm going to try to let people know who I really am deep down in my core and that I'm not the guy who does whatever is portrayed on the Internet."

Manziel will not throw at the Combine or at Texas A&M's Pro Day March 5, but will do so in his own workout at the school March 27, his agent said.

Browns general manager Ray Farmer told cleveland.com this week that a player's off-the-field character and intangibles are as important as his ability, and that the Browns will be working hard over the next few months to determine which players have what it takes to succeed in the NFL.

"Johnny Football is the stuff you see on TMZ," Manziel said. "There's part of that folktale that goes along with it and tries to twist me into somebody I'm not all the time. I feel like now there's kind of like this frozen food package, a prewrapped, precooked package of who I am.

"Johnny Manziel is the guy who -- whether it's Houston, Jacksonville, Cleveland or Oakland, you'll have to drag off that field before I stop playing for those guys. Those are my teammates. Those are my brothers from now on. I'm going to fight until there's no time left on the clock. That's Johnny Manziel."

"Football and family will always be the most important things in my life," said Manziel. "The main thing for me is to play the game with a certain type of passion and a certain type of respect that football deserves. It's a humbling game. It can come and go at the drop of a hat."

McClain reported that Manziel passed up a $350,000 guarantee to promote a product on Radio Row at the Super Bowl this year to remain in San Diego and work out.

"It's not about the money to me," he said. "I don't even know what the monetary value of the first 10 picks in the draft is.

"I'm in a position where I can play a game I love more than anything for a living. I'm ready to be in a position that no matter where I go in this draft that I'm there to win Super Bowls," said Manziel.

Manziel (6-0, 210) even called his shot -- to one-up second-year Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

"People can call me crazy, and it's not cockiness (but), I'm going to put myself in (position) to win the Super Bowl every single year," he says. "A 5-10 guy just won the Super Bowl in his second year in the NFL. That's unreal. I want to be the first rookie to win the Super Bowl."

Of course, Manziel might still go No. 1 overall, but not to the Texans. Owner Bob McNair told ESPN recently he'd be willing to deal the pick, and the Browns have the ammunition to move up to No. 1 if they so choose. Reports have circulated that the Browns are really high on Manziel, and offensive coordinate Kyle Shanahan has said he likes him.

"I (like) what I've seen of him on (ESPN's) SportsCenter,'' Shanahan told 92.3 The Fan's Bull and Fox after his introductory press conference last week. "I haven't sat and studied him, but who wouldn't like him? He's fun to watch, he makes plays, and he's as much of a playmaker as I've seen on SportsCenter as anybody."

He said Manziel's skills will translate to the NFL.

"Of course, when you have that much success in college, when you're that big of a playmaker, you're going to be able to make some plays in the NFL too," said Shanahan."

I am just wondering if there is anyone who can match Manziel's drive to succeed?

There are always players that can match his drive, it's the talent combined with the drive that makes a player great.

Manziel has the bug. he wants to win and I think he'd give it everything he's got to win.

The Skill and ability is the question mark. Not that he doesn't have skills and abilities, He absolutely does, but do they translate to the NFL... That I do not know.

If we take him, I sure as hell hope it does...

You can never measure how bad a player wants it. Saying you want it and actually doing the work do not always coincide.

Some want it badly and do not say a thing. They just work their tails off.

Some have the drive but lack the talent.

Some are coached by their agents to say what they believe the coaches want to hear.

I agree with cfrs15 you need the drive and the talent.

The challenge is to find the guy with the talent and the drive to push it.

And I believe this is one point that's overstated. I do believe he shows more emotion and is more vocal in displaying this.

However, I doubt there are many players who do not share this sentiment. I believe they all "want to win". I also believe most every player "gives everything they've got to win".

I believe this says it all. I believe that is the same question many have about most players in the draft. I don't believe the drive and desire of most draftees is less than Manziels. He is just more vocal and displays it more than most IMO

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

A lot of guys are there for a paycheck. A lot of guys have their will to win broken when faced with adversity.

A will to win is an important factor, but it shouldn't be the lead headline. As I've said, when 'winner' is the first trait or adjective, that's a pretty big clue that you're probably talking about a long-shot prospect at the NFL-level.

That's exactly why I don't want Clowney. I think that he falls into that category.

I think that Manziel truly wants to be great, and will do whatever he can t become a great player. His whole self worth seems tied up in becoming a truly great, championship level QB.

I haven't seen too many players basically will their team to a win like he has though....

His decision making is not always the best and he still has a long way to go in his footwork and throwing a better long ball... But I would be happy to have him here in cleveland

Tim Tebow comes to mind.

I think that's an unfair comparison that gets slung around a bit too much, as far as Manziel is concerned. He's definitely better than Tebow. No one outside of those deluded by the hype thought Tebow would be anything in the NFL. Manziel is different. He has a chance to make it. Tebow never did.

But, again, if 'winner' is an adjective that comes out before any other traits, you're probably dealing with a low-probability dud.

As far as unfair comparisons go, I do think they're on par as far as college QB's who some GM will vastly overrate based on college performance.

I don't know how anyone looks at Manziel's tape and thinks 'Yes! This is absolutely The Guy!'.

I've yet to hear a coherent argument as to why the kid merits a top 5 pick (let alone first round) that doesn't involve superlatives limited to his college game.

Just having Manziel on the sidelines as a backup would give Hoyer a huge bump in his drive to succeed.

It is my sincere hope and belief that these three actual football guys (Farmer, Pettine & Shanahan) don't have Manziel rated as highly, or covet him nearly as much, as the previous FO and much of Cleveland does.

j/c: A couple of things:

--I wonder how many of the guys who keep bashing Manziel have actually taken the time to break down his games? Heck, I wonder if most of you have actually even watched more than one complete game of Manziel's?

--No one is saying that his will to win is THEE reason to draft him, but I sure as heck know this.................his will to win is a factor. Are you saying Weeden wants to win as much as Manziel?

--Too many people getting caught up in the sizes of the QBs. You love tall, big armed guys like Carr and Mettenberger. Then again, you probably loved guys like Weeden, Ponder, Gabbert, and Jamarcus Russell, too.

---Someone brought up Tebow. Yes, he did have a great will to win. The difference is that Manziel can actually pass the ball. Tebow could not.

Just thought of something funny, what if the previous GM and CEO didn't like Manziel and the new guys do? What then LOL

Grab Watkins @4, get Jimmy G or someone next and him and Hoyer go into camp as #1,#2 in no particular order.
Gordon, Watkins with Cameron in the middle give a guy alot of targets and should make a difference in whoever takes the snaps game.

Just another option...
