Maybe they were intimidated by his work ethic?

Never thought I would have heard the words "Weeden" and "good work ethic" on this forum before this thread. That might be a world record on how quickly nostalgia starts.

The guy is horrible. IMO, his agent is using the FO stir up as a scapegoat for his failure. Watch the kid play, he had the tools around him to be successful, he just couldn't do it.
I have no personal feelings toward Weeden, I thought he would be better in Norv's offense, and as the season wore on, you could see that he was the same or worse. Changing coaches and schemes affect players, but it doesn't hamper their fundamentals. That is where Weeden was lacking.
When he is gone, it will be the best for him and the Browns.

When have they said that? Weedy ought to be flushed out to Lake Erie IMO and he should get terminal 3rd degree windburn leaving (except I have yet to see him move fast). Has Pettine or Farmer or JH dissed him?
Nobody has said that.. not one person, which is why I questioned Vers comment that the new FO doesn't want him
But if I were a betting man, I'd say why would they want him?

The Vikings need a QB and Norv Turner just went there. Weeden for Adrian Peterson, straight up. I won't even ask for Cordarelle Patterson.

Enjoyable? Sorry Weeden, but any other city going to boo you out for being signed, and boo harder if you ever play a game in front of them. The league isn't for "enjoyment", it's a business and it up to you to produce. I hope Farmer is shopping him like a pimp would a three dollar hooker. Take anything, virtually anything...

I'm gonna nit-pik him a little here because I've never liked the way he talks. He sounds as dumb talking as he looks trying to make a play.
Some of Weeden's comments from your link...
“I understand the business side of everything that’s going on,” Weeden said. “It’s kind of out of my control, because I’m still under contract. The ball’s kind of in their court, depending on what they want to do and do with me going forward. I kind of have no control over it. It is what it is, and things will work out.”
Take out his use of "kind of" and he would sound like a professional. It's not "kind of" out of his control, it's completely out of his control. And the ball's not "kind of" in their [the Browns] court. The ball is solidly in their court. He doesn't "kind of" have no control over it. He has absolutely no control over it.
If you read it below with the "kind of's" taken out it sounds like an intelligent professional...

I've nit-pik'ed his choice of words before. I just think he sounds dumb everytime he speaks. His use of "kind of" is typical of his wishy-washy way of not fully accepting his responsibility. All his "kind of'" talk shows he doesn't see it as serious as his position is. All those facts are just "kind of" facts in his world.
I don't like anything about this guy. I dislike him as a player and his personality makes me wince.

I'm not trying to nit pick ddub, but what are you saying in regards to his words? Actually he speaks far more articulately than 80% or more of other NFL players. Have you seen many player interviews?
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I still think he makes a great #3. If we can get a 3rd rounder for him...kiss him goodbye.
But I know Tanney kid is like the people's choice. But I got a feeling everyones opinion would seriously change if you would see him start like 3 games. Weeden has some talent - going into year 3 with his 3rd OC and Offensive play book would not help ANYONE mentally and we all know that is where he struggles, reads, understanding the flow of the O etc.
As long as he is not a Cancer - if so Cut his butt have him lose his contract and negotiated a just above minimum to get a job if he gets one. Heck DA is about his age isn't he? That's his competition out there.

If we're down to starting Tanney three games, then we're in a lot of trouble because Hoyer and a drafted rookie have both gone down. I actually think that Tanney probably has more talent than Weeden (or Campbell) does.
My opinion of Weeden can only get worse without a miracle.

Weeden is already a cancer, hence the reason for the thread. Derek Anderson is a few months older than Weeden and already has a back-up (not 3rd string) gig as Cam Newton's guarantee.

If we're down to starting Tanney three games, then we're in a lot of trouble because Hoyer and a drafted rookie have both gone down. Yep I know that never happens around here...lol Last year essentially Campbell was our #3 - he got how many starts? 8??? When I said 3 I was being positive
I would class DA n Weeden as very similar in talent. As of yet Weeden has not gotten comfortable with the O - if he does he might not be a bad QB. For him its been bad luck cause he's having a totally different O each year of his career. The best QBs would struggle in that environment as a rookie then year 2 n 3.
If he was younger maybe worth the while to keep and have him get comfortable in the same O 2-3 seasons. But fact is he isn't. Its all about 2014. And I would feel more comfortable Weeden starting 3 games lets say we are 5-3 and are starting QB n rookie got concussions or a mild sprain in the knee??? And we need a QB to start 3 games and sustain the momentum we got brewing.
I'd rather have Weeden than Tanney. We are talking #3 here so there is no big big discussion it just a preference I don't think there is one IOTA of right or wrong...do you? lol

So, if we drafted a QB #4 and a QB #26 with Hoyer as the #3 QB, he'd still end up starting the majority of the season? Is that it?
The thing is, Campbell shouldn't have been on the roster in the first place, despite all of OverToad's proclamations that Campbell was all that and a bag of chips. Just because the frog was Mary Kay's source about Campbell being an 'elite QB' doesn't mean anything.

