I have the app, "Timehop" on my phone. For those of you who don't know or don't have a smart phone. Timehop is an app that sends you flashbacks from things you posted on social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare etc.
This time last year I was destroying Brandon Weeden on twitter, saying we should just cut him or trade him. That he was never going to be an NFL QB, just going off because I was so mad at how much he sucked. I kept referencing the Denver game and Josh Gordon running wide open and he missed him by 10 yards.
It was hilarious for me to see how angry I was about Weeden.
I have to admit that I thought he would have a good year last year. I thought T-Rich would have balanced the offense better seeing as he was going into 2013 healthy... I thought Norv and Chud would be a good fit for him, as they could work around the strengths that he does have (what few there are)
I think after those first two games, we knew both Weeden and Richardson were not getting it done. I think some tried to blame the OL, but good/great backs also make their guys in front of them look good. There's give/take when you talk about those situations.
Brandon Weeden cannot process the game fast enough. I think he's proof that you shouldn't necessarily fall in love with QB's built in that 6'4" frame with the big arm... I don't care how tall Manziel is, if he can process the game fast, he will be FINE.
Like I said in an earlier topic and probably 100 other times, I think QB's not being able to process the game fast enough plays into the reason why our QB's always get hurt. Guys hold on to the ball too long, they try and scramble when they aren't really good at it, or when the play isn't set up that way...
For being a smaller guy, Russell Wilson never really gets hurt. He understands the position too well. He is a quick thinker, and is smart enough to not take on a near 300 pound linebacker.
I wish there was a way that you can judge these college QB's on that, but there really isn't, hence the fail/succeed ratio. Guys obviously get overdrafted too which inflates expectations, but I really think judging a QB from college to pro is the hardest scouting/drafting job in pro sports.
I was completely and utterly baffled by the Weeden optimism last off season.
People were actually citing his preseason performance as evidence that he'd turned the corner. I remember getting into it with a few posters over it.
Oh, well. I expect the same this year. After the draft, everyone will be fawning and predicting 9-7, 10-6, and blasting any national media that says otherwise (see: La Canfora's 'hatchet job' last year )
I definatly dont want Grossman, isnt the object suppose to be to improve, bringing on Grossman dosnt show any signs of that,
Personnally I'd rather go with Hoyer, & 2 draft picks, keep Tanny becuase we need to draft Murry out of Georgia and let him heal for a year.
Schab, He's ok to bring in but the price has to be right, Cant see paying him 10mil a year and turn around and tell Hoyer...Sure you'll have a chance to start even tho your only making 2 mil compared to this other QB making 10mil....The owner will understand those figures...

Just my .02
As others have said, as long as Rex is signed as the #3 with #3 money, I don't care. Sign Jeff Garcia for the #3. If he sees time, the season is lost anyway.
I'm with you. Hoyer + 2 draft guys. Yes that's a very inexperienced bunch, but so what. I don't want to sign a vet just to have a vet on the roster. Onwards and upwards.
As for Schaub, he's still on the Texans roster and last I read, Houston wasn't going to cut him (maybe that's changed).
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”
I sat there just waiting for that awful backhanded flip against the Lions. I knew it was coming and still got upset. I remember my wife and daughter running into the room when it happened live, they thought I accidentally cut my hand off in a wood chipper (that would be the only way to describe my horrific screams of terror).
“...Iguodala to Curry, back to Iguodala, up for the layup! Oh! Blocked by James! LeBron James with the rejection!”
As long as their arms don't deteriorate too much or they get the yips (see Delhomme) I don't mind an older QB.
Grossman probably isn't good. Like..for the love of jehova don't start this guy...bad. But his problem from what I know has always been his tendency to throw deep at will. Which a roster of Gordon and Cameron .. I 'd be alright with. I would add Benjamin but I don't support little people playing professional sports. I blame him for a number of interceptions based largely on his diminutive height.
I thought Weeden had a chance at improving in the Air Coryell. I was terribly wrong and I have learned my lesson. Rule #1 for me is to look at a QBs ability to think on his feet and I demand to see some praising of their intelligence. Weeden failed for these reasons is my understanding.
For what it was worth I was spot on about Richardson sucking and caught some flack about debating him in the top 100 of the NFL players list. Remember that thread? I haven't found an appropriate place to brag but neener neener I was right
It sure would be nice to actually know what I was talking about. I'm not sure how many people actually do. When you see the guys like Gabbert, Weeden and Jamarcus Russell going to so high, you have to wonder if there is any true science to this sport.

That is a really fine post.
I appreciate your honesty and you make great points about processing and how hard it is to evaluate collegiate qbs who play in Spread offenses.

Well done, man.
Speaking only for myself, the thing that disappointed me more than anything about Weeden was that he seemed to get worse at reading coverages as his career went along. He seemed less and less sure about what he saw, and less capable of making throws. He was better in an offense that didn't fit him, and worse in one that did.
Weird.
Oh well, another bust. Move along. Nothing more to see here.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
man...weeden all ALL DAY in the pocket on those crap ass throws.