Sadly, I would say that Anderson was better than Weeden. That's not a praise of Anderson, but a criticism of Weeden.
If you think that Weeden could be better with an offense that he's comfy with, do you think he could be traded? And what could be gotten for him?

I wouldn't feel comfy putting Weeden in with that situation facing the team. If it came to that, you'd be better off packing it in.

Yes, we're talking the #3 QB. That's why I'd rather have Tanney. He's younger and you don't quite know what you have with him. You know what you've got with Brandon Weeden. If it came down to it, you could send Tanney to the practice squad and clear up a roster spot for another player.

Campbell all but gave up last year. His comments really concerned me.
I think we'll have a new #3. (to go along with the rookie we draft)

But he is getting paid too much to be a 3rd QB. If I had to guess both Campbell and Weeden are gone, we draft someone to be the #2 or compete for the #1, and maybe we sign someone like Grossman who is familiar with Shanahan's system and can help teach it to whoever starts. Campbell is set to make $3M. I could be wrong but that seems rather steep for someone who may not even suit up on game day. And If I read it correctly, if released, he does not cost us any dead money according to spotrac. Weeden makes more sense keeping for financial reasons, but still think both are long gone. http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/jason-campbell/If I had to guess Campbell goes first probably because of the 250,000 roster bonus due. Then the Browns may hold onto Weeden until after the draft praying to get something from him in a trade (which is unlikely). After that, he'll be gone. Just a hunch.

I agree with you, but I don't know why anyone would hate that. Grossman would be the clear third QB and would be good to have in the meeting room with two guys who have never been in the offense.

I said that because I have seen a lot of derogatory comments directed his way. It really doesn't matter, though.
What's important is that he would probably make sense considering we have Shanny here. I believe Grossman has been w/him in two locations, but I could be wrong about that.

Thanks. He probably would be relatively inexpensive. Is that correct? Also, he has really fallen in the NFL and it seems like he has accepted being a back-up in the NFL, thus he won't be a cancer like Wallace was. The most important aspect of this is what you stated earlier............familiarity w/the offense.
A part of me wants to do better than Rex, but I suppose I would be okay w/that move.

I agree. As a back-up, be it 2 or 3, the guy has experience and he doesn't totally suck to the point of not keeping or wanting in a limited capacity.
You don't want him starting 10 games, but if you needed him for a few games he at least gives you a chance.

Cleveland Browns' GM Ray Farmer on Brandon Weeden: 'In time, his agent and he will both know where we stand' INDIANAPOLIS -- Browns general manager Ray Farmer said a decision on quarterback Brandon Weeden will be coming "in time'' but that he'll let Weeden's agent release it if he so chooses. Sources told NFL Network's Michael Silver Feb. 11 that Weeden wants out of Cleveland and would like a change of scenery because of all the turmoil with the Browns. He also cited a lack of support from the front office, which didn't draft Weeden. “I’ve stated this before,'' Farmer said Thursday at the NFL Scouting Combine. "I’m going to stick with the tune of we’re only going to talk to Brandon directly and his agent (Sean Howard). If they decide to tell everyone else where they’re at and what decisions have been made, then that’s truly in their court. I won’t decide and tell anybody in the media exactly what I’m going to do or what’s happening. Those will come out in time. We’ll deal with Brandon and his agent directly and then he’ll release that information when he thinks it’s appropriate.” But does Farmer think Weeden can be a winning quarterback in the NFL? He didn't say yes. Weeden went 5-15 in his two years with the Browns, but learned two different systems and didn't have much of a supporting cast as a rookie, when he went 5-10. “Do I think he can be a winning quarterback in the NFL?'' said Farmer. "Let me say this. When we grade players, we grade them on what they’ve done, specifically when you’re in the National Football League. The college draft, from my perspective, is a projection. You put a grade on a players based on what you think he becomes in one to two years’ time. Once you’re in the National Football league, you’re graded upon your performance and what you were able to achieve at that moment. With that being said, everybody’s performance warrants a grade that is relative of that performance. We have a grade on Brandon. We know what that grade is. In time, his agent and he will both know where we stand with Brandon and he will be able to release than information.” Weeden told the Oklahoman last week that he wants to play somewhere where it will be fun for him again. The Browns are likely to draft a quarterback and also really like Brian Hoyer, who they've praised all offseason. “I want to play football,” Weeden said. “I don't care. I just want to play football and be at a place where it's enjoyable and we can compete and win games. That's really what it's all about.” As for Silver's report that he wants out, Weeden, who's under contract through 2015, said "It's one of those things that people want to read a lot into.'' He added that he'd like to stay in Cleveland, where he played with “some of the best guys … I've ever been around.” As for his future, he said, “I understand the business side of everything that's going on. It's kind of out of my control, because I'm still under contract. The ball's kind of in their court, depending on what they want to do and do with me going forward. “I kind of have no control over it. It is what it is, and things will work out.” http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2014/02/cleveland_browns_gm_ray_farmer_1.html

I think the smarter move is to draft 2 QB's and let Hoyer be the 1 or 2.
With the challenges that the Browns have had rolling the dice more often improves the chance on landing on the franchise QB ala Romo, Brady and other afterthoughts.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!
